My Favorite Family Vacation Spot
As soon as I got of the plane and breathed in that City air I new my life would change for the better. I was waiting for this day for the past several months. It was the first time I would go with my father and brothers on their “Boys Only Vacation”. I was thrilled at the fact that they would finally let me tag along with them. This year they decided to go to Washington D.C. I had never been to D.C before, and what made it even better was the fact that around the time we would arrive it would be snowing. It was my first time ever seeing snow with my naked eye. So when the time came we headed out to Tampa International Airport. We checked our bags, went threw security and waiting in line before entering the aircraft. It was about a 2 hour flight before we arrived in the place that now has my heart till the day I die. As soon as we stepped out the Airport my eyes were widened by the site of seeing snow for the first time. The snow felt as if it was made out of a snow cone machine. The sound of my feet stomping in the snow like stepping on packing peanuts is the sound that I will listen to for hours. After about a quarter of a mile walk we got to the subway station where for the first time I experienced how busy big cities can be. We got our cards and headed downstairs to where the subway trains were. The sound of a jazz musician playing Duke Ellington’s “Rhapsody in Blue” made me want to give the man all the money in my pocket but sadly I couldn't. There was also the smell of chili cheese dogs that the people next to us were trying to scarf down before the train arrived. Finally it arrived and this was my first time on a subway car. The feeling of my butt on the rough “cushioned” chairs wasn't the best feeling in the world. The sight on many people from Jamaican to Irish was one that I haven't seen in such a small compacted space. I could also see the sight of Jefferson Memorial and the Potomac River as we passed them was breathtaking. We passed a few other sights such as the Washington Monument, The Lincoln Memorial and the WW2 Memorial. As we walked off the train we could hear the conductor giving everyone safety instructions and telling them to step away from the doors.
The plane took off and were in the air leaving the place I had only ever known. I remember when my parents told me and my two brothers that we would be moving to the United states. At the time I didn’t know where we would end up or how we were even getting there. All I knew was I would be in a totally different landscape with a lot of ethnically different people whom I have never met or seen before.
My journey all began as I took my first steps on American soil. It was in the month of February and the snow still lined the edges of
I remember my first day in America like it just happened yesterday! I moved to America from India when I was just 12 year old. When I started my journey to America, I was getting mixed feelings, one side I was excited to go to America I saw in movies and wanted to be a part of great American culture but on the other side I was feeling sad about leaving behind my friends and place I was born and spent my childhood. But when Pilot announced that we are about to reach to Houston in 30 minutes I got anxious and opened my seat window. When I looked Houston through plane window, cars on freeway looked like ants’ running in one line and that was really
When the plane finally landed in New York, I remember everyone cheering and clapping. We had made it to America. I looked through the window and saw a place completely different than what I had ever known. I immediately started to feel the chilly weather of New York. I had never experienced cold temperature, but I came prepared with a light jacket and sweater for my daughter and me.
On October 6th, 2016 at around 3 p.m. I rode the number 1 train from Van Courtlandt Park in the Bronx to South Ferry in lower Manhattan. The ride lasted about an hour. Like stated earlier, this should’ve been just another ride I had to take on the subway, but to my surprise it was a different experience. Without the disturbance of music and my phone, my senses were focused on everything in my surroundings and with that, the things I’ve observed on my ride were fascinating. This essay will focus on the observations I’ve made about the different riders
Ever since I was a little girl, New York City always seemed like a place that was magical. My family’s TV on Thanksgiving was always broadcasting the enormous balloons, extravagant floats, and millions of people lining the streets of the city for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. Freshman year, excited squeals and giggles erupted from my brother and I after our parents told us that we would be visiting New York City for the first time to witness the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. After several months of waiting and lots of turbulence, our plane hit the landing with a thunk at Laguardia airport and reality set in: we were in the city. Walking out of the airport was absolutely surreal. The sights, sounds, and smells surrounded my family and
I woke up in my comfortable bed and walked downstairs. I walked to the door that leads outside and opened it. I could smell the fresh air of the country. It has been a week since I moved from New York. I use to live in a crowded suburb in New York City where I couldn’t smell the fresh air. Now that I moved to South Carolina with my wife and two children, I think my life is taking a turn for the better. I live right on the coast, so I also get an excellent view of the ocean from my porch. I continued to breath the fresh air for a while longer. After about five minutes of standing there, I went inside and closed the door. The rest of my family was still upstairs sleeping. I went to the kitchen and started to cook breakfast. The smell of freshly
A few hours earlier I had no idea what I was going to be doing with my afternoon. My family and I sat in the car talking, while my mom drove down the freeway. We started to drive into the city, big sky scrapers surrounded us. My mom exited the freeway and headed downtown. I’d only been in Chicago once before, and it had been for a short hour. We drove around until we found a parking garage. I hopped out of the car, stretching my legs. If you have ever been in an underground parking garage you know their cool and can smell pretty awful. Then we headed out to explore.
