Martin was born on January 15, in 1929, in Atlanta. He was born into a very disciplined, respected and well balanced family. Both of his parents tried hard to protect their kids from being exposed to racism, but it was impossible. Martin’s dad (Martin King Sr) fought against racism and segregation as he thought it was against God’s wishes. This is what inspired Martin to follow his dad’s path to fighting for equality and against separation. As Martin grew up, he began to work ahead of all the other students at school. He skipped the 9th and 11th grade and began college as young as 15 years old. He earned a sociology degree and was starting on his doctorate degree when he met his wife. When she refused to give up her seat to a white man, as all the seats were full, Claudette was thrown in jail. In December of the same year, another colored female, Rosa Parks, refused to give up her seat as well. She was also put in jail and was fined. The NAACP met with Martin and other activists for civil rights, and planned a boycott. That’s when Martin was chosen to be the leader of the plan. After over 300 days of fighting back against segregated public transportation, the law was lifted and colored people could not be thrown in jail for refusing to give up their seat. In 1963, Martin and the NAACP planned a march, starting at the lincoln memorial. This march was planned to be a peaceful, nonviolent protest against the segregation that was still taking place. President Kennedy encouraged the march, however, ordered authorities to make sure security within the crowd was ensured. Before the protest, Martin gave his famous “I Have A Dream” speech. His dream included having sons of former slaves and sons of former slave owners being able to sit down together at the “table of brotherhood.” His speech became the most powerful and famous speech in the
