"Be the change you wish to see in the world" is a great quote to live by because it guides you to help others and make an impact. I use this quote to guide my life personally because I want to be able to use what I believe in, and my goals to make a change. Abortion is a very common debate in the world, and it has been this way for hundreds of years. There are two main arguments when it comes to abortion, most people are either Pro Life or Pro Choice. People that are pro life are against abortions and believe that every human life has equal worth and should have the opportunity to live. While people who are pro choice believe that women should have the choice to decide if they wanted to keep the child that they had growing inside of them or if she wants to terminate the pregnancy. I am pro life because I believe that abortions are used as a way out of something that people are in no hurry to try and prevent. I think that as a society we focus on sex as a thing that everyone does and that makes young adults think that they need to be joining what everyone is doing. This ends up creating a child that neither the mother nor the father are capable of taking care of, and the mother feels her only way out of the situation is to terminate the pregnancy in the form of an abortion. I want my impact on the world to be less of a …show more content…
I also need to learn why young adults are so susceptible to peer pressure. What in their brains makes it so easy for others to persuade them to do something, is it their hormones, their maturity, or do we just not have enough information on peer pressure and young adults to understand these
Another pro-life group is known as the Pro-life Action League. This group holds prayer vigils outside abortion facilities and provides sidewalk counseling to women and/or couples seeking abortions. The goal of this is to provide abortion alternatives, counseling, access to pregnancy resources, etc. This group is also involved in public protests to raise awareness of the injustice of abortion; they participate in marches, pickets, prayer vigils, and also raise awareness by holding large abortion pictures on busy streets to show what the end result of abortion is on an unborn child. They also hold a monthly protest at Planned Parenthood in Aurora, one of the busiest Planned Parenthood clinics, and protest pro-abortion politicians and other public figures that oppose the rights of unborn babies. Some of the other objectives of this group are to confront abortionists, abortion promoters, infiltrate pro-choice group meetings, and provide training to pro-life activists to help them organize effective programs and become successful pro-life leaders. I have discussed four very different groups, half are pro-choice and half are pro-life. While researching groups actively participating in rallying for or against abortion, there were so many with different tactics and resources available for both sides of the abortion debate.
I am pro-life. I always have and always will stand firm in my beliefs. I will especially remain firm in my belief that no innocent human being, especially unborn, should have to pay the consequences of someone else’s actions. Realizing that many others tend to disagree, I do not shove my opinions on abortion on anyone. However, being criticized for having the opinion that I do happens all the time and has only solidified my beliefs on this touchy subject of societal controversy. Growing tired of many endless conversations and arguments in my life, I interviewed a member of Planned Parenthood to get more insight on opposing opinions of mine.
In the article “Defending Choice, Yet Again: An Unapologetic Defense of Abortion Rights-- and About Time,” written by Lindsay Beyerstein in The American Prospect, abortion and the reason chose to be Pro Choice are addressed. Many people throughout life can overcome the question, is abortion right? The only problem is no one can never give the reason for yes or no. The information provided in this article shows of ways that people should look back and reevaluate their decision on thinking that abortion is wrong. It has been detected that in many places recently, “Abortion access has decreased dramatically in Texas since the state’s restrictive anti-choice law went into effect in 2013” (Beyerstein). Also it is described how, “...Texas
It is no secret by this point that I am of course a pro-life person. I take this stance because of many reasons. I was born and raised Catholic and as a Catholic, we oppose all forms of abortion procedures whose direct purpose is to destroy an embryo or fetus, since it holds that human life must be protected and respected from the moment of conception. There are two types of Catholics, practicing and non-practicing, in which the practicing Catholics are obviously pro-life and
Out of all modern social controversies, perhaps the most heated controversy is that of abortion. In today’s society you are either a Pro-life or a Pro-choice, there is not a middle ground. Pro-life are individuals who believe abortion is immoral and should be stop for the wellbeing of women and unborn babies. In contrast, the Pro-choice individuals do not necessarily promote abortion, they just believe women should be the ones to make decisions over their bodies and health. Although the two main sides of the abortion debate have concerns for human life, pro-life activists worries more about the fetus and morals, a clear difference from the pro-choice that worries more for the women and their rights. Based on the points I explored, the pro-choice arguments are stronger than pro-life arguments. Most of both groups arguments comes from peer-reviewed researches from well-known sources to support each individual concept. Effects on women,socio-politics, and fetus are some of the main point of conflicts between the pro-life and pro-choice advocates.
