Twelve years ago I took my boards and became a licensed practical nurse. Going to school to become an LPN was difficult, but I was not a mother and I did not work full time as I do now. My current hands on patient care will remain the same, but as a registered nurse I will see less patients and have less documentation. Registered nursed that I work with believe it will be an easy transition due to that fact that I am familiar with home health. According to Gordon, Melrose, Janzen, and Miller (2013), conflict is expected in the LPN to RN transition and developing the independence needed to function as an RN can be difficult. I perceive my transition will not have this conflict because I already work independently. The conflict I perceive having is delegating to an LPN I have been working with for 7 years. I understand that working as an LPN can be difficult and LPNs often feel disrespected and treated unfairly. behind my name are the endless career possibilities. I perform a lot of wound care on a daily basis. I plan to continue obtaining my yearly KCI wound vac certification. A career goal I have is to pursue my BSN so that I can become a certified wound, ostomy, and continence nurse. Another possible career goal is if I become a WOCN I would like to open a wound clinic in Americus, GA so patients do not have to travel so far. I plan to continue my training in treating patients with severe CHF and LVADs.
