On Your Own For this POW, we are trying to make a plan financially for life after high school. I am making a budget based on an estimated income based on my desired job and all expenses that people living on their own have to pay now. I am researching any expenses I will have to pay later in life and factoring them into my budget.
For my job I have selected to be an electrician. Straight out of high school base pay would start at a salary of $55,000/year before tax. After tax reduction I will have an estimated $48,067/year of bring-home income. I found this job on a job board for high paying jobs with only a high school diploma required, it wasn’t the highest paying job, but it fit my interests and had decent pay. My hours would be a normal 8 hour day except instead of the average 9-5 I would work more so somewhere around 7 am to 3 pm. I will sometimes have to start at 7 and not get off until 5 depending on when I finish my last scheduled job. For any overtime work after the scheduled time of a job, the average rate would be about $30.00/hour past the scheduled time of the job.

I would live in Miami because I have always dreamed of living in Florida and my roommates and I found a very reasonably priced apartment in Miami. Our apartment has 2 bedrooms and the rent is $284/month per person. The apartment does have a large security deposit fee of $3000 due to the amount of furniture included in the apartment. This will be split among the three of us and we will each pay $1000 before moving in. This will only be paid once though. Although the apartment is furnished, I would estimate roughly $1000 for extra
Public schools help students become prepared for society until the day they graduate from high school. Over the years, students do not continue since they do not feel that they are prepared for college and decided to earn a low-paying job instead. Therefore, more students are either dropping out of high school or not attempting to enroll in college to improve their education.
After high school I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do for a career. After years of wandering I decided to join the military. I completed basic training and technical school in Texas. I was miles away from the comfort of family and friend back home in Maryland. This was the first time that I was truly on my own. After training was complete I was moved to Spokane, Washington. where I completed my term in Spokane and it was time to reenlist or get out the military. I was ready to have my life back so I decided against enlisting for another term. When it was time for me to discharge the first question everyone asked me was “where I going?”. In my mind I had two choices. I was either going stay in tiny Spokane or go back home to Maryland. I spent a few weeks thinking about my options and at that time I was certain home was the best choice. Moving back home made sense for several reasons:
“Life After High School” by Joyce Carol Oates is a brilliant demonstration of the tragedy that follows when individuals refuse to be true to themselves. The protagonist, Sunny Burhman, must reconcile her high status and the ensuing idolization of her character with the pursuit of her hand in marriage by the antagonist, Zachary Graff, whom she does not love. As Zachary presents her with a ring, she finally realizes that she no longer can lead him on; she rejects him. He commits suicide as a result, and Sunny assumes she was the solo motive for his actions, though it is later revealed she was not. Consequently, she draws upon the reader’s pity by renouncing her cheery demeanor and devoting her life to accomplishments rather than the pursuit of
After graduating high school mostly everyone has both high hopes and dreams, people whom have high hopes for the career life ahead of them seem to run into manys different obstacles along the way. After graduating high school I finally came to a conclusion of what I wanted to do with my life. My senior year in high school not only did my hopes change multiple times they also changed tremendously. One of the biggest obstacles that I ran into or that I face everyday is my cell phone. My cell phone is my biggest issue when it comes to anything its almost like its impossible for me to put it down. With social media being as big as it is today my head seems to stay in either instagram or snapchat 98% of the day. rather than my phone I seem to run
The more June use her abilities, the more it consumes her humanity. Her abilities may give her a higher intellect and psychic control, but the severe drawback of her abilities is an enhance-sexual-perversion. The risk of losing her mind over to her inner- dark-sexual-desire is coming nearer in each passing days.
A decision that will last a lifetime my parents had to make was a name between Alexis and Malori. I was four days away from being Alexis. I am Malori Kristine VonTobel and active within the school. I participate in Sunshine Society, Student Council, Pep Club, Knitting Club, Drama Club, volleyball, cheerleading, and swimming. Being this active and still having time to complete my senior project shows how determined I am with anything I do.
On a regular school day, in my writing class, our writing teacher told us that we had an assignment to do. But it was a challenge. Our assignment was that we had to write an 1000 word essay about how and after our high school years is gonna be. Whether it's gonna be good or bad. But he wasn't done explaining, he also said "whoever has the best essay, will win the scholarship. The winner will be announced at the promotion. Good luck to all of you and you may begin writing." While everybody was writing, i just sat there. I didn't want to write an 1000 word essay. Are you nuts? But i had no choice but to write the darn essay.
