Martin Luther King Jr.: A Hero

Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the most iconic, influential characters in American history to this day. Since his assassination in 1968, King’s legacy has lived on in the hearts of Americans. We have even set aside a day of the year (third monday in January) to honor his courageous efforts to make this world a better place. The reasoning behind the word “courageous” in the previous sentence is because in the time that King was making his campaign, oppression of the African American race was still painfully real. A hero is a person who is admired for his/her qualities or achievements. Heroes are brave and influential figures who perform selfless deeds to others. These role models give everything and expect nothing in return. An extraordinary/courageous hero named Jackie Robinson is an important individual/leader who has left a positive effect on the world.

Everyone respects him a lot and he was a brave man to keep on playing baseball. Though people think Jackie Robinson is not a hero, but others do because he did lots of amazing things that led other black people to play any sport they wanted.

What is a hero? You may think a hero is someone who saves the world like Superman or Batman, but a hero is a lot more then that. People like Jackie Robinson, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King Jr. are the real heroes, that we should look up to, not the superheroes that we see on movies. They're the ones who made the world a better place to live on.

What is a hero? A quote from Maya Angelou perfectly captures the answer; stating that, “I [Maya Angelou] think that a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people.” Heroes are people who promote change for the better, acting selflessly and ethically to help support the wellbeing of all - regardless of their race, ethnicity, age, gender, or status.

What exactly is a hero? To some it’s a fictional character with a cape who possesses a special power that helps them do great things for others; and to others it a completely different story. To me, a hero is someone who has made a good difference on not just my life, but others as well and has inspired us to never give up, to better ourselves, and to try and live life to the fullest. For example, Josh Hamilton, he has made a big difference and has had a good impact on my life in probably every aspect you can think of and not only that, but he has shown me that you can always get back up and fight, you can always overcome your life’s obstacles, also he has shown me that you should always have your faith in the Lord.

What instills courage, selflessness, and humility in a person? Certain events and people in the beginning of a person’s life shape their character for the rest of their existence. MLK, otherwise known as Martin Luther King, Jr., was presented with a dilemma, fight for his freedom or stay hushed. He chose to fight for his rights. The revolutionary man thought of a way to fight for his freedom without breaking the unfair rules forced upon him and his followers. This ingenius idea of protesting without violence, was only the first of many that would change the world forever. MLK was a great influence on the whole world, here are some events that shaped him into the revolutionary man that fought for freedom for all.

To begin a hero to me is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements and noble qualities. A good example of a hero will be Martin Luther King Jr famous speech, “I Have a Dream” impacted millions of Americans throughout the years and goes to show that with hard work, bravery, persistence, and many other qualities, anything is possible. This is why Martin Luther King Jr. stood out to me as a very important influential hero.

Some people think you must be famous to be a hero. I think most people who are true heroes will never have their stories told; they are ordinary people who do extraordinary things. A hero is a person who inspires others and has the courage to stand up for what is right. The word hero is derived from the Greek word heros, meaning: “man of superhuman strength or physical courage.” This meaning has evolved from its association with mythological figures to denote a person who is admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Although heroes can be very different, they all do great things for others.

What is a hero? Many heroes have emerged throughout history, and are remembered by the actions and sacrifice they have done for what is right. Martin Luther King Jr was a courageous hero who had the willingness to help shape better lives for all deserving blacks in America and always did more to make sure that equality would stand firmly for more generations to come. King was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 15, 1929. Early on King was enrolled in the Morehouse College then went on to Boston University in 1951. On the December of 1955-1956 King made one of his first significant contribution to the discrimination dispute by being the representative of the Montgomery Bus Boycott in Montgomery, Alabama. Heroes are people who sacrifice their own life to save another’s, “hero” is a title given to those who have sacrificed something of their own, just so that another would be happier. A hero should be selfless, whether it be fictional or a hero that affected the world that we live on. Such heroes would be someone like Abraham Lincoln, Abraham was a someone who made history, he was a someone who's actions still affect our lives to this day.

I believe a hero is a person that strives to do better for those who look up to them. Being a hero is not about the attention but the positivity you bring. A hero is someone who is able to overcome numerous obstacles without always wanting to quit or give up. Heroes are people that are able to prove that they are confident and brave to those around them. Helen Keller was one of the first handicapped people to rise above all the complications she faced. Her care for others as well as herself lead her to a well respected lifestyle.

Many people have their own definition for a hero. For me, a hero is someone who always put others first and always there to help even when times might be hard for them. A hero is someone like Ed Young. My grandpa is my role model and someone I really look up to. Ed lives in Jamestown, ND and is always helping out the community and his neighbors even when he is going through difficult times. One of the times that he was really a hero was in the last few years when my grandma was very sick for years and when she passed away last fall. Those years were extremely hard on my grandpa, but he still managed to worry about all the people around him.
