Identity in Native America is directly associated with culture and language. As a result, some of the issues today which are important in shaping the identity of modern Native Americans include: representations of native people by the media in sports and popular culture; how indigenous languages are being revitalized and maintained; and identity reclamation. The Native American lifestyle has changed significantly during the last half of the 20th century and that is because views on the Native people have drastically changed over time. They have had many hardships that have greatly impacted their culture over the past few centuries leading up to today.

Current American society is constantly affected by events from the past, but sometimes what society thinks is in the past is not so far behind. The way Native Americans were treated historically continually plays a part in current American society. Due to the racism and stereotypes carried throughout society the Native American cultural circle is constantly under fire.

Native American culture originated in some parts North America. These countries are known as the United States of America and some parts of Canada. In the United States, there are 6.6 million Native Americans, which form about 2.0 percent of the population (Bureau, 2016). Europe had realized there were about 50 million people already living the “new world” and these people were called Native Americans. Native Americans were originally called Indians, but later through history they formed a new name. These people were called this because of them being native to the “new world” and the American part came after the colonist named the United States. Throughout history, Native Americans believed that using raw material in nature was the best way to provide for their people. Their culture thought no part of an animal should go to waste. They would eat the meat, use the skin for clothing, and make jewelry from the bones. Over the years a lot of their culture and customs were lost due to conforming with society. Their languages were referred to as “Indigenous Languages” because of them being extremely complicated and diverse. Some important factors that help understand the foundation of Native American culture are their rituals/practices, death ceremonies, holidays, family, and stereotypes.

The definition of Sociology is the study of human societies through the synthesis of theoretical analysis and controlled research, focusing on the social patterns and the different factors that influence humans. I was born in a small town with roughly five hundred people in it; Terrero Negro the most beautiful town in Honduras is where I grew up for the majority of my childhood. Sadly do a corrupt government the majority of the population lives in poverty, however that does not stop anyone from always offering you a cup of coffee or any type of beverage when you arrive at their house. This is one of the most important norms, thus from a young age everyone is taught to be courteous and make your guest feel at home by offering them a beverage.

Every country and nation has they own special festivals and music, and Native American is no exception. First, the native music related many aspects such as ritual, life and work. Our nation’s history has been deep rooted in the conflict involving Native Americans, ever since the beginning of America and it is one hard to get rid of even as the days go by. The impact of colonialism can be seen in Native American communities even today, and it can only be understood through a cultural perspective once you experience it. This is where ideas clash because people believe their views are right regarding how to handle it.

The Natives of both North and South America lived culturally diverse lives. Tribes from the Great Plains, likely had significantly different lifestyles than the Aztecs, but there were certain key parts of Native American life that were found throughout most cultures. Almost all groups were to be found with a system for the acquisition of food and some form of religion. These practices changed and developed, especially with the arrival of the Europeans. Through thick and thin the Native Americans survived for thousands of years, their culture was ever changing, yet the core fundamentals of living remained static.

Back in the time the Native Americans had two types of cultures and they were social and material. Each of these cultures were based on a different characteristic. For example, material people were simple, they had language barriers, body painted themselves, lived in villages and used their most common boat called the Tule Balsa . The apparent likeness of these two cultures in the ways in which their deconstruction impacted them is in more of an abundance, such as the dominating influence of the Christian religion and the gravely vital role of maintaining what little heritage they could through language. In contrast to this, the two groups had an opposing difference pertaining to how the Natives and slaves tried to compensate the immense loss of their culture through the generations.

In the United States, there are over 500 federally recognized American and Native tribes. All which study and practice their own set of cultures and values. Religion, language, food and way of dress are what makes every tribe different in their own unique way. The “Indian Wars” of both the 18th and 19th century caused many of these tribes to relocate thus causing them to not only lose their homelands but also their cultural identity. Native Americans were prohibited from practicing religion and cultural ceremonies. This caused a recession in youth obtaining the knowledge to keep their cultural renaissance alive and pass on their tribal dialects to future generations.
