The autobiography graphic novel Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi’s, uses past historical events that happened in her life. The graphic novel uses black and white animated like characters to display the story to the reader on an emotional level. Satrapi strays from the stereotype comic by making the imageries in the book catch the reader on a more thoughtful and sensitive level. In one part of the story the author starts to try and describes people who have passed away during the war. She associates the statement “The key to paradise was for poor people. Thousands of young kids, promised a better life, exploded on the minefields with their keys around their necks” (102) with the image of numerous soldiers getting blown up from the mines with keys
