My Definition of Success Essay

Success is a word that really hard to define, because everyone will have a different definition for this word. In fact, there no exact definition for the word "success". For a student, maybe the success means to pass all courses of the semester; for a business man, signing a importance contract and get a lot of money are successes; and for a president, leading the country to develop and make the people have a better life are success. For me, I also have my own definition for the word "success". When I was a kid, I really want to be a scientist, but after I become mature, my thinking has become more mature and my definition of success also

I define success as trying you're hardest no matter what and persevering through everything that you try. You may not get through the problem that you are having. Even though you didn't complete the challenge that you were having if you got as much out of the task that was placed in front of you, then you have succeeded. I also define success as when you set a goal for you're self or someone else sets a goal for you. If you reach that goal or go above that goal that was set, then you have succeeded. I believe that success is not just finishing you're work, test or challenge, if you finish it but do not do you're best and try you're hardest, then I believe that you are not successful in what you just did, but if you go as hard as you can, not

The definition of success is in the eye of the beholder. More than three-fourths of your life is spent working to become successful. People are told during childhood to work as hard as they can so they can grow up and make lots of money. But the word success can be taken in many different ways. Everyone has a different understanding of what success means to them. Generally, success means fulfilling the goals that you set for yourself. For some, success is measured by popularity and riches; for others success is determined by the amount of happiness that they feel.

Is that success? What or who defines success? Different people have different interpretations of what success means to them.

The definition of success differs from person to person. According to the “Poolside” Cadillac commercial, success is having a large house, nice family and a new car. How is that success accomplished? According to the mainstream media, success is achieved through hard work and perseverance. Not by taking extravagant vacations, or working for only a few hours a day. Success for others on the other hand could be having a large amount of free time. The media gives examples of what they think success is, but ultimately it’s up to the person to decide what is success is.

The meaning of "success" has numerous interpretations, whether it is your own or society's definition. Within Outliers author Malcolm Gladwell explains that being successful has nothing to do with what kind of person you are, so whether you are intelligent and hardworking or lazy and aloof, it depends on your circumstances growing up. Whether your parents happen to be immigrants, you are one of the smartest men in the country or you make a habit of practicing an activity for a certain amount of hours a day, your own personal success, according to Gladwell is defined by the conditions you grew up in; the idea of being successful varies from culture to culture, therefore, there is no definite meaning of success other than one's interpretation.

She also interviewed many CEO’s in her research and questioned them about their definition of successes. Ron Cordes the CEO of the Cordes foundation states his definition of success is, “To find and fully live your purpose in life, and to leave an enduring legacy of having made a difference in the world." Also E.N. Garnett Jr. who is just your average southern farmer says his definition is, “I define success as having a job that you enjoy and enables you financially, a spouse and family that loves and cares for you, children that make you proud by who they are and what they do, having the freedom to worship a loving God, and being able to contribute to the betterment of your fellow man. What is the real definition of success, in fact is there even a definition? Well, in the book Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell it is the story of success. Some successful people are born with talent, and skills. As others may have to put in hard work to get to where they are. Every successful person is different, which means there is no definition for being successful. Being successful is made of many different categories. Many successful people are born with talents, put in hard work, and are different from everyone else.

“Success” is a term that is a part of our daily life. It can be defined in a variety of ways, such as achievements, awards, and college degrees. Some will even deem success as having a family, having a well-paying job, or even feel that living an uncomplicated life of contentment. But in the world that we live in today, there is not a set definition of success to go by. Only you as a person can give the meaning of success.

To begin, many people define success as making a lot of money or having a really big house, but in reality it’s so much more than that. The world today commonly associates success with money, talent, and fame. Those who do not work hard or are just merely given such items like cars, clothes, jobs, fame, or houses are actually not very successful at all. For example, people like the Kardashian girls are viewed as gods by society today and have more money then anyone can think of. In reality, the Kardashians were just handed basically everything they now have today and are not successful in the sense of the word. They are not hardworking people who have endured failures and struggles during their lives due to being financially secure from their parents.

In his poem, “What is Success,” Ralph Waldo Emerson gave priceless insight when he wrote:

In this age in which we live, success is generally measured by the amount of money you earn, or the amount of wealth or power or number of promotions you’ve accumulated. I find that the older I grow, the more I view the people who are most happy and content with their lives as the most successful. Rich, poor or in between, they’ve tended to treat life as a journey, not a final destination. They took that trip when they were 25 even though they really couldn’t afford it, they ordered the $55 bottle of wine with their filet because they knew that even though it was expensive it would enhance the meal so much more than water would. They took a chance on a start-up company, moved to Europe or Asia and experienced things that most people only dream about. If they managed to grow wealthy from the experience, so much the better. As long as moderation with most things is practiced, things won’t spin out of control.

What is success? Is it the process of doing a task and receiving a positive result acceptable amongst the community, or is it simply achieving ones own personal goals? Success to me can mean many things. Although I am successful in school, that does not necessarily mean I will lead a successful life.

As an eighteen year old, the term of success has been used in many different contexts. Although, we tend to define success as a person who has made millions or someone who has broken down barriers for the next generation, however, have we been leaving out the most important part of success? Does being successful guarantee your happiness? Does it replace those lonely nights? Does success replace those sleepless nights? Does it replace the friends you have lost along your path? In my opinion, it does not. Success cannot be determined merely based off of comparisons with another person. In fact, I am a firm believer in do what makes you happy because everyone else is temporary in our lives. My definition of success is based on self happiness because if you cannot be happy with yourself how can you bless others?

Most people commonly describe success, as being wealthy in life. This is not the meaning entirely, the definition of success is simple. A person is successful, if he or she has very good payment at his or her work and if he or she is happy with the job, they are doing. Education really leads to success. If a person has good education, he or she can choose their careers and be successful at it. Education is a form of learning in which the knowledge and skills is being transferred from a group of people to another or from a generation to the next, through teaching and training. Any experience that has a formative effect on the way someone thinks feels and acts can be said to be educational. Apart from education, other different traits lead
