Within our daily lives we encounter multiple people who make an impact on us. They influence us to be better at what we do and show us that having an opinion helps us stand out from others. Throughout life we encounter these individuals and learn about past people who have had a great effect on people showing us what a true hero is. The late Martin Luther King Jr. is a hero in the eyes of people due to the fact that he spoke his mind as a social activist, risked his life to end segregation, and stood up for what he believed was right during the civil rights movement. Within his boycott days King was arrested, his home was bombed, he was personally abused, but still managed to emerge as an African American leader. He became president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, which exhibited leadership for the civil rights movement, marking his dedication to better the lives for his people. Over years he delivered multiple speeches wherever there was injustice, protest, and action. He contributed by leading massive protests and peaceful marches that grabbed the attention of the entire world. In the spring of 1963, during his peaceful march on Washington, D.C., he delivered his address, “I Have a Dream” speech that touched thousands around him. "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character" (Martin Luther King Jr. “I Have a Dream”). This memorable statement opened the eyes of the thousands of people staring upon King. These spoken words persuaded individuals to help shape their communities into an advanced scene that acknowledged people on who they are as an individual, thus marking another reason for him being a hero of words for the people. Although many have multiple reasons and evidence that Martin Luther King Jr. should be considered a hero others criticize him and doubt the possibility of him truly being a hero. He was personally
