Introduction
Malcolm X is seen as quite a controversial person. His admirers see him as a courageous human rights activist who campaigned for the rights of African Americans and showed white America how racist it was. His enemies see him as a racist, anti-Semitic and violent person.
Malcolm X was orphaned early in life. At the age of six his father was killed and it has been rumoured that white racists were responsible. Seven years later his mother passed away after which he lived in a series of foster homes.
At the age of 20 in 1946 he was sentenced to prison for larceny and breaking and entering. During his time in prison he joined the Nation of Islam and after being released in 1952 he became one of its leaders. He was the …show more content…

He was called "Detroit Red" because of the reddish hair he inherited from his Scottish maternal grandfather. Little was declared "mentally disqualified for military service" after he told draft board officials he wanted to be sent down south to "organize them nigger soldiers ... steal us some guns, and kill us [some] crackers".
In late 1945, Little returned to Boston, where he and four accomplices committed a series of burglaries targeting wealthy white families. In 1946, he was arrested while picking up a stolen watch he had left at a shop for repairs, and in February began serving an eight-to-ten year sentence at Charlestown State Prison for larceny and breaking and entering.

His Achievements
Malcolm achieved many things while he was alive such as:
Becoming a minister at three of the Nation of Islam’s mosques.
Founding the Nation of Islam’s newspaper, Muhammad Speaks.
Participating in numerous debates including forums on radio stations (Los Angeles, New York, Washington), television programs ("Open Mind," "The Mike Wallace News Program") and universities (Harvard Law School, Howard University, Columbia University).
Becoming the second most sought after speaker in the United States in 1963.
Befriending boxer Cassius Clay who decides to convert to Islam and change is name to Muhammad Ali.
Forming the Muslim Mosque, Inc.
Organizing the Organisations of the Afro-American Unity (OAAU).
