It is critical for a parent to be involved in their children’s education because it is important for a child to have knowledge. Parents often help toddlers develop early academic skills by reading books to them or helping them learn their ABCs and numbers. When a child starts school, parents should communicate with their child’s teachers and keep track of their academic progress. Parents of older children should focus on teaching their children independent study

It’s widely recognised that the more involved parents are in their child’s education, the better the pupil performs at school. Whether, it’s just being aware of their progress and understanding their achievements or parents taking a more active role and becoming involved with the school itself.

Family involvement plays a major role when helping students prosper in the school setting. In order for children to be successful, as a teacher, we have to provide support to the parent’s to make an effort in wanting to play apart in that success. Communication plays a major part in the effective relationship between families and school. Giving the parents a sense of idea as to how their child is doing in school is built through the student’s academic needs.

Parent and Community involvement does not occur overnight. I feel that schools must make parent and community involvement a priority, valuing and accepting each other’s differences. Schools, families and communities must work together to support all students in a learning environment to ensure every student is a successful learner. Positive family and school involvement fosters a partnership among my school encouraging students to reach their highest potential academically and in life. Parent and community involvement does not mean stay-at-home mothers coming to school to help as needed, or a businessman stopping by to see events occurring on campus. The role of school, family and community involvement is a partnership incorporating goal-oriented activities for all grade levels linked to academic success and student growth.

The symbiotic relationship between teachers and parents is crucial to the educational success of a student. Parents must be involved with their child’s education through consistent attendance of IEP meetings and advocate for their child and their needs at school. Teachers can encourage parent involvement through, traveling notebooks home and note home programs which establish an open line of communication between teacher and parent. Parent-teacher conferences are a great way for teachers and parents to be involved in the success of the student's educational experience.

Parents are a primary role in their child’s developing stages of life, especially education. Even if they do not realize it, parents play a major part in whether their child succeeds academically or not. Studies have been done to demonstrate the need for parental involvement in children’s school life; the question is how involved should parents be. There are multiple views on how involved a parent should be in their child’s education. Children need a support system to help guide them throughout their school career; the argument between many is how involved parents should be in their child’s academics.

Parental involvement has many positive effects on both child and parent. Some of the benefits of parental involvement for children are a significantly increased cognitive development, an improvement in the child’s motivation, a stronger parent-child relationship and, of course, increased academic achievement. Some of the benefits parental involvement has on parents are gaining a more positive attitude about themselves and their parenting skills, increased self-confidence and an increased satisfaction about their child’s school and faculty at the school (Becher, 2001). Parental involvement in a child’s education stands as a crucial key to a child during their educational years, parents of students are not as involved as their children may need or desire them to be. Research shows it is crucial for a parent to ensure participation in their child’s education, according to Patrikakou (2008) notes parental involvement remains a crucial need for a child’s development, learning, and success in their education. Therefore the involvement the parent provides a child, the greater chance to develop into a healthier, caring, knowledgeable, responsible adult as opposed to children whose parents remain less involved in their learning experiences. This involvement is the participation from parents in every facet of a child 's education and development from birth to adulthood. The involvement from parents takes on numerous forms of communication between the parent and the school, it proceeds encouraging parents to participate in volunteer work, sharing responsibility for the decisions made concerning their child’s education and well-being in the school system, and even collaborating with community-level organizations that reflect the school’s aspirations for the child (Blackboard Schoolwires, 2002-2015). This research will examine how parental involvement affects their child’s educational improvement and how the parent’s involvement influences their child’s future.

Parent involvement in a child’s education is vital to their success. Many students do really well in school while others fail. There is an obvious correlation between the accomplished children and their involved parents.

There are many benefits listed in the textbook that involve parent involvement such as: Positive behavior, long-term achievement, conscientious homework completion, increase in attendance, and graduation rates. Additionally, with the interaction between parents and students, it is a lot easier for the teacher to deal with disruptive behavior by gaining an insight to their home life which might indicate why they are acting a certain way (Introduction to Teaching, 336). With that being said, parent involvement might not be a natural habit. Therefore, making a proactive effort to reach out to parents is essential. Research shows that students whose parents are involved in their education are more likely to adapt well to school, enjoy school and go regularly, complete homework more consistently so they get higher grades and test scores.
