People always think that they should be gifted a successful life however, in reality success is only earned. The attitude of earning success is almost impossible to find in today's world. However, I consider that I share a similar belief that success is always earned. In view of that, I think that I should be considered for the Robert and Luella Breitner Scholarship because of my unrelenting will to always work hard to achieve success. In fact, over the last four years of my life, I’ve seen myself more determined than ever to carry out the goals that I set for myself, such as graduating from college. In these past four years of high school, I have proven to many that my work ethic is second to none. For example, I have kept a 4.0 grade point average while taking college level classes. This characteristic of mine has driven me to work hard to succeed in school and towards my obligations …show more content…
I am referring to the level of perseverance that I possess. Since the last two years in high school, I have noticed that I can surpass any difficulties that have come my way, notably my junior year as class president. In my first year, I was confronted with a great deal of issues all ranging from organizing events like prom too working with an unmotivated class. Fortunately, I was able to unite the class which allowed them to work well together and certainly this did not go unnoticed because I was re-elected for senior year. Now it doesn’t seem like much, but for me it was difficult as it was my first year as president and I had been immediately thrusted into it. Despite this and all the complications that arose with it, I was able to be persevere through the endless challenges that I faced as class president. What's important to note from all of this is that my determination to persevere will allow me to accomplish any desire that I
As I read through the most influential nurses in history the late Mary Breckenridge caught my eye. I find her story very intriguing and the contributions she made in nursing touch close to my heart. In 1925 she founded Frontier Nursing Services, which initially provided care to women and children in the desolate poverty-ridden eastern Kentucky. Breckenridge and other midwives she recruited would travel in all types of treacherous weather via horseback or on foot through the Appalachian Mountains to provide professional prenatal care and assist deliveries. Care was provided to women and children who once had no resources other than family and nearest neighbors. No woman was ever denied services; fees were very low and clients could use the barter
Four SMART Goals regarding my courses, and degree efforts that I would make is to have a final grade of an A for each course taken, finish my degree within two and a half years, make it Connecticut to walk across the stage for graduation, and obtain a master’s degree in Human Services. I feel like if I don’t push myself to succeed, no one else will. Aiming for the final course grade of an A is attainable if I put in the effort and dedication it takes to pass each course. For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to obtain a college degree. Now that I am older I feel as if I should push myself a little further and not only set out to obtain a degree, but to graduate Cum Laude at the least. That is my ultimate goal. Finishing my degree within two and a half
I am not trying to achieve anyone else's ideal of success, but my own. As an American, from a young age, we are brainwashed in the idea that we can achieve anything we set our minds to. Easier said than done. Attaining a college or professional degree is society’s guideline to becoming successful. We are not taught the cost of following our dreams. We are not taught that success should be personal and not institutional. Well, at least I wasn’t taught these things. We are basically doing well in school, to be successful enough to pay off school. My first two years of high school were not the best academically, and now I am working harder than ever to conceal those years. I can not remove those years, but I can show improvement. I am trying to the best of my abilities to maintain my grades, get great test scores, become a better dancer and overall be a conscientious, productive, socially aware citizen. Unconsciously, my whole life I have been conforming to society's definition of successful in one way or another. However, I have came to the conclusion that society's idea of successful is quite similar to
Laura Bridgman is known to be the first deaf and blind American to get an education and English-language. She was born on December 21, 1829 in Etna, New Hampshire. Her parents Daniel and Harmony Bridgman were farmers When was two years old she became very sick with scarlet fever and end up losing her hearing, taste, sight, and smell.
As a first generation student, academic promise hasn’t always been a focus of mine until my high school years. Coming from a family where the only post-high school education is whatever training you receive at work, it is hard to relate when the possibility of university is so far away. Four years after high school, I have not only worked full time but also received my associates degree from my hometown community college. That is all great thanks to the family that have raised me, and taught me that hard work is the only work capable of doing. My parents never had the opportunity to attend college, so they taught me what they knew in life instead; where manners are always required, hard work is mandatory, and when finished with that work; you
Between working on homework for many hours into the night and staying after school to get help from teachers, I accomplished and exceeded my goal of doing well in advanced classes. I knew that in the long run my hard work would pay off, but it would also continue helping me in my daily life. Since I chose to make these decisions, I have become a very dedicated, scholarly, and hard working student. Due to these characteristics, I have been able to accomplish many other goals in life, such as pushing myself to learn multiple musical instruments, competing for all conference in track and field against girls twice my size, and receiving leads in many theatre productions. All of these achievements were reached due to the skills I learned while pushing myself to do better throughout my academic career. In the future, I will be able to better achieve my goals and aspirations as a result of my successful years in high school. I now plan to push myself to excel in college, as well as in a future career, all thanks to the effort and dedication I put into my hard work in high
I am a hardworking individual that strives to reach my goals to the best of my abilities. Hard work is a strength I have which inclines me to get my work done to my greatest capability. Leadership is also a great strength of mine, and I showcase this through leading by example and by motivating those that surround me. Throughout my time in HSB, I have had to work with meeting many deadlines, which I found to be difficult at times. However, my high ambitions motivate me to dedicate time and efforts to meet these deadlines, so that I will reach my ultimate goal of graduating the University of Calgary with a degree in Bachelor of Commerce.
