What is wellness? “Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy life. Wellness is also a process for change and growth” (Health Topic – What is wellness?). To have acceptable wellness you should have an equal amount of social, emotional/mental, and physical health. I, myself, believe that I have an okay wellness, I mean not like full wellness but just enough to pass I'll say. But how am I living in wellness?
There are different ways of living with wellness. My social health is getting better. I'm doing my best to be social with people. I occasionally like talking to people, but it's better than not talking at all. My mental/emotional health I would say is good. Consistently I

I mostly have acquaintances, people who I would talk to but won't tell them personal stuff. Anyways my physical health isn't the best. I keep having of back pains, and sometimes chest pains that hurt like crazy. That is why my resolution is to exercise. I'm starting in Spring where I can do much more stuff like play sports and go walking. It's also a great thing that I'm in gym, if I wasn't I wouldn't know about all the problems that could happen to me if I kept being lazy. I judge my behaviors have something to do with my problems.
It is important to think about your behaviors because you need think about how it will affect you and the other person. If you call someone ugly and say just kidding you don't know how that person will feel about you saying that. The person might be laughing now, but later they will look back at that comment and start thinking about if they are ugly or not. There are people who can take jokes, there are people who can't. Just put together who is and isn't. There are times in class when you are learning something, and there is that one person who wants to talk in class when you're learning. They aren't thinking about how they are making others feel, just themselves. When you say something they start getting defensive for no reason. That's why you don't say something. You can't do anything but tell the teacher, or just learn from them. Don't be the person who will hurt others education. They aren't hurting anyone
Healthy People 2020 discusses a number of special population’s that have barriers to care including; race, age sex, sexual identity, age, disability, socioeconomic, and location; this post will discuss race (ethnic) group. There are a number of races mentioned in healthy people 2020, such as, Asian, American Indian, Alaskan, Latino and African American (Healthy People 2020, n.d.). Access to health care in an ethnic group is multifaceted from the lack of trust, lack of health care education, discrimination and cost of care including health insurance. According to Howard, Peace, & Howard (2014), African Americans have a greater risk of three preventable diseases, hypertension, renal failure and bacterial infections stating; “no other disease
Quality of life is how satisfied we are with our lives and whether there are parts of our health that affect this or inhibit this. For example if there was a lack of money in a family due to little financial support then their quality of life would not be good. This is because they would not be able to afford the necessities of life and other recreational activities.
The well-being of a person includes the 5 aspects of health: mental, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual. There are different types of physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual health.
By taking the wellness inventory I have discovered things about myself, some were new and others I have known for quite some time. For example, I knew that my intellectual wellness would be high because I love to learn about different things and I consistently ask questions about things I am not familiar with. In addition, I knew that my social wellness would be high as well because I enjoy talking to people who come from backgrounds both similar and different than my own. I also have a very broad network of people who are close to me because I am a compassionate person who always tries to go out of my way to communicate with others.
I consider health as a state of wellness. With this, I bear in mind that each person’s idea of wellness may differ from the next. For example, a diabetic may consider his diabetes being under control and healthy when his
Health is a condition of the body with choices made from life challenges. My highest score was personal safety and avoiding chemical dependency, falling in the category intellectual wellness. Intellectual wellness is characterized by the ability to think logically and solve problems in order to meet challenges successfully. I think it was my highest score because I am well aware of knowing safety rules and procedures. For example, I would wear a seat belt before driving or assure others to do the same. However, my lowest score was nutrition because I lack to eat the right servings of fruits and vegetables every day. I tend to not eat healthy because of poor decisions and being a picky eater. I’m more likely to eat foods that are high saturated
Wellness is defined as an unified nature encompassing physical, psychological/emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual dimensions (BC Atlas of Wellness, s.a.:10). The abovementioned dimensions are discussed below.
As an 18 year old, single, child free, debit free, young adult, I have yet to scratch the surface of my life. There are many things that I have yet to experience, and many other things I never want to experience. When given the challenge of creating a “Wellness Plan” my mind went blank, until I discovered the quote “The most important person to be honest with is you.” In this paper you will find me; the person I am, and strive to be each day.
My personal definition of wellness is, being healthy and contributing safely to our society. My health definition would be, working hard to keep oneself fit by working out and eating healthy. Along with taking supplements and vitamins. The greatest factors that influence you would have to be, family, friends and media. I picked those three because we hear them the most and we listen to our family and friends because we trust them. They would try to hurt us and always want the best for yourself. Even with our family and friends wanting the best, sometimes they can be wrong. Media influences us by hearing the same things many times a day. So we tend to think that is right or okay in our society. What are we always on, social media, along with
What I understand, being healthy or well does not define how many times an individual is being sick, but how an individual understand the components of being healthy and well. In addition, an individual must understand the factors of each health dimension, which are Physical health, a continuous process that can be affected by our choices, behavior and perspective in our everyday life. Psychological health, depends on how we look at life; how we manage and accept stress; how an individual have control of his/her emotions or feelings towards unexpected situation. Spiritual health is how individual appreciate and see things in a positive or wider view and extend their knowledge to others. Social health is how individual build their
Before I took the wellness index, I had no idea that holistic health is based on many different aspects. For example, I had no idea that finding meaning, or transcending played a big role in a person 's holistic health. In addition, the results for some aspects also shocked me, and I need to work more on them. The first one I need to work on would be wellness and communication. In both my personal, and professional life I need to work on ways to communicate better so that everyone I work with is on the same page. Also, if I can communicate better than I can get my needs meant more. Furthermore, at work I have noticed that when there is a crisis going on, I tend to sometimes stand around assessing before I make a decision to offer my help. I intend to in the future act more quickly, and offer my help so that the team feels like I am being more involved. In (Travis, Ryan 2004, Section 9) it states "I can communicate my limitations to others when appropriate". I find that I have a difficult time with that sometimes. For example, at work I would always say yes to come work if someone called out, or agree to work a lot of overtime, and instead of communicating that I have limits I would always say yes. At times this added a lot of stress to me. In addition, (Travis, Ryan 2004) asks the question, "I am not responsible to keep other people happy". This statement along with the one of setting limits remain the two most difficult things for me in terms of communication wellness.
By living in such a technically advanced society, I feel there are several things that account towards the decisions we make every day in regards to our health. To further describe the claim that we live in a technically advanced society, we are surrounded by images that are often directed towards health and image. Covers of magazines, famous people, and athletes are all images that most people strive to become or look like. Personally, growing up I always aspired to become a professional hockey player. Admiring my favorite hockey players in the NHL, I always perceived them to being the healthiest people on the planet. In many respects, I was not that far off. Professional athletes, pampered by the best medical care and nutritional advice,
One dimension of wellness that I struggle with is intellectual wellness. This is something that I have struggles with and have attempted to improve, but I really only focused on the school portion on intellectual wellness. I did not want to go to college, but my parents told me I was going to college either way. With attending college though, you hold intellectual discussions during classes which is another aspect that helps increase your intellectual wellness. They were looking out for my intellectual wellness, but that is only just one part of intellectual wellness.
There is a heightened focus on maintaining good health and the many benefits that come as a result. Increasingly, more companies are opting to implement wellness programs to help support and facilitate their employees in achieving better health habits. Types of programs offered include smoking cessation, weight and stress management, and access to on-site resources like health fairs, seminars, and counseling with registered dietitians. Results of healthy employees also help the employer by reducing healthcare costs, improving work productivity, and boosting office morale (Mujtaba & Cavico, 2013). Different techniques can be used in wellness programs: carrots and sticks. While one offers positive reinforcement through incentives (carrots),
”Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." (WHO, 1948) Wellness
