Every day, law enforcement officers encounter danger while carrying out their duties. The foremost duty of law enforcement officers are to serve and protect citizens. Most law enforcement agencies do this successfully. However, many people view law enforcement officers as the enemy. People need to be better informed about law enforcement and why officers take specific actions in certain circumstances. In our society, police are in a very dangerous position when it comes to the amount of force they can use when dealing with an individual. Officers use discretion when deciding the best course of action for the situation, whether it be physical force, persuasion, or coercion. They must take the correct course of action, because if they are too lenient or to forceful, even when dealing with petty things, they can be reprimanded by superiors and the public. Should police use force? Which circumstances warrant use force and what are the limits of force they can use? These questions are often asked when police are compelled to use force.
Police Academy and policing are some of the most controversial things in today 's world. This particularly pertains to our society, in which it seems that there is a different incident involving the police every week. It is extremely controversial, the media uses its power of manipulation to “expose” the police often abusing their power. This is leading to a division of our nation. There is a large clash of who 's to blame in this situation, we can even see this in class based on the various opinions of my fellow students. Some of my classmates and many others blame things like police academy, methods of policing, and the cultural separation between police and the community. I interviewed somebody who lived through both. He was in the police force for 21 years and continued on to teach and direct police academy for 25 years.
It is no surprise that recently there has been controversy on the issue of police force. So many people have been taken from their families over something that could have been prevented without taking it as far as killing. From Michael Brown to Walter Scott it just doesn’t stop. Thankfully, for some of these incidents a witness has caught Officers using excessive force. But others, you just get to hear the Officers side of the story since the other person isn’t alive to tell their side to what happened. Which is definitely not enough. There needs to be a legitimate system where we can see everything that happens start to finish when excessive force is the case. Organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) are demanding for
Police encounter different situations in their daily activities. The diverse nature of the circumstances implies that the members of the police also have to adopt different strategies of handling them. In some circumstances, the police have to use force as a way of addressing the situations. Unfortunately, when the police apply their own discretion in the use of force, the outcomes of this approach may end in fatalities or serious injuries. In recent times, diverse opinions have emerged in relation to the use of discretionary force. In some quarters, the use of discretionary force has been hailed as beneficial while in other case such as the 2008 Shooting of Tyler Cassidy, concerns have been applied concerning the appropriateness of the strategy. Against this backdrop, this essay examines whether the police use of force is a necessary component of the job and describes the benefits and limitations connected to the discretionary use of force by the police.
I am Martin Griffin, I was born in County General hospital San Andreas Twenty Five years ago. I grew up in a American-Italian Family Known as the Splitzers, We had a hard life living Side by side with the black gangs of San Andreas in ganton, There was 8 of us in one house. So up until the age of 18 all I ever knew was the gang life style, Truck Raids Robberies Racing That kind of thing. I never thought about the cop lifestyle at all Until a tragic event happened, When a gang attacked the gang living next door to us. It was Arson the family home I grew up in was totally destroyed luckily we all got out alive. One thing that upset me was the fact that the gang was never caught due to the fact that it took the LSPD seventeen minutes to get to the scene. That made me pursue The career of a Cop So I decided to search for any available cadet apprenticeship.
I personally support United States law enforcement agencies and believe that they make our country a better place. Currently a lot of controversy surrounds America's police force with cases of excessive force coming to light through social media. In these cases, I think both sides are to blame for the violence that ensues. In defense of police officers, they were attempting to apprehend a suspect that was in the process of breaking the law. However, this does not exempt them of their use excessive force or the cases where the suspect is killed. A change that can be made to help calm the situation is harsher punishment for officers caught using excessive force. While these changes are an important step in preventing police brutality, it
On Thursday, January 5, 2017, I, Officer McDaniel #147, of Mansfield ISD Police Department, located at 1522 N Walnut Creek Dr, Mansfield, TX, was contacted by dispatch for a public service call, to a parent, in reference to an incident that occurred on November 28, 2016, at James Coble Middle School, located at 1200 Ballweg, Arlington, TX.
