On 08/04/16 at 8:42pm, I was dispatched to 2087 S. Hamilton Rd, on a injury dangerous or vicious dog/injured dog, serious injury, involving a Columbus Police Officer (CPD) being bit by a dog and shooting dog. I arrived at the location. I was advised my CPD personnel that the CPD Officer that was bite was transported to the hospital and that the dog was still breathing. I was escorted to the area where the dog was. The dog was on the ground, next to the dog was dog owner Jackie Fate. I was unable to see any visible injuries to the dog, the dog had shallow breathing. I asked Ms. Fate to wrap the leash around the dog’s mouth to prevent the dog from biting her or me while I placed the dog on the stretcher. The dog stood up on its front two legs, I asked Ms. Fate if she thinks she can walk the dog to my van. Ms. Fate stated she could try. I went to my van and proceeded to make room for the dog. Ms. Fate slowly walked the dog to the back of my van. Ms. Fate got the dog into my van and into a cage. I asked Ms. Fate if she had I.D, Ms. Fate stated she did and provided me with her ID. I asked Ms. Fate what happened, she stated that she and her boyfriend were arguing and he ended up taking the car. CPD Officers arrived on scene, as one of the CPD Officers was approaching Ms. Fate her dog charged at the CPD Officer, the CPD Officer than shot the dog. Ms. Fate stated that she had the dog tie up to a crate, I asked her again what it was tie up to, and Ms. Fate stated again it was tie up to a crate. The dog name diesel was current on dog license and vaccinations. I issued Ms. Fate a violation for failure to control a dangerous dog. I talk to CPD Officers on the scene, I was provided with the name of Tim Rines as my victim badge # 2433. One CPD Officer stated the injured appeared to be to CPD Officer Rines right arm.
