Sanger Rainsford manages to beat General Zaroff at his own twisted game. It seems like all hope is lost, but not for Rainsford. He proves he can do whatever it takes to survive against all odds and he can push through even the toughest of situations. Topic sentence: In “The Most Dangerous Game,” by Richard Connell, Rainsford demonstrates his remarkable level of calmness while staring at the face of unpredictable life and death scenarios.
In the story, The Most Dangerous Game, Rainsford gets trapped on Ship-trap Island and has no way to get out so he needs a food source to survive. He needs to hunt for food, he can't only eat plants the whole time he is there. Before Rainsford fell off the boat, he was talking to his friend about how “the hunter had his nerve with him to tackle [the animal] with a light gun” (Connell 22). Rainsford knows when a gun is too small to hunt an animal, it seems that Rainsford clearly knows a lot about hunting, considering he has been hunting his whole life. As Rainsford has been walking around for awhile, he comes across this huge mansion, he is invited inside and as he is walking “the hall [there] were mounted heads of many animals-- lions, tigers,
Rainsford heard a shot in the far distance and was curious about where it had come from, another shot came about and it had originated from Ship-Trap Island, Rainsford thoroughly paced himself to the edge of the yacht and wondered "Who could be on that Island?," a slight breeze had taken up Rainsford's cigar, and flew in the far distance to where Rainsford could no longer see where it had gone. Rainsford then fell off the deck and into the blood warming water and another shot had gone off, Rainsford paced himself to the shot and was now on Ship-Trap Island unconscious through the night. When he had woken up, he had found animal and human tracks and decided to follow them so Rainsford did. Rainsford met a tall man named General Zaroff who was very kind, respectful and well educated and also was a hunter. General Zaroff liked hunting humans and Rainsford had contemplated that was preposterous. General Zaroff and Rainsford had very different dissents about each others
What does it take to survive when you are the hunted? In Richard Conell’s “The Most Dangerous Game”, an expert hunter does not think that his prey have feelings. This changes when the hunter, Rainsford, becomes the hunted. In order to beat the opponent he never thought he would meet, Rainsford resorts to his experience, quick-thinking, and perseverance to survive Zaroff’s dangerous game.
When Rainsford first arrives on the island, General Zaroff asks him to hunt and explains the unusual nature of his prey. Rainsford agrees to hunting with Zaroff. Rainsford really likes hunting and he knows what to do so he doesn’t need Zaroffs help. The reason why Rainsford doesn’t need Zaroffs help is because Rainsford knows more about hunting then Zaroff does, that’s probably why Zaroff is asking for Rainsfords help. Zaroff likes hunting for human, but there isn’t a lot of human on that island most of the things on the island are animals. Rainsford only agreed to help Zaroff because that’s the only way off the island and Rainsford doesn’t want to stay on the island. He wants to get off. Well another way he can get off of the island is by
Using what you know is useful to life because you had to learn to look both ways before you cross a street. Well, that's how Rainford feels in Richard Connell’s “The Most Dangerous Game.” The issue in this story is that Zaroff (hunter) likes to play a game where he kills people. Rainsford ( hunted), on the other hand, is just a guy who was sleeping and fell off board and went to an island called ship trap island. That's the place where Zaroff kills people. One important lesson readers can learn from Richard Connell’s “The Most Dangerous Game” is use what you know to survive.
He swims ashore and is greeted by General Zaroff who lives on the island. General Zaroff takes Rainsford back to his house located inland. Rainsford learns that Zaroff intentionally crashes ships on the coast of his island to take seaman captive and trains them to be hunted. Zaroff tells Rainsford he may stay on the island and live in peace, or Rainsford may take the hunting challenge he gives everyone. Rainsford being the courageous man he is, accepts the challenge Zaroff has proposed.
General Zaroff is a creepy looking man and he is one of the older type of people. Yet, General Zaroff welcomed Rainsford in and then fed him, clothed him, and gave him somewhere to sleep. Rainsford then found out that Zaroff hunts humans. Then Rainsford wanted to leave. Zaroff was not going to let that happen because he wanted to hunt Rainsford.
Zaroff thought he was going to get the best of Rainsford with everything he told him and everything he had saw. Zaroff was a pretty convincing guy, he wanted Rainsford to stay well he let him stay and start a conversation about him telling him about his self and how he ended up on his forbidden island. Rainsford had no clue of what was going on he just thought he was just a nice guy and everything.
