Being a professional individual is something that most people strive to be,
however, the word professional can be interpreted many different ways depending
on ones job, position or certification. The Webster dictionary defines
professionalism as “the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a
profession or a professional person.” Google defines professionalism as “the
practicing of an activity, especially a sport, by a professional rather than amateur
players.” In Public Relations, professionalism is a huge part in how we do business.
If an individual acts unprofessionally by, for example being late or coming
unprepared for an important client meeting, you, your professionalism and your
company then suffers credibility

When this happens it is hard for students to juggle professionalism as
well as setting aside time for school work with their personal lives, this is why it is
important to be in a program you enjoy and can dedicate a portion of your time to;
otherwise like the quote states, your quality work and motivation suffers.
In conclusion, even though professionalism has more than one definition, they all
have one thing in common and that similarity is clearly stated as someone who has
passion and commitment for what they do. There are many different ways to
improve a persons professionalism, some more obvious than others, like attending
class and handing assignments in on time. What I have learned is that even though I
don’t agree with the definition of professionalism and how it is applied to college
students, I still owe my professors, other faculty and fellow students, who do enjoy
the program they are in, the respect and professionalism that they have shown

In addition to medical knowledge and skills, medical professionals should present psychosocial and humanistic qualities such as caring, empathy, humility and compassion, as well as social responsibility and sensitivity to people's culture and beliefs.
