Creativity is a significant skill for problem solving and generating new ideas. Creativity is also essential in nursing practice while giving care to patients, or even while caring for older people in Long Term Care, caring for dementia residents in care facilities. Sometimes, we as nurses do not realize that we are creative or not. Creative leaders are those leaders who lead with a flow but also add new changes and own creations to make the process and work more effective. In nursing, creativity results positive outcomes as while caring for patients, it plays a significant role in maintaining health and well-being. This is a good example of creativity, when I was a Nursing student in India. I was posted in a Community area as a Community Nurse to give health education to clients who were dealing with Arthritis , when I talk to them I found that more of them were illiterate and does not understand the language and familiar with the things related to disease process and treatment. Then I found that it will be very effective if I will express the ideas on charts with pictures on it to the participants. The result was so good and their feedback was positive. This is a creative learning and teaching. It helps in all …show more content…
It depicts that critical thinking results more creativeness in a person while working as a student nurse or as a Nurse Leader. We nurses have to be one step ahead and this will be with practice and putting more efforts. All in ALL, Creativity is an essential component of nursing practice that occurs daily in nurse's interactions with clients, families and other nurses. Another example is of soothing room for the residents in Dementia unit of CVL, where I had a chance to work with the residents who are very aggressive and more advanced stage dementia. So, again here I want to say that putting efforts results positive
Tanner (2006), had introduce the term ‘thinking like a nurse’. When I read this article I was wondering what it means and takes to think like a nurse, I am a nurse by profession and yet I don’t even know what it means. In order to be a professional nurse, nurses are required to learn to think like a nurse. To my surprise, to be able think like a nurse, a nurse got to clearly defined and understands what is critical thinking and clinical reasoning. Both terms are powerful terms and these terms explain the mental processes nurses use to make certain that they are doing their most excellent thinking and decision making for their patient’s better outcomes.
Critical thinking is a nursing process that includes reflective practice, problem solving and decision making which are connected to one another. The definition of critical thinking is transferring and applying knowledge and skills in a new situation. The critical thinking is needed in a lot of aspects of the nurses’ job such as when the nurses need to provide the precise identification in the specific problems had by the patients. They need to be in detail and also critical to themselves in every time in order to be able to provide identification precisely. When you have the profession in nursing, it is important to be critical thinker. The nurses have the high responsibilities and their responsibilities are increasing from time to time.
Creativity is more about the process rather than the end product and this creative process is useful for many reasons, developing confidence, developing good relationships, finding out what talents and strengths we have and teaches us about
Nurses that exert critical thinking have understanding and skill and analyze their own views under new EBP. Without critical thinking, a nurse will not get very far in her job because it is the capability to think intelligently and make judicious
Creativity is all about the 21st century skills and the future students. One form of creativity they will use is brainstorming. It includes elaborating, analyzing refining, and evaluating ideas to improve and maximize creative efforts (Syrett, 2002). Creativity involves originality, and working with peers to come up with ideas. It will allow you to fail and work on what went wrong and recreate it. They will have the tools that are needed to be creative. Creativity is an important aspect for every student to
Even in management, critical thinking is essential to having an effective organization. “Nurse managers who are adept at using critical thinking and have the “habits of mind” of a critical thinker are in a good position to assume a leadership role and create the changes that will achieve positive outcomes in health care organizations” (Zori, & Morrison, 2009 p.79).
Critical thinking is a major component of the nursing process. Critical thinking is define as, “that mode of thinking—about any subject, content, or problem—in which the thinker improves the quality of his or her thinking by skillfully taking charge of the structures inherent in thinking and imposing intellectual standards upon them” (Paul and Eder, 2012). Nurses who critically think about their patients have a better chance of solving the patient’s problems quickly and successfully. Critically thinking nurses are engaged, “in a process of constant evaluation, redirection, improvement, and increased efficiency (Black, 2014, p. 154). A nurse must ask herself questions and review the details after her interaction with
A smart man said “Creativity is as important as literacy and we should treat it with the same standing.” (Ken Robinson-“Do schools kill creativity?”). There are multiple studies on how creativity helps improve a student’s mind. Project based learning is a huge creative booster for students. A math teacher from California uses projects to do math instead of using the text book. From doing this, she’s had more students pass her class then from when she was teaching straight from the text books. Instead of having standardized tests, using more creative techniques for students to enjoy the learning they’ve done and for them to show the higher officials what the students are learning. Creativity is the process of turning real world problems into an understanding by extending the minds cognitive processes. In Alabama, kindergartners are studying different ways to be creative.
In discussing my theory I see that the model is based on two main assumptions humanism and veritivity. Humanism is very broad and recognizes the individual in more subjective aspects of human experiences and human needs. Humanism stresses the potential value of goodness of human beliefs. The other assumption is veritivity which is a principle of human nature that affirms a purposefulness of human existence (Butts & Rich, 2018). I feel the principle of verivity allows the nurse to be social and to help change through being good and applying knowledge and practice. Creativity for the common good are involved in veritivity and allows every human being to be unique (Butts & Rich, 2018).
The Current world needs people who have a lot of different abilities such as cognition and application of different ways of problem solving, critical thinking skills and creativity. On behalf of the situation the writer selected the article in order to know the relationship between these two variable and hope understanding these two variables relation, as future faculty assist to plan the course and curriculum design in academic and unit based practice since the relation between these two variables affect by the external factors such as culture, socioeconomic status, previous experience. The Importance of Critical Thinking Skills in Nursing.
An example of this is when we get a basic prompt, for example, make a spooky play with our own characters and dialogue based on ‘The Sixth Sense.’ Sometimes we’re paired with someone else in the class and are given no prompt, and are forced to use our minds and make a two man performance. One final example of creativity is when we are told to direct a
In this essay, I will share my experience when I was still a novice in the nursing profession and how my understanding of critical thinking has radically transformed, the importance of critical thinking skills in this profession and useful ways on how to develop this specific skill.
Creativity is the ability to produce work that is original yet appropriate-something that others have not thought of but that is useful in some way (Kaufman & Sternberg, 2007; Sternberg, 2003b). The significance of creativity for children’s development is very high. Creativity helps children develop the overall areas of development; physical, social, emotional, language and cognitive. A child learns to innovate as well as invent while doing creative activities. Through creative practices child finds multiple methods of looking at various situations, assessing these situations and finding new solutions. Children often desire to be able to express themselves without any
Creative teaching makes learning easier for students because it creates a possibility for students to be entertained instead of bored with the material that is being taught. One way to start the quest to being creative in the classroom would be think differently. Teachers need to think of new ways to teach their students. Think of new sources that make students explore, ponder, and contemplate. Providing a variety of options and resources is another way to keep students engaged and creative in the classroom. Creative teaching is a way to keep students excited about learning, keep them entertained and learning at the same
Effective leaders need to be creative and innovative. Effective leaders need to understand that the blood of the organization which they are leading lays innovation and creativity (Swid, 2015). Creation of new ideas can result in programs which are superior to the already planned or established plans. The responsibility of the leadership is to engage appropriate people in the right times, to the appropriate degree but in creative manner. Employee creativity is also enhanced by leaders who are inspirational. Any business
