PG13: Intense Sequences of Sci-Fi Violence and Action, and For Brief Strong Language Warner Bros. Pictures, Legendary Pictures, Tencent Pictures, 1 Hr and 58 Minutes Cast: Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Brie Larson, Jing Tian, Toby Kebbell, John Ortiz, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, Shea Whigham, Thomas Mann, Terry Notary, John C. Reilly REVIEW: I remember back to 2014 when San Diego Comic Con announced the new reimagining of King Kong. Before the Deadpool test footage leaked that summer, that was the ultimate film I was excited for. A NEW KING KONG MOVIE THAT TAKES PLACE ON THE ISLAND FINALLY? I’m exhausted of seeing Kong doing the same shit film after film. You see one King Kong film you see them all. I wasn’t even …show more content…
The VFX team put all their best into the film as it tests the barrier of it being a PG13 film. People get dismembered, torn, eaten, squished, in many brutal ways. The action sequences seem like they’re directed by Zack Snyder and Michael Bay, but Vogt-Roberts does it in the best way. There are many shots of slo-mo action in the vain Snyder’s 300 was and plenty of explosions in the vain any given Transformers movie is filmed. What makes it work though is its setting. The film takes place on SKULL ISLAND where small humans are fighting against creatures of larger scale. There aren’t any innocent civilians in the action. It’s only the soldiers vs. these creatures. Explosives are entirely necessary for this situation and the slo-mo makes a lot of the action a lot of fun int he same way Guilemmero Del Toro did in Pacific …show more content…
Its humor is on par with Fonzie Bear telling a joke. He’s only funny when he’s not trying to be. What makes it a bit heartbreaking is seeing the screenplay is written by Dan Gilroy who was nominated for in an Academy Award writing the 2014 film Nightcrawler (one of the best and most underrated films of that year), but then he’s not the only writer credited. Oh yes, this was written by Gilroy and Max Borenstein who wrote the 2014 Godzilla film and several episodes of the short-lived FOX Minority Report series. So you know which one probably messed up with the screenplay. Because of this, the film’s dialogue ranges from cool to incredibly cringe AND GOD is a lot of the dialogue cringe. It’s not even subtle when it’s setting up its character types. You know the type of character Samuel L. Jackson is right when he’s introduced due to the score being played so ominously and loud. If every aggressive soldier stereotype was possessed into with Jackson you get a chilling antagonist who is given the best dialogue in the entire film. It’s like he and Reilly were the only characters with dialogue written by Gilroy and everyone else was written by
After having watched the film the first thing that struck me was that because of the lack of computer techniques and animations (there was no computer in the days it was produced), and the obvious changes between studio scenes and the ones made out at sea made the whole film resemble a comedy rather than a serious drama one. This doesn't matter, of course, because the story in general is very serious; it's a struggle between life and death.
Cast: Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Ginnifer Goodwin, Robert Patrick, Dallas Roberts, Dan John Miller, Larry Bagby, Shelby Lynne
Firstly, I would like to say that overall the film by all standards was not at all bad. When one thinks of a foreign film you might think of a really bad, poorly edited, or low funded film. With the major reason for it being foreign, the obvious reason being that it was not made in Hollywood. However, this movie takes all of the preconceptions about foreign films and turns it upside down. With a budget of nearly 5 million dollars (Instructions), and only being filmed in two locations in Mexico the movies overall quality is actually quite astounding. Furthermore, I would like to commend the directors and editors on doing Hollywood level job, creating and making the final product as it is better then something you might see in a low budget jaws knock off made here in the United States.
