One call to the police could save a life. For instance, Hugo Tale-Yax is but one example of a life that could have been saved if one person had called the police. Mr. Tale-Yax was a homeless person who was just trying to show an act of kindness. He witnessed a woman being attacked on the side of the street and during his attempt to try to help the woman he was stabbed in the chest. He staggered down the street desperate for someone to help him. Nevertheless, since everyone had failed to come to his aid he fell to the floor and lay there in a puddle of blood. More than 25 people walked past him on this busy New York street, but not a single one tried to help. Tale-Yax would still be with us today. Was it because Mr. Tale-Yax was homeless that people didn't stop to help? Homeless people are still people. It shouldn't matter what race, ethnicity, or social class a person is in. Everyone deserves to be helped in a time of danger. The Good Samaritan law should be put in place to prevent situations such as Mr. Tale-Yax’s from happening in the future. However, if the law is put into action it would require a few alterations. People shouldn’t be required to help physically. In my opinion, everyone who owns a cellular device should be required by law to contact the police in any dangerous situation. A person’s own morals and their mental state should allow them to decide for themselves whether or not they think they should step in and help. Most people today find it easier and are more comfortable dialing a number on their cell phone than to walk up to a stranger and do something kind that could potentially save their
