Outsiders: Similarities Between The Movie And The Novel

There are some similarities between “the Outsiders” movie and novel. For example The greasers winning the rumble. “...but he was grinning happily because the Socs were running,”(Hinton 145). The rules of the rumble were hands only and who ever runs first lost and the Socs ran first. As well as Ponyboy waking up next the fountain with Bob lying in front of him dead and Johnny completely shocked. “I was lying on the pavement beside the fountain, coughing and gasping,” (Hinton 56). This shows the reader Ponyboy waking up after trying to be drowned. “...Bob, the handsome Soc, was lying in the moonlight, doubled up and still. A dark pool was growing from him…”(Hinton 56). So many events have taken place in The Outsiders and some haven’t throughout both the book and the movie. So many themes have also connected the book and the movie as well. In the novel, The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, has many similarities, differences, and recurring themes that connects to the movie as well.

The book and the movie of the Outsiders are two very different stories. The book has so much more detail then the movie. The movie is not the most detailed but it does get its point across. There are may similarities and also many differences between the two the book is by far more interesting and more detailed then the movie. I enjoyed the book a lot and the movies a lot but the movie was missing a lot.

The novel has more detail than the movie because in the novel it showed more of the characters backstories it doesnt talk about Ponyboy’s school or about Dally’s past life was like before he moved and how Johnny got beat up by the Soc while the movie skipped all of that. Another is that in the novel you can hear the character’s thoughts you could hear what Ponyboy was thinking throughout the whole story and because the novel was in first person and the movie was in third person so you couldn't really hear what the character was thinking in the movie.

When the socs and the greasers are going to have the big rumble in the book Darry asks if anyone wants to fight him but in the movie the person that he fight in both the book and movie says he will fight him. After the big rumble Dally and Ponyboy go to see Johnny who is almost dead and after he dies Ponyboy freaks out in the book and thinks he's not dead but in the movie it is only Dally. In the book Dally goes and robs a grocery store but in the movie he robs the gas station. When Dally leaves in the movie the guy shoots Dally and injures him but in the book he never had a gun. When Dally is shot by the police he is shot at the park in the movie but in the book he is shot in the street under the lamppost. There is so much more differences in the movie but it would be impossible to say them all so that is all of the differences i found from the book and

Although, The Outsiders did not get popular very quickly, it was eventually made into a major motion picture and is now a best-seller. The Outsiders the movie and book are both great works, but the book provided more detail and was just way better. Therefore, this paper will compare the similarities and discrepancies between the book and movie. Ultimately, the goal of this essay is to provide evidence that the movie was quite different than the book.

The book and the film were both simular, and yet different in many ways. An example would be, in the film, Ponyboy was walking to the drive-in and meeting Cherri and Marcia. Although in the book, Ponyboy began his journey by telling the readers about his experience about being jumped by the Socs and being threatened. The director probably had some options to pick from to leave out from the movie, and the director chosed this to leave out. Leaving out the part where Ponyboy was jumped was an effective move because without the experience Ponyboy was lost and helpless because he did not know what to do when he and Johnny got cornered in the park by Bob and other Socs.

Along with the similarities there are many differences in The Outsiders. In the beginning of the movie it started with a fight between some of the socs or greasers. In the book it

The “Outsiders” movie and novel are very different and similar. The book and the movie have some similarities. After really comparing the two there was a lot of differences.

The first thing that I recognize in the movie was when Darry pushed Ponyboy, but in the story Darry slapped Darry in to the door, when he got home late. In the book Ponyboy was talking about how his parents died and he said that they died in a car crash, but in the movie it shows a clip that his parents died in a train wreck. Also in the movie they

Differences (stick with at least four)- Ponyboy has a good relationship with sodapop and gets along better with darry but still has a very good relationship with his brother. In the beginning of the book, Pony gets jumped by some Socs, but he doesn’t get cut with a knife. In the movie, they cut him. In the movie when ponyboy is talking to cherry he says how the sun on the south side and she says”good how bout the north.” In the book it's written west and east. Also in the movie johnny never got his first beating from the soc in the book he does. In the book it gave more detail and information in the movie it starts like in mid way of the book.

The Outsiders is a book that was published in 1967 and the movie was released in 1983. The Outsiders has two main “groups” of people in the story, Outsiders and Socs. Socs are the rich kids with fancy mustangs and Greasers are the “hood” type that have each other's backs. In this adventure a kid named Ponyboy gets himself into a huge mess when his friend Johnny took things way too far by killing a Soc. I think that the book is better than the movie because the book gives better detail and descriptions, you can feel and understand emotion, and you can experience character growth.

According to the book, Pony wrote the book “the Outsiders” for his English project. The movie also has some events that the book doesn’t have just like the book has events that the movie doesn’t have.

I like the Outsiders in the form of a book better than in the form of a movie because, the movie wasn’t as descriptive as the written form was. The book form had was also much more thrilling, and interesting. The Movie was missing many key points that could have made it better.