Is abortion right? Should it be legal? The arguments and laws for abortion have been going on since the early eighteen hundreds. Some people believe that the woman having the baby should be able to choose to have an abortion or not. More arguments arose about when a fetus was considered a baby and, if legal, when is abortion appropriate. Another major argument regarding abortion is whether or not a fetus can feel pain. Others think that they should have the baby and either keep it or give it up for adoption. Arguments continued and caused people to split into two different groups: Pro-Life and Pro-Choice. The Pro-Choice group believes women should be able to choose to have an abortion and it should be legal. Pro-Life is the complete
Some things are hard to achieve and sometimes they are somewhat wrong, which takes time to get to the main point. In past decades there have been many controversial issues on equal rights and freedoms etc. Abortion rights are one of the issue that has been around since 1800’s. It came to public’s eye after many deaths among women occurred caused by complication and illegal abortion. Decline in birth rates in late 1800’s was also the reason to ban abortion. By the end of 19th century in 1967 abortion was illegal in all U.S. States. It was considered a crime. Still many people were and are against abortion because thinking that abortion is taking away life of baby and is equal to committing murder. Some people are with abortion because
Babies are born and killed every day. Not babies, but unborn fetuses. It’s a sensitive topic for some, more than others. But for me I feel the topic of abortion should be discussed and ideas should be shared with one another. Abortion is a permanent decision to have an unborn fetus, (between 12 and 20 weeks), removed from a woman's womb. There are more pro-life believers than pro-choice. I am one of those few pro-choice believers that laugh at the “anti-abortion” picketers outside Planned Parenthood. Although there are some instances where people think abortion is not moral, it is completely up to the woman and possibly her partner as well.
This source will be helpful to me in forming my research paper for several reasons. Primarily, it adds the opinion of someone who is clearly pro-life which helps me in disproving pro-life beliefs. By knowing why people are pro-life it makes advocating against them easier because I know why they believe what they believe. It also has very useful information such as the statistic from The Journal of American Medical Association about fetuses and the pain they cannot feel. One thing the article by Dutton does that many other sources about abortion do not is talk about the social aspect and interactions between people that are pro-life and pro-choice. She makes it evident right off the bat that the people who are pro-life are the ones who do the
I disagree completely with the idea of abortion being illegal. I also disagree with the government having the right to decide for any woman what she can or cannot do with her body. I am pro-choice. By pro-choice this means that I believe that a woman can and should be able to safely obtain an abortion without being harrassed by pro-life picketers or potentially injured by unregulated procedures or unqualified doctors. Licensed clinics should be set up throughout all 50 states and should be treated by state medical inspectors the way any other surgical establishment is monitored.
In my opinion I think that assisted reproduction is "pro-life" because the people who use the assistance for reproduction obviously really want a family and want to have a child and most of the time these people who use the assisted reproduction cannot conceive on their own. These reproduction assistance methods are very costly and it's some peoples last hope for reproducing. I think assisted reproduction is a great thing because some peoples life dreams are to have their own families and own children and sometimes their bodies just wont cooperate so they need these assistance. Some people may argue that reproduction assistance is not "pro-life" because the embryos could be lost, but there is never a 100 percent chance when conceiving normally
The New York Times. Why I am Pro-Life. October 27 2012. To name something is to own it; therefore to name an issue means you can own it. Calling someone “right wing” simply because they are pro-lie is rather far from the truth as is calling someone “left wing” because they support pro-choice. Truth is you can be one without the other as Thomas L. Friedman explains as he talks about how pro-life is more to him than “To abort or not to abort.” It’s also on having a higher quality of life for people in America and the world over. While it should be a woman’s right to control her body and to prevent the birth of a child of rape or incest or if the child endangers the mother’s life there is still no reason to use it as a form of birth control when
One of the toughest issues to debate in our world today is abortion. Abortion is the induced termination of pregnancy before the fetus can survive. Nowadays, abortion affects all people, not just the mother and the baby. There are moral, ethical, health-related, political, and religious aspects that affect how people feel towards abortion. By looking at religion and its views, one can see just how hard it would be to argue in the pro-choice position of this debate.
Some extremely memorable moments in my life occurred in Washington D.C., when a huge sense of awe struck me, on the Jesuit Pro-life Club’s trip for the 2017 March for Life. It started off rather simply: the Jesuit High School Pro-life Club was traveling to the capital for the annual protest of abortion in the United States. After two flights by plane and a few hours napping, we finally arrived in D.C.! The club collectively boarded the Metro, which would be our main mode of transport during our stay. We were off to our first Mass of the trip! The religious reasons for our pilgrimage would neither be neglected nor delayed, so we immediately began our prayers at various chapels and churches in the "American Rome." The churches we visited filled
In society today, people tend to make decisions based on the actions and choices of others. Peer pressure is a very real issue that affects most of the teenagers of the world today. it is a dangerous form of persuasion. It causes teenagers to easily succumb to unethical activities under the influence and pressure of their friends. people see the effects of
