Museum Visit: The Ella Sharp Museum Though I very deeply wanted to attend the either the Kelsey Museum of Archeology or the Natural History Museum in Ann Arbor, I unfortunately was not able to make the trip to either of these fine museums. I was however able to visit the wonder Ella Sharp Museum right here in Jackson. I was skeptical that I would find anything related to the ancient history era or anything else that we had studied at class, I did happen to stumble upon a stunning pair of stained glass window murals! Though these Victorian Era painted windows didn’t come from the Medieval or Gothic Eras, I believe that the origin of this style of window art is justifiable to talk about given the resemblance to the painted glass of the previously
The name of the museum that I chose is The Henry Ford, located on 20900 Oakwood Blvd, Dearborn, MI 48124 The website for the Henry Ford is https://www.thehenryford.org/. Henry Ford museum is well known for automobile and agricultural art exhabits. Henry ford car was first invention of transportation and the museum still holds the example of it to show the visitors how the world is developing. Some of the exhibits for farming are the steam tractor, manure spreader and harvesting corps that were built in 19th century in order to making farming easy. There are many other exhibits that tells story of the people and life style of 19th century. One that touched my heart is the Rosa Parks bus because she has to go to jail for fighting for her civil
My Humanities Art Experience took place at the Columbus, GA Museum, located on Wynnton Road. I really enjoyed my experience at the museum. It was my first time visiting an American museum. I saw many pieces of fine art, some of which I will list below.
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum publically showcases Mrs. Gardner's collection in the greater Boston area. Each room functions as a chapter of a pilgrimage. When one travels through various countries and time periods, one inevitably ends up in a gallery built in the imitation of a chapel, and subsequently the Gothic room. In this paper, I will examine the Gothic room's theme in relation to the placement of its objects. I will also evaluate the room's strengths and challenges in serving the public, and how the conventions employed in this room contribute to the general accessibility of the museum.
On September 2nd I took a trip to the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory in Atlanta. The museum included many art exhibits from ancient cultures around the world. Including pieces from South America, Greece, and Egypt with larger exhibits as well as African and Asian cultures with smaller exhibits.
Over the weekend, I took the time to explore two museums. The first museum I visited was the D.I.A , also known as the Detroit Institute of Arts. The D.I.A was a very beautiful, multicultural, and unique place. I also took the time to visit and explore the Charles H. Wright Museum of Detroit. Luckily, these museums weren’t too far from each other they were roughly 5-7 minutes apart. The Charles H. Wright Museum was also very beautiful, it was more appealing to me because it is a museum that exhibits and highlights the history of the African American culture. The Charles H. Wright museum also happens to be the largest African American museum in the world.

The Lauren Rogers Museum is located in Laurel, Mississippi and was built in 1923. One unique characteristic about this museum is that has the Georgian Revival Style, which means if you were to cut the museum down the middle in equal halves each side would be identical. While touring the Lauren Rodgers Museum there were two separate collections that caught my eye. These collections consisted of the American and European collection. The American collection focuses primarily on portraiture. In the American Collection I chose a painting by Jean MacLane called The Chintz Chair. MacLane was born on September 14, 1878 and died on January 23, 1964 in New Canaan, Connecticut. One of MacLane’s first studies was at an Art Institute in Chicago with John Vanderpoel. “ MacLane and her husband, artist John C. Johansen (1876-1964) help found the National Foundation of Portrait Painters in 1912” (Jean 2015). The year of 1912 was considered to be MacLane’s biggest year because she was recognized for many different awards. MacLane depicted the Allied Leaders from W.W.I., provided the only female subject, Queen Elisabeth of Belgian, and also became an associate member of the National Academy of Design. The main items that MacLane incorporates into her portraits are women and their children. “In 1931, she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letter” (Jean 2015). The picture that I chose from the American Collection by Jean McLane demonstrates a mother sitting in a chair
On July 15, 2016 I visited the Isabel Anderson Comer Museum and Arts Center in Sylacauga, AL. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, tranquil, enlightening, and reflective. I had a few sensory experiences which were hearing because of the sound the wood floors creaking as you walked through and the fact that it was so quiet you could hear the traffic right outside, sight because of all the many different displays of artwork and displays, and smell because of the almost overwhelming odor that I couldn’t pin point. There was one woman working there but she was in the basement cleaning up from an event from the night previous. The woman gave a brief introduction and rushed back off into the basement so I didn’t get a change to get her name. My overall
The museum that I decided to visit was the California African American museum, located in the Exposition park by the Coliseum and USC school. I knew that by visiting this museum, I would learn more about African American culture and lifestyle, which I thought it would be interesting to learn about another culture. What, I expected to see there was African American’s art creation, music, maybe see a few things about their old lifestyle, and the difficulty they once had to face. To be honest, I don't really know much about African Americans history nor culture, besides the way they were treated it due to racism. And how Martin Luther king Jr fought for their civil rights, by doing anti-segregation protests and delivers his famous speech I Have
For the History Museum paper, we took a trip to the Penn Museum in Philadelphia. It was interesting that the tour guide asked who has been there before and I was only one of three people who raised their hand. Nobody knowing I was born and raised in Philadelphia, I have been to the Penn Museum only once when I was younger. I was actually pretty excited to go again and see what has changed since I have been there.
I found this field trip to be not only informative, but a fascinating insight into the Cherokee culture. Everything was so authentic and the people who were in charge of the museum and events seemed so passionate about teaching others the history of the Cherokees. Getting to see and talk to people who still uphold their native traditions and keep the culture alive was amazing. From the demonstrations of traditional games, to learning how to make pots from natural materials, I really got a sense of what it was like to live in a Cherokee village. Not only the visual aspect was inspiring, but they way they talked about their heritage and how proud they were to call themselves Cherokee was amazing. There was a true sense of family and community that was an
I learned a lot from this trip. It was an unforgettable moment. I loved that Mr. Bierly presented all the pieces then for a person who was the first time visited a museum, I felt that was the best and even for others then already had been in one .I am very sure, it was better and more instructive. I liked that we could have our time to explore more pieces then tried to apply what Mr. Bierly taught in class. One thing that I experienced in the trip, while he was explaining each pieces of art, I was able to understand then apply my knowledge on it. I really enjoyed time in the
The Grand Rapids Public Museum is a wonderful museum full of exhibits that both the young and the old can enjoy. There are not very many paintings hung throughout the public corridors. This was a little dissatisfying for someone who not only is looking to write a paper about a visual piece of art, but also for someone who enjoys looking deep into the paintings story. Luckily, I had already
This immersive historical experience tells the full story of the most notable aviatrix the world has ever known. She was a best selling author, founder of the female aviation organization the Ninety Nines, and the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Earhart is of course most notable for her Perdue funded attempt to circumnavigate the globe in her Lockheed Model 10 Electra, which she of course did not complete and has been the subject of much speculation after her disappearance. This home of her birth was her grandparents when she was born there in 1897.
This was actually my first visit to this museum since I have gone to Kennesaw. My expectations were pretty high initially upon going, because I have heard so many things about it from my peers. Just by their opinions, and my love for art I have myself, I was actually excited about going in to take a look. I must say, I was not disappointed by any of the art work I saw in there. I really enjoyed the exhibit of work from some students from a high school around this area. It really shows that the college really supports the youth of the future and their passion for art as a whole.
