Americas history is what defines us and who we are as a country. We were built on hard work, sacrifice, wanting to be free and independent to be who we want to. Now a-days, we seem to have fallen away from this. Everything is given to us so easily on our computer and through technology that we have no need to work hard anymore. This is the downfall in humanity because as we keep going, life will continue to get easier and we won’t want to do anything. History is our hope so that we can learn from what we did in our past and how things were done then.For starters, we can see what mistakes we did and make sure we don’t do them again. In the first chapter of “How Congress Works”, Lee H. Hamilton discusses the idea of the American people being sovereign, or the supreme power. In our representative democracy, “neither Congress nor the president is supreme, because the ultimate authority lies with the people” (Hamilton 4). In “Why Does Sovereignty Matter to America”, Steven Groves shares the same sentiment as Hamilton saying, "Sovereignty is a simple idea: the United States is an independent nation, governed by the American people, that controls its own affairs” (Groves). When veterans are respected they know that everyone are about them. I also think of them being able to have more respect than we do because they risked their lives just for us. Plus, veterans should have equal rights. But most importantly they should be able to go somewhere and have no one look down on them. In my mind veterans should be respected no matter what.

Some people believe that history is not important, others strongly disagree, their point is not going to go unnoticed though. Some people want to live life one day at a time and not have to worry about how their actions could affect themselves or their future. Living life one day at a time sounds refreshing but it is unrealistic. We would still be cavemen if we didn't use our knowledge to help us advance. Ignorance is not the answer especially if we hope to continue our advancement’s in the world.

Let us start from the beginning of the United States of America, the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson was the brave man who wrote this divorce letter to the Great Britain. He thought that his fellow Americans were not treated fairly, and so he and the founding fathers decided that it was time to part ways with England. Even though Jefferson just wrote it he still contributed, with a set goal of having a better future. And with only his pen and paper, he helped his fellow Americans have hope and the will to fight for the future of America.

Our country’s history has definitely had its ups and downs, but we have grown as a nation and as a people through the many tragedies and victories alike. However, we must keep in mind that experiences of the past do not stop affecting us and in no way become useless to us just because they’re in the past. If we decide to use them properly, they are a crucial tool in the cultivation of our future. By knowing our history and studying our predecessors’ actions and reasoning, we will be better informed when deciding what actions to take or not to take in the present. Better informed decisions lead to actions with better outcomes and, eventually, a better future.

We can learn from the past what we are not supposed to do. By learning history, we can know what will happen before make a decision and avoid same mistake. To better understand American culture, it is important to listen to voices different than our own because it helps us learned from our past mistake.

If we ignore the past we will miss out on so much in the future, we won’t understand and then we get caught up on trying to understand that you miss out on the present. You have to pay attention to the past and learn to understand because, when you do you will not only learn to understand you will learn that the world is a beautiful and valuable place. There are valuable people who would risk their lives for us and we need to respect that.

Learning from our past is the best way to grow our community today. Learning about history is imperative in that it can prevent us from making the same mistakes. George Santayana said ¨Those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it.¨ Therefore, we can use history as a sort of guidebook to avoid reiterating previous mistakes, and even to provide solutions to present problems. Those who do not learn about history won’t be able to improve the future.

History influences our way of thinking, communicating, and interacting with one another. We prefer to define ourselves in terms of where we are going, rather than where we came from. Learning history is indispensable to the modern development of education and for the distant long-term lives of many minors. Furthermore, history is important to the future and is primarily classified into three fields; political, social, and economic.

Our history did not begin with two wooden ships crossing the ocean blue in 1492 in look for a trade route for spices, rather it born from a simple paperback book published in 1776 that spread a new idea, this book was called Common Sense. In it a new idea was born an idea of a nation that is not taxed, and not ruled over by a land 4,404 miles away. One thing is they do not care anymore and they are not interested to know. They already lack the interest to know more about their country’s history because they fail to understand what the real essence of learning about history is. Probably because their teachers during their elementary and high school days just taught them about memorizing the facts that just includes all of the dates of historical events and names of heroes and leaders. That is why, they do not get any value from this kind of learning. Therefore, in order to let others appreciate about the history of their country, it should first be taught to them in a right way. It should be inculcated from the very start that what you learn from history is what you will have to learn later about the society and the people around you. People should first understand that history is not just all about facts. It is about why life happened and why we share the same value and tradition. These insights should let them realized that if without history, we won’t have a basis of why and how life is in the present and will be in the future. At least, when we have a firm knowledge of what our history is, we will be able to have a right and clear disposition of the present and future circumstance that we shall encounter because everything just goes back to our history.