We reside in high school for four short years. To some four years seems a lifetime, but for a highschooler, four years couldn’t feel any shorter. And in my four years I can tell you what remained true; if you’re running late, take your time because you’re late either way and your gpa does not decide your destiny but most importantly, you are in charge of your future. These all turned out to be truths because we don’t know what we’ll be doing tomorrow, for some of us even in the next couple hours. Not having a 4.00 gpa doesn’t mean that you’re gonna spend your adult years scrubbing toilets at Mcdonalds. We spend so much time worrying about our futures and sometimes neglect the things that keep us sane. So I guess what i’m trying to say is that we all need to chill.
I am fortunate enough to have born into a healthy middle class family. I have never had to worry about not having enough food on the table, or getting the electricity cut off. I still have all four of my grandparents and live in a safe neighborhood. My life has, thankfully, been easy so far. I have never had to make huge, life changing decisions. Well, that is until now, with college and my life after high school quickly approaching.
Transition planning is a team effort. The student’s participation in planning is important including asking them what their interest are and what they would like to do after finishing high school. In the case of Paulo, he is an 18 year old boy with a cognitively mild disability and autism. He communicates through adaptive sign language and gestures and is understood by his family and teachers. His family is involved in his education and transition planning. His family intends to have Paulo live with them and then with one of his siblings. Paulo enjoys working in the grocery store when at school but has some issues with accepting correction.
If I had an hour to myself it would be called the Christen hour. I would start by taking about 10 min to just sit and think about how I can be a better person and how I can help myself with all of the stuff I’ve been going through .Then, I would think about what I would do after I graduate from 8th grade. I would think about what high school has the subjects that can help me in my collage years. For example, I want to be a lawyer. Picking a high school that provides good history, like, East High School, that provides fantastic history courses. I’m not sure other high schools would help me in my pre-law college courses. Don’t get me wrong other high school history classes may be good but, I just have a better feeling about East
Over the course of four years of high school the question that I hear most is "What do you want to do after high school?". Well after a lot of decision making I have decided that after high school I am going to continue working my job at Safeway and go to Pierce College for two years. I am hoping that two years at Pierce College will help me find a career I am passionate about and want to further my education in. After I get done with my two years at Pierce I plan on transferring to either Eastern Washington University or Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. Financially, I plan on paying for Pierce by getting a student loan, paying a little bit of tuition out of pocket, and I also plan on applying to get a second job for the summer
There comes a time in every adolescent 's life in which reality begins to strike them. From an adults perspective this early stage is viewed simply as immaturity. Starting high school was a big change in my life and was a step in the direction of young adulthood. As individuals around me attempted to navigate down that similar path I gained a crisp taste of my identity. All of a sudden what was once a long distance future evolved into the near future as high school years passed and a test of my character was close at hand. I had to start thinking about college, my future, and who I really wanted to be. When a reality check was brought upon me I began realizing that I am the only one that can determine my future, and that numerous factors in my control will be responsible for how my goals and ambitions are pursued. In addition to that, the choices that I choose to make in the next few years will determine how my life plays out. Slowly but surely I began realizing I also began realizing that the people around me won 't always have the same intelligence, ambitions, and goals that I do but, choosing to use that as a driving force towards success is the only option I seem to have left.
For many high school students, happiness is caused by academic success. Students who do well in school are better able to make the transition into adulthood. Life after high school is **strenuous and it requires a lot of effort in order to succeed in it. High school teaches students how to write an essay and solve math problems, however, the major lesson students acquire from high school is preparation for the future. According to a school website, “teens who practice good time management have less stress and also have more balance and success in other areas of their lives (sports, social life, work, etc.).” Time management skills are taught throughout high school. For instance, students are expected to manage their time by getting to class on time and finishing all of their homework on time. If students are not ***solemnly putting an effort in school, then this skill will not be refined. Being academically successful allows students to manage their time wisely. Therefore, they are more prepared for the adult world where they would have to manage job and college. Many students who are doing well in school can handle the workload. One of the most arduous task students find when they go to college is the amount of workload thrown at them. According to an educational website, “The transition to college is a major awakening for students who struggled during high school or who got by without effective study or learning habits.” Students who do well academically in high school are
Senior year is a big year, the year when you have a lot of last firsts, having to apply for colleges and having to decide what you want to do with your life after high school. It's the year to surely remember and is very important. I have a lot of goals this year that I hope to achieve, but there are also things that I am worried about.
