The attack on Pearl Harbor was a tragic event which occurred on December 7, 1941. As some call it, this was the awakening of the sleeping giant. World War 2 had already started and the US had attempted to stay neutral but as Japan dropped bombs over the island of Oahu on the US naval base the US was sent straight into war. Japan was upset and angry and the US for the things they have been doing lately so they finally got tired of it and they dropped bombs on Pearl Harbor. To begin with, one reason why Japan dropped bombs on Pearl Harbor was because the US froze all Japanese bank accounts and assets as stated in Document C. This happened in July 1941. When the US does this it means that Japan cannot withdrawal or deposit their money. This also keeps them from making transactions. Japan can no longer buy war supplies, oil, or other things that they need. This would obviously make Japan angry as it limits them as a country if they can't buy things or actually use their money. …show more content…
In Document B the map shows that Japan had little to no oil fields. So Japan must have been getting oil from somewhere else because they could not have possibly made the amount of oil that they needed on their own. In Document D the chart says that about 80% of Japan's Petroleum was from shipments coming in from the US. They needed the US to supply their oil or they would have virtually none. Lastly, in Document E Hideki Tojo said at the Imperial Conference that if the US does not ship them oil they will run out within 2 years and not have any for military uses and the military ships will not be able to run. Japan was angry at the US for not sending in the shipments of oil to help supply their

Numerous U.S. armed forces personnel were misjudged, which allowed the Japanese to carry out this terrible attack. Not only did the Japanese hit the U.S. where they knew it would hurt the most, but it crippled the United States’ entire Pacific Fleet.
Richard Collier wrote The Road to Pearl Harbor: 1941 to talk about how the actions of individuals and governments brought the United States into World War II, as a result of the Pearl Harbor massacre caused by the Japanese.

The bombing had been a surprise attack, and the U.S. didn’t expect it because it was such a long way to the U.S. (4000 miles away) and they were sure that they would attack near Southeast Europe. But Japan had several major objectives when they attacked Pearl Harbor.

The American position on World War II changed within a matter of hours because they were not ready for the attack. There were many
They believed that it was justified because Japan didn’t enjoy the extreme exclusion created by America and Japan felt it as a personal insult to their country. Japan wanted to prove to America that it was a bad choice to ban oil shipments, since Japan didn’t have many places to mine oil and America was their main supplier. Japanese also thought that it would be a good idea since their companies and officials were aggravated and irritated when their main source of oil, steel, and iron banned trade with

Pearl Harbor Death, destruction, and mercilessness do little justice in describing the horrible events that took place on December 7th, 1941. Japan is a country that needs to trade to get their resources because their country doesn’t have its own resources. In 1940 Japan decided to ally themselves with the Axis powers, such as Germany. The U.S. saw this as the Japanese getting too strong so they chose to place an embargo on the country and cut them off from valuable resources such as oil. Japan needed these resources in order to last for longer than a few months in the war. The only way to obtain more resources was to attack the South-East Asian resources. The only thing holding the Japanese back was fear that the U.S. Pacific Fleet would intervene on their attack. The Japanese’ Admiral Yamamoto was planning and simulating air attacks on the Pacific Fleet many months before they actually decided they’d actually do it. They hoped that diplomatic talks would solve the problem but they didn’t fall through so the attack was there to fall back on. General Tojo Hideki secretly set November 29th as the date that the Japanese would accept a settlement without going to war. The Japanese planned to attack Burma, Malaya, the East Indies, and the Philippines, in addition to establishing a defensive perimeter in the central and
The attack on pearl harbor was a surprise, but japan and the united states have been waiting for the war to happen for years. The united states was unhappy with japanese because of their least unexpected attack, so the japanese government thought that the only way to solve their problems was to expand into its neighbors territory and
There are several reasons why Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, however, the goal and the reason of the attack are announced to be mismatched. Previously, before striking Hawaii, Japan already had been attacking few countries in Asia and even colonizing those countries. It was a great success for Japan. As they succeeded in colonizing, they needed an increased need for steel, oil, minerals, etc, which lead them to seek for natural resources. Japan was desperate for natural resources due to their goals, which was expanding their lands in Asia and the Pacific. However, the most important reason that cause Japanese to attack Hawaii was the ban that was settled with President Roosevelt on the trade of oil, steel, and iron. This ban of resources gave negative effects to the Japanese economy and unfortunately, it gave a set back to the military as well. The Japanese were on their process of being the strongest navy and having the power. But the Americans blocked their passage, which made the Japanese want to fight over their obstacle- the Americans. Japan had already taken over most lands in Asia, and they were eager to take over the entire Asia but the Americans didn’t allow them
A few years before the attack on Pearl Harbor, Japan was running low on resources. The United States was Japan's main oil producer. Japan was naturally a resource poor country, however Japan found plenty of resources on the more Western countries, so they invaded. The United States tried to tell Japan to stop invading the other countries, but they didn't listen. Japan soon made a plan to stop the United States from interfering with their plans and they created to plan to bomb Pearl Harbor on 1940.
The surprise bombing of Pearl Harbor was the entire reason for the United States' entrance into World War II. Many elements play into this event. For instance, the Japanese chose this site for several reasons. In addition, there are various theories that Franklin Delano Roosevelt was made aware of this attack, yet allowed it to occur. Known as "The Day of Infamy ", the bombing is taught in our history classes for an infinity of years to come. How did we react at the time? What did Washington do to prevent this? Why Pearl Harbor anyway? The bombing of Pearl Harbor was a desperate FDR's backdoor into the Second World War.
so that all could be watched by a few men. This sort of thinking was