I worked my butt off my entire high school career to get to the point I always dreamed of, which was attending college. I knew I had to go extra so I set high expectations for myself. My goal was to achieve at least a 3.5 GPA in the first semester. I was off to a great start too. With my assignments I worked ahead on everything, sometimes weeks ahead of time. Everything I did went the extra mile. No one could pay me to go out or even take a break while I was into my studies. I knew what I wanted for
Throughout high school, I made sure to challenge myself. I played all types of sport, joined various international school trips, became a member of Student Council and the National Honor Society, and ended my high school career with seven AP classes. Consequently I met the triumph of my dreams, with the influence of two magnificent people. My dad is the hardest working man I know, who has taught me determination and grit. My mom, a woman with her own personal learning struggles, taught me to never give up, to stand back up no matter how hard I fall, as failure is the ultimate way to gain experience and knowledge. I would not have succeeded the workload without
My parents always told me that if you desire to excel in life that you have to work hard in everything you complete. This made a major impact on my work ethic. It shows me that nothing in life is handed to you and if you really want it you will put the effect into obtaining it. This makes me motivated to grasp opportunities through my hard work. That being said, if I continue to strive to reach my goals for my career, I will gain so many opportunities. The opportunities could be better finances, jobs, travel, and more. Then I would know that all my effects were for a worthy cause. In addition, it will make me strive for more success. Hard work is the tool that helps me make my way through life by my effect
When I started elementary school my parents said to me “Try your best”. They have continued to say this ever since only, in high school, it changed to “Aim high and try your best”. I did aim high and I did try my best. I took their advice, and it has paid off for me so far, and now I’m telling myself the same thing for college and my career. Academic success does not come easily to me. I have had to work long hard hours to keep my grades up. But I’m willing to do it, so I think my goal of a career in healthcare will take some effort, but it is within reach.
I believe perseverance is an innate quality that is tapped into, not everyone is naturally perseverant. Many people just skate by in life, they do not try for things, and they just give up before giving any kind of concentrated effort. When life gets tough for people, or they feel they are in over their heads, they just give up without question. So many people let life control them rather than control their own life, and no matter how hard things have gotten or if I have found myself in a less than ideal situation I force myself to get back up without question. People are shaped when they are in the process of picking themselves up, and the greatest learning experiences are from falling down, not being at the top, and truly perseverant
Throughout my years of high school, I have proven to be extremely hardworking. Since graduating eighth grade, I have worked endlessly to obtain money to support my schooling. My mother is a single mom, struggling to pay for my Catholic school education. I have continued to help to pay for some of the many expenses that come with my schooling. I will be paying entirely for my college tuition, which is what I have worked so hard for. My work experience and education have helped me to become the determined and hardworking person that I am today.
Any tragic moment could potentially rip our hopes and dreams out of our grip. Perseverance is a characteristic. It cannot be adopted, perseverance is everlasting. Throughout our everyday lives, we find ourselves being pushed down and sacrificed for the pleasure of others. We see our hard work demolished and our efforts unseen. We ask ourselves, ‘what keeps us going?’, ‘how can we do it?’. It’s the “choice to continue an effort to achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition” (Perseverance). Perseverance is a decision to change: not because we want to, but because we have to; due to hardship. Nothing in life will flow freely, but we can decide to work through the darkness and difficulties. This term, used in everyday life,
Throughout my life, I’ve realized my definition of success has been through achieving my goals to serve others and ultimately never stop learning. My work ethic and character traits have contributed to reaching my goals in high school and will prepare me for the future.
