Besides being compassionate my mother is thoughtful. She stays at work late if someone needs help with theirs. She brings my grandmother dinner and runs errands for her. She is always putting others before herself. For instance, last year I began singing in the choir at Iowa State. It was really important to me because singing has always been a passion of mine. She drove to Ames for every single concert. It meant a lot to me to have her in the audience supporting me. This year I also started singing in the choir at my church. I was really excited and nervous about singing the first Sunday so few days before I was going to sing she gave me a beautiful necklace with a star pendant on it. I remember her warm hug and her telling me good luck and that I was ‘her star’. It touched me that she took time out of her busy schedule to encourage and support things that she knew were important to me. She could have just wished me well and enjoyed her few minutes of spare time, but instead she put me first.

She taught me important lessons and one of them was how to be an independent female. she told me if I wanted to be successful, college will lead you the right path that you need to be at. Whenever she told me stuff like this, it would help and encourages me a lot. I have never been in any hard situation in my life and that’s because my mom is always by my side. A cook, a coach, a mother, caregiver - I could go on and on. Imagine someone who does all of this for you. My mom. I will always be so grateful for her. I can go to her whenever I need to, no matter what. Her cuddles are like a soft cloud. My mom, being the caring woman she is, will always go out of her way for you, without even a tiny bit of being apprehensive. She is a shoulder to cry. I don't know anyone who could deal with eight kids… Eight kids! When I went to Florida she stayed back in our hotel to watch our dogs so my sister and I could go to Universal for the whole day and have an awesome time. Even though it was raining cats and dogs, I had the best day, because of my mom. She is an amazing person and an amazing mom. Unconditional love is what she is best at. All of these reasons is why I am so thankful for my mom - and always will be.