Police brutality occurs daily across America. Police brutality can come in various forms, counting lethal and nonlethal force. Comprehending the exact commonness of police brutality is complex, because of the inconsistency in describing police brutality. The trouble in differentiating among justified and unjustified force. Police interactions often can be misconstrued, or sometimes turned around against an officer.
On 11/21/2016, I, William Van Scoter, was working as a police officer for the Wichita State University Police Department, in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. I had the North Wichita Police Department (WPD) on my car radio and they were looking for a black male wearing all black clothes with red shoes. The black male was wanted for a domestic violence incident. I heard over the radio that WPD requested Officer Gable #152 to help locate the individual.
I completely agree with you Lillie on how all the people that listened to the phony police officer were being obedient.
What is the definition of COP? “Citizen on Patrol” Do cops really understand the definition of COP? The quote: “to protect and to serve” became the official motto of the LAPD police academy in 1963; the motto was printed on every police vehicle in Los Angeles. Fast forward to March 3, 1991, the brutal beating of Rodney King by white LAPD officers. The beating was captured on video tape in all of its horror, and the cops were still acquitted! Who are the cops protecting? Who are the cops serving? It clearly isn’t the community the police are serving or protecting. Instead, of saving lives, they are taking lives. Perhaps, you would think citizens would need protection from the car jackers, armed robbers and gang members. This scenario has happened to several acquaintances. If you drive an expensive luxury car in Los Angeles, like a Maserati, Bentley or Range Rover; nine times out of ten you will be stopped by the police and asked: is this your car? I need to see your registration, license and insurance. The cops automatically assume the car is stolen, or you acquired the vehicle thru some nefarious or illegal actions. A Black person can’t possibly afford or deserve a car like this. Unfortunately, the citizens of the communities need protection from their so called police. Who is going to protect us from the rogue, racist and scary cop? Certainly, not the cop car dash cam, video recorder or camera phone! Indeed, cops have a dangerous job; they risk their lives every day
The town in which I was born and raised, is a small, close-knit community. In the quiet beach town, the style of law enforcement is most definitely watchman style. The primary objective of law enforcement officers who are following the watchman style of policing is to maintain order. I believe that my town followed this style based on the encounters I experienced with officers, as well as the encounters of others. Since the town is so small, it is rare that officers make an arrest or take strict action at all. While in school, it was not uncommon for the local officers to sit with the high school athletes and have dinner after a game at a local restaurant. As an adult, especially now that I’m learning about law enforcement, I realize that the
Militarized police are people that perform police duties but have access to use military equipment as well as incorporated the rule and regulations they follow in the military. According to goarmy.com military and police have the same kind of duties like patrol, interview witnesses, victims and suspects in investigations, Crime scene security and processing, and arrest and charge criminal suspects. Their train on the other hand is very different. Military police go through basic warrior skills and use of firearms military/civil laws, jurisdiction Investigating, collecting evidence traffic, crowd control arrest and restraint of suspects. The only things that I see are different and could be helpful in some situations is the training they receive
“We found your son wandering around in the woods like he was lost.” The police officer replied.
When we think of the police, we normally think of the brave men and women out on the street, enforcing the law, catching criminals, helping out the public in cases of emergency and making us feel safe in general. Most of the Police in most of the world is like that which is a good thing, However in the United States of America the police here are a bit more ruthless. Most of the police officers are very nice people and they really do want to help out in their community, but unfortunately there are some bad and corrupt cops in the system that will break the law and do some bad things. In the Modern world most bad cops are seen as racist and trigger happy. They don’t kill for fun of course but whenever they feel threatened they are trained to feel as though they need to take down their target since they are taught to make sure they don’t do something that will end up killing them. While nobody is at fault with these cases it is unfortunate that it does happen. Thankfully most of those cops are not as bad as the actual corrupted ones where they do business with drug lords and take their money just so that the criminals don’t get ratted out and so that they can continue their business. While there are some organizations that are corrupted the people in America do have power and a decent morality to do something about it. There are many organizations and cases that happened in the supreme court that has changed how the police behave and act when they are out on the
