1. What countries represent the largest global business opportunities for the next decade? What factors determine the size of the opportunity?

Kohl’s is an American department store, founded by Maxwell Kohl in 1962. In 1946, Maxwell operated his first store which is known as Kohl’s Food Store. After the success of Kohl’s Food Store, he opened his first department store which is Kohl’s Department Store (present). Since that year, it has been operating in the retail industry and it offers clothing, furniture, accessories, electronics, and house ware products. During the 2000s. Kohl’s has expanded nationwide in the United States. Also, Kohl’s is the second largest retail store in the United States. In addition, the target group of Kohl’s are upper middle and upper class individuals especially families.(Gennrich, 2012)

In "The Store" by Edward P. Jones, the narrator seems to be an irresponsible, immature, and lazy at first. At the beginning, not even once he bothered thinking about the future. All he cared for was the cigarettes and the beers. He called them "valuables". Since he was living with his mom, he did not have to worry about the shelter and the food. Therefore, he did not bother to look for the new job. His mom did not seem to care about him fooling around jobless as well. Because of that, he did not care when his brother told him to look for a new job. Altogether, he was a waste at the beginning. However, Mr. Jones gave the strong clue about his future success by showing his strong work ethic when he said "Never late, never talked back and always volunteering" (142). With that in mind, there were some incidents as the story progressed, positive and negative that helped him to realize about his future.

Nordstrom is an ideal store based in US equipped with fashionable items that can be bought through coupons availed through Nordstrom coupons. The Nordstrom coupon codes are another way to make discounted deals you can search for on the online web. Women make their important buys of fashionable items which is sold with use of Nordstrom coupon.

The companies that were chosen for a company analysis include Macy’s, Kohl’s, and Burlington. Since the retail industry has been lagging behind lately, these companies will help determine the prospective financial investment in the retail industry. As Macy’s as our primary company, we chose Kohl’s and Burlington to be the two comparative companies. These companies are comparable due to the same SIC code of 5311 in the subgroup of department stores. These companies offer similar products and services with little differentiation between the three.

Nordstrom’s is classified as one of the biggest U.S. department stores. Along with Sears, Macy’s, and JC Penny’s, Nordstrom manages each department in their stores as an individual buying center. Every group functions separately from one another, and is administered by a buyer who is in charge of all varieties and styles of merchandise sold. Promotions that can be used in the stores are included, as well. “The company has also benefited from a new computerized inventory system that gives buyers and salespeople the necessary data to make smarter decisions about what is needed in the stores—and what isn’t.” (Lamb, Hair, McDaniel 569). This new and improved system allows the department store to market a greater amount of full priced items, which ultimately increase sales. The buyer is also able to easily determine what items to obtain and exhibit in the store by using this system.

As someone who has never had the privilege of living near a Nordstrom’s I’ve always seen going to the store as a treat. Because of where I’ve lived I had never seen an advertisement. What I do find interesting however is their influence over Google and other search engines. I online shop more than I care to admit and anytime I google an article of clothing described a business, or semi-formal their brand pops up in the top 5.

In Menswear of Nordstrom, they hold a very strong marketing mix. Within their marketing mix, they have product. Men’s wear in Nordstrom has a very large scale of items from mid-tier to high fashion. It consists of more than hundred brands. Some brands are offered exclusively at Nordstrom only for men’s wear, such as Paul Smith lines. The items for men’s wear is quality oriented and mostly British styled. The selection of items are also vary from suits to casual and even sportswear, too. In service side, Nordstrom provides unmatched customer service for men by customizing products and providing tailored services to their needs. Best Buy is electronic retailer that has brand names under 11 brand names in the United States. The company also has services in Canada, China, Europe and Mexico. It specializes in selling technology and entertainment products and services. The company became successful by using a low cost strategy and high cost customer service practices. The company has a lead market position because of its differentiation strategy, its brand names that are reputable and the many series of acquisitions.

When our professor first presented this project paper to us my mind began to wonder. What is a good company to research and present it to my fellow classmates. My first selection was “Chik-fil-a”, but I wasn’t sure if we could write about fast food franchises. So I continued to brainstorm about a topic to expound on, even going as far as in asking my buddies and co-workers for suggestions. “Walmart”, “National Football League”, “National Basketball Association”, “Nationwide Insurance”, and “LG” were a few ideas that were presented to me.
