Choosing to study Bachelor of Education at the Institute of Foreign Languages was one of the biggest concerns I have ever had in my academic years. The reason was that I used to be a person who hated teaching the most and used to have pessimistic ideas towards teaching as well, but eventually became a teacher trainee teaching in reading class. At the very beginning of the teaching practicum, I was so nervous and I thought I could not go through these tough and complicated moments easily. It was until I finished my teaching practicum did I realize that there is nothing that I cannot do in this world. During these six weeks teaching period, I had learned to believe solely on myself and put all of my efforts in order to end my teaching demonstrations with fruitful results and hereby I also believed on a quote stated that “Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible’!” Personally, what I had gone through during …show more content…
Therefore, my supervisor also recommended me to try to use the language that is simple, easy, and fit to the students’ level and he even suggested me to carefully anticipate the unexpected problems that may occur during the teaching. All of the comments and advice provided by my supervisor and associate teacher were precious to me because without all of those things I wouldn’t have done my teaching practicum successfully. To sum up, even if the teaching practicum was short, what I had received and achieved were more than my expectation. It was a period that I, as a trainee, was able to apply all the theories, techniques, and methods that I learned in Teaching Methodology, Foundations of Education, and Applied Linguistics class into practice and it was a special period that I could learn to develop my ideas into a broader sense. Although I encountered suffering and difficult moments, yet teaching practicum was a priceless gift I have ever had within these four years at
With regard to the aims of this study, as mentioned earlier, I believe that understanding can be drawn from a deep and careful analysis of participants’ biographies, their schooling and teacher training experiences, and their everyday teaching practicum experiences. Participants’ experiences were gathered from various methods of data collection (which will be described in section 5.4), and analysis was conducted to
Teaching is an extremely important profession as we are responsible for training up the future generations of our community, country and in effect, the world. In order to be a successful and effective teacher there are some basic skills and competencies that one must possess. The experiences that students have inside (and outside) our classrooms, schools and various other institutes will shape and mould their approach to our subjects and to life in general. Therefore, it requires a certain level of skill and training to be deemed professionally fit to enter into this career path and even then, continuous
This essay contemplates my individual development, skill acquisition and exploration of teaching approaches; throughout and beyond the International Teacher Training Organisation (ITTO) program. The problems I encountered will be discussed; and their relation to establishing where my wealth of primary teaching experience aligns with English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching approaches. For example; efforts to reduce my teacher talk time compared to primary school education was important, correcting pronunciation in an appropriate manner and correctly pacing both my speech and activities were areas of development that were observed, reflected on personally and subsequently acted upon.
Considering that I have not decided yet if I want to be a teacher, or which ages I would like to instruct, this opportunity was helpful and significant. Moreover, it was fascinating to see the same person instruct two separate classes and curriculums; it taught me that if I were one day to find myself in the position of having to teach different courses, I could apply the same method of teaching in all of them by adapting it to the curriculums and to the students’
My Vocational Teaching Credential and six years of experience working in an Elementary school were worthless, because I didn’t speak any English at all. The language barrier was a huge obstacle, but I was determined to overcome it. Consequently, at the age of 25, I had to start my education all over again. However, I had the same dream: to teach in a classroom again.
2) I believe sharing support of ELLs and ensuring an inclusive approach relies greatly on the teachers themselves, specifically the classroom and ELL teacher. Fairbaim & Jones-Vo mention two things that I believe would work these are collaboratively planning lessons and co-teaching. By planning lessons together, both teachers are on the same page, They each understand the respected needs of their students and able to work together to create ways in which lessons are excited to optimize student success. I also think having another person perceptive is beneficial as their teaching experiences may offer you some guidance. In terms of co-teaching, I think this directly benefits the students. We all have different ways of teaching and I think students
I have chosen to become a teacher because I believe that education is the center of a country’s development process and prosperity. I want to be an educator to play an effective role in my society’s revival. Besides, I have always dreamed to be a teacher; it is a passion, which I truly have since I was young. The strong teaching motivation, which I have is derived from the deep belief that teachers can make a big difference in their students’ lives. In addition, I believe that teaching is a noble profession, which should be taken seriously. I know that being a teacher is never easy; it comes with high responsibilities and obstacles, but I am sure that I have suitable qualifications, which make me eligible to overcome them. Education as a basic concept in my perspective is all about developing knowledge, skills, values, ethics, physical and spiritual aspects,
Through my experiences working in the education field and the classes I have taken at Cal State LA, I have developed a personal teaching philosophy that will be implemented in my future classrooms. My experiences working with middle school and high schools students have led me to pursue a career in teaching. For three years, I worked as an Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) tutor at my former high school helping students with their homework and problems they face. AVID is a college preparation program designed to help high school students become motivated and prepared to enter a four-year university of their choice. I also was fortunate to work at the CSULA Reading and Writing clinic as a teaching facilitator during their Summer
As such, the conventional mode of the twenty-first century has experienced great impacts with regard to its concepts and strategies. As such for any teacher who intends to eventually excel at this noble profession, expanding their knowledge in both the practical and theoretical frameworks of the profession is imperative. It is for this reason that I would like to pursue my Masters in teaching. The reason I chose ETSU as my university of choice is that it is one of the most exceptional institutions of higher learning in the country. Steeped in a time-honored history, the University has set itself apart with its culture of innovation, vibrant intellectual atmosphere, and an all-inclusive curriculum. I intend to enroll in a teaching program for middle grades school, and I am convinced that at ETSU I will be able to achieve my goal of becoming the best teacher I can be. I am convinced that given a chance to enroll in the Master’s program, I will do my utmost best to carry on the institution’s tradition of academic
Over the past four years since John started school in Australia his level of English has improved a lot; especially his receptive use of the language. John is a talented language student and is achieving great results in both additional languages he is studying at the moment, English and Japanese. Due to his cultural background John does not volunteer to speak freely during class. This makes it hard for his teacher to find the degree of depth of his understanding of new concepts learned in class. However, he is a passionate language learner and his focus is to perfect his knowledge in both additional languages.
List the most significant strengths that you bring to the practicum based on preceding checklist.
To conclude, in relation with the findings made and my own experience on my practicum in a public school, I can realize that my beliefs were similar to the students who participate in the research. Nevertheless, the only difference is that I do not agree with the memorization of the rules instead, with the internalization by connections with their mother tongue. Also, I believe that in our practicum, we tend to copy the strategies that our mentor teachers use, which are the mechanic activities, paper sheets or drills, and so forth, letting our belief that English is acquired through
During my learning experience, I had the opportunity to re-skill myself and learn new strategies to support my mission as a teacher. Recently, the Practicum course has helped me live an authentic experience by transferring my learning and understanding into reality. I share knowledge, experience, and communication, which increase my awareness in a way to understand the change and implement new ways of
Every fourth-year teacher trainees will have to conduct practicum and will work under the guideline of their associate teachers and supervisors. The purpose of doing the practicum are to put training into practice, to become accustomed to teaching in the tertiary school settings, and to develop and expand each trainee’s teaching expertise and confidence. In the following paragraph, I will express what I have learnt from doing practicum to reflect on my past teaching strengths and weaknesses from the teaching practicum.
The professional development of a teacher can be a challenging task yet not impossible. During the process of this course I have learned how to face this challenge. However developing my own ideas and style of language teaching is still a work in progress. As a prospective language teacher I take in all methods and principles this course as given me. In doing so I believe it will make me a better professional. This course has presented me with some thoughts ELT teachers need to have once the period of formal training is over.
