The proudest accomplishment in my educational career has been graduating with a college degree in a field I absolutely love. With all honesty, I cannot attest that I have always wanted to be a registered nurse. As my college transcripts reflect, I have taken a hodgepodge of classes in attempt to find something; anything I can be passionate about. I found that passion in my first nursing class, Introduction to Healthcare Careers, that I took at the community college. Initially, I planned on taking a few medical terminology and anatomy classes to assist me at work as a paralegal. At the time, I worked for an attorney who specialized in personal injury and medical malpractice law. I would work 40+hours a week at the law firm and nursing school/clinical hours were done on nights and weekends. I survived and graduated with my Associates degree in nursing.

My nursing career has been a journey full of gratification and personal success. Choosing a college major in college is a task that requires a lot of thought. A career that I decided to pursue is nursing. Nursing has multiple fields and career paths, and students must choose nursing career that fits them best. I was always undecided regarding the career that I wanted to pursue. As I got older and looked at many choices in careers I realized that I wanted to have a career in the medical field. This career has a deep outlook such as providing care in different facilities like hospitals, nursing home, long term care facilities and people homes. Nurses duties are writing records, supervising lower level educated staff members, keeping workloads organized, providing emotional support for patients as well as relatives. The respective career path I have chosen to take on and pursue is nursing. The profession and practice of nursing is an aspect of the medical field I have always had a keen interest in, as working amongst a team of other healthcare professionals to give patient-centred care is something I can see myself doing in the future. Prior to choosing nursing as my career path, the research I did about the profession stated that nurses are advocates for those in need. I interpreted that personally as, nurses are the voice of those who are ill and inadequate therefore, they protect the rights of their patients through extensive knowledge about the field.