Three days after my high school graduation, Randolph and I spent a day in a whole new city. Being from Roselle, I had never really been to one of the most beautiful city such as downtown Chicago. Spending the day in Chicago was like discovering a new way of living life that I had only heard from siblings and the news. I checked my bags to make sure I didn’t leave anything essential behind and I checked them five more times. we were sleepy during the flight as we arrived at the airport and made our way to the gate. The streets are filled with an atmosphere that is like a child on a shopping spree in a candy store. I was thrilled as I realized that I was in one of the biggest airport in the United States. watching the Chicago Cubs win the World Series was the most amazing feeling.
It was the spring of mid may traveling to Mauch Chunk Lake Park. Rolling down my window to get a hint of fresh air, the smell of trees, leafs and grass filling up my nose and filling up the car. Hearing the birds chirp and the cars passed while looking out the window to see miles and miles of trees weirdly calmed me.
My dad and I had always lived in New York City. After 15 years of experience and the guidance of my older brother, you could say that I knew my way around town. The coffee shops with the best lattes, the highest swinging swing sets in every park, and most importantly, the buildings with the best views. You would think that after living here for so long I would get sick of seeing the view of the city every day, but it just never gets old. The best spot is at the top of my apartment building, on the far northeast corner, looking over the horizon and onto the Hudson. There was no other way of completing my day, no matter the rain, snow, or blazing heat I sat on that rooftop every night as the sun disappeared, along with the overworked New Yorkers for the night. The most interesting part is, every single night, the color of the sky is always slightly different. No sunset was ever the exact same. Anyways, as I was walking back down the stairs to my condo, 7B, I got the jitters in my stomach, I was beyond excited for tomorrow, the first day of Winter Break. My older brother, Todd, was taking me and my best friend Hannah up to Vermont to go skiing. I opened our apartment door, took a quick shower, and fell asleep with Cooper on my lap while watching Full House.
It was 7:00 am on a summer morning and I was still in a daze after just being woken up. Today was to the day that I was going to see my sister and as soon as I made sure I had everything, I headed out. My sister lived far and instead of wasting gas to drive, I was going to fly. I was on my way to the airport with my mom and grandma and as we got closer, my heart began to race with fear and anticipation. It wasn’t because I was afraid of flying, because I actually loved it. I loved the way fields looked like worn quilts from so high above. However this time was different, because on this trip, my family would not be accompanying me and I would be flying alone.
My husband thought this to be a bit corny, but not me. How exciting it was to hail my first ever cab to the city. The taxi ride itself was long, but I was to busy to care, because I was taking in all of the sites like a vacuum. The true moment of the taxi ride came to be once we entered the city of Manhattan. The taxi driver was true to form by honking, speeding when allowed, and not caring if we cut off anyone during our drive. The traffic from the airport to the city was a big jumbled mess. I have never experienced traffic this bad before. I was so excited once our taxi man paid the toll to get into Manhattan. Paying that toll was like gaining access to a secret society. The city, it people and the buildings welcomed us with open arms.
My family and I were so excited that we didn't even sleep the night before. We spent our Thursday night watching movies and talking about what are plans were for the trip. Once the clock hit 4 o'clock in the morning , we left our house and were on our way to the airport. The airport was quiet and peaceful. I could smell the freshly brewed coffee once I set foot in the airport. We checked in, then waited patiently for our flight to board. Suddenly we heard on the overhead speaker, “Flight to New York, New York is now boarding, Flight to New York, New York now boarding.” Once we boarded the plane, we settled in and got comfy. The flight was fairly smooth with little turbulence and the sweet sound of babies crying filled my ears. Once we heard the pilot's voice telling the crew to prepare for landing, my excitement grew big.
It all started with the most exhilarating train ride ever. It was about four hours long, and we were going so fast that the world around me seemed non-existent. The trees were whizzing by so quick that I could hardly see what color they were. The food that was served melted in my mouth making me want more with every bite. Although I never wanted the train to stop, nothing could ever compare to what was awaiting my family and I when we stepped off the train. The aroma of the different types of food from a variety of places coming together to make my mouth water. Seeing the bustling streets of Paris filled with people as amazed as we were trying to take in the scenery that was so vast, it seemed like years before we could visit it all. I was so excited to see what awaited us in the days to come.
