Courage is defined as the power or the quality of dealing with or facing danger, fear, and pain. There is the courage of one’s convictions and the confidence to act in accordance with one’s beliefs. To take one’s courage in both hands, to nerve oneself to perform an action. There is the courage of mind, disposition, and spirit. Katniss should have been listed in the definition as well. She embodies the entire definition of courage. Courage is a strength of character that allows us the will to face our fears. In The Hunger Games, the unwilling heroine, Katniss, has fears that are physical, psychological, and existential. The aggressive presence of the threatening tribute Cato relates to her physical fear, her psychological fear of intimacy with Peeta, and the fear of her own death in the Games. Katniss is brilliant and resourceful, along with her physical strength, and her skill with the bow, these all allowed her to outsmart the other tributes. She has a lot of support throughout the Games – Haymitch and sponsors, the downtrodden District 12 cheering for her, and her fellow tributes that save her (Peeta, Rue, and Thresh). Katniss also has her stylist Cinna, who acts like a personal life coach. In the novel “The Hunger Games” Suzanne Collins conveys the qualities of a hero through the main character Katniss Everdeen. The novel is based around a dystopian nation, in which is placed in Panem. Through which a boy and a girl from each district must take part in ‘The Hunger Games’ where they have to fight to the death, until there is one survivor. Katniss subsequently evolves as a significant hero portraying the heroic qualities such as selflessness, identity change and intelligence. Selflessness is shown as she puts others before herself, her identity changes as she has to put up a brave face, and intelligence is displayed as her strategies progress in the games.

Taylor's Roll of thunder, Cassie faces discrimination she shows courage for standing up for blacks rights. Her family and all African Americans are treated unfairly because of the color of their skin. She stands up for her convictions and doesn’t change her convictions. She showed courage when she stood up to Mrs. Crocker, Lillian Jean, and Mr. Barnett at the mercantile. She had a lot of things that she didn’t understand at the time.

Katniss shares a strong connection with a few other characters in the film some of them being Cinna, Rue, Haymitch and finally Peeta whom she bonds with the most and makes the audience believe they are in love. She shows a strong connection with Rue when the team up together to take out the big supply of food and equipment that was protected by the tributes that were the biggest threat. When Rue was killed by a spear through the chest Katniss honoured her death by covering her with flowers. She shows her strong connections with Peeta by going and saving him when it was announced that two victors could be announced with they were both from the same district. She saves him from death and looks after him while he gets better even going as far as getting medicine from the cornucopia much to her risk as she almost died getting the medicine.
Katniss Everdeen from district twelve is an expert with the bow, an attribute which is not upon the other tributes abilities among their world of a dystopia that is known as Panem. Since Katniss portrays as the heroine, she must endure many different challenges to meet her ultimate goal of getting out of The Hunger Games alive with Peeta. The point of conflict of physical moral and emotional challenges is to make the hero stronger along his/her adventures till the end where they must face their biggest trial to the ultimate victory.
Katniss Everdeen is a strong, independent teenager who went through extraordinary circumstances. She faced several arduous challenges throughout life and the Hunger Games. A few examples of the challenges she faces are trust, love, and poverty. These are not the only challenges she faced, but I feel these are the ones she struggled the most with.
Cinna, the stylists who creates Katniss Everdeen's image for the Hunger Games has a few similarities to Lucius Cornelius Cinna, who was a supporter of leader Marius and Lepidus against the oppressive ruler Sulla. Cinna helps Katniss in defiance against the rulers of the Capitol.