Director Seth Gordon seems to have completely checked out with all of this. His movie has no pace, no tone to connect with. He wants to have it nasty and gross-out funny, but he also has dramatic moments and his silly drug/crime subplot. There are action sequences, shot against such obvious and unintentionally terrible CGI, you realize this is an outright failure on every
Thor megastar, Chris Hemsworth, is the most obvious addition to the cast, portraying a smug, yet charming weatherman that loves to make faucet references. Other notable appearances include the obvious appearance by Chevy Chase, followed closely by the vocal Charlie Day, and a rather unexpected bit part by a Walking Dead star (no spoilers here,
Aside from Johnson, Hart, Gillan and Black, Nick Jonas is also included in the cast. Jumanji is set to splash on the big screen in summer
Comedy Elements: What this film did well for me was balancing the various cinematic elements. The filmmaker's allowed the comedic character's to be the comic relief. Everyone doesn't need to be quipping all the time to make funny moments. Which has been a part of Marvel's formula for awhile. It was nice to see the comedic moments play out slightly different than the normal Marvel wheel-house of comedy.
Vincent D'Onofrio plays Vic Hoskins, a security operations executive who, for some reason, is bent on making his idea of using velociraptors as military weapons a reality. When all other attempts to stop the main disaster fall through, he and his team take over emergency command and initiate a plan to test his theories. His strategy also fails, but it doesn't affect the rest of the story much. What "villain's" actions don't have a domino effect?! Hopkins is obnoxious and annoying, but he's nowhere near diabolical, rendering him useless. He's insufferable enough to where you look forward to seeing him inevitably eaten, but even that was a bust. A raptor chomps his arm and the next thing you see is blood splatter on glass. Meanwhile, Claire's lovely and innocent British assistant's demise is one of 1,000 deaths. Seriously? My only complaint, if I had to have one, about the Owen Grady character is that he kind of gives off "cheesy superhero" at times, the cake topper being a scene where he suddenly yanks Claire into an embrace and kisses her in the middle of screaming tourists being attacked. To be clear, the actor performances are fine; the characters just aren't written that
The filmmakers aim for realistic butchering and hit the bullseye. Scene after scene of horrific imagery speaks to the chaos of anarchy. Anyone going to see this film has to be aware of this, so that's to be expected. The second film became much more of an action film as the plot progressed. This outing is a solid action flick from the start. There's a lot of gunplay and hand to hand combat. Grillo is deadly with a knife, shredding baddies like lettuce. But he's not invincible or a superman. I like the fact that he needs to be rescued several times as well. It reinforces how dangerous every corner
The majority of roles are filled by actors from RTP, but there are some more known names among the cast. The main four protagonists are Burnie Burns, Gavin Free, Michael Jones and Colton Dunn, who is a professional actor. The director is Matt Hullum, who has done many projects inside of RTP.
The movie, which was directed by Korean auteur Bong Joon Ho, featured an ensemble cast lead by Chris Evans, Tilda Swanton, and Jaime Bell.
The special effects are excellent when the buildings were falling and the animals were climbing them it was cool and scary because you would'nt think that a wolf and crocodile would climb a big skyskraper
1. The classic film about King Kong actually filmed in the midst of depression, and it was one of those large-scale projects with which the industry was trying to survive the crisis. Not enough has been just taking a good movie, or come up with a fascinating plot. We had to find some totally non-standard and grand solution, which could be involved in the movie theaters of impoverished people who consider every penny. Features time and reflected in the script, as the heroine of the film, gotten on a tropical island in the good-natured paw, in essence, monster, set off on this trip to escape from unemployment. The film's release was in its own way, too, is symbolic: the premiere took place in 1933 when, on the one hand,
Let’s extend a little on the action scenes, the fact that they were made with practical effects, gives them a different look from the blockbusters we’ve seen in the last 10 years, and also the choreographic madness that goes for almost the entire movie, sends you to a 2 hours rush of adrenaline.
In the trailer, Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the role of a psychedelic superhero, is seen speaking with an American accent. For fans, hearing a Brit speak in American accent was not only weird, but also the most alarming part of the trailer. The movie also stars Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mads Mikkelsen, Rachel McAdams and Michael Stuhlbarg.
