In the novel “The Hunger Games” Suzanne Collins conveys the qualities of a hero through the main character Katniss Everdeen. The novel is based around a dystopian nation, in which is placed in Panem. Through which a boy and a girl from each district must take part in ‘The Hunger Games’ where they have to fight to the death, until there is one survivor. Given these symptoms (examples above) and the fact that they have lasted more than year can help us determine the Katniss Everdeen is suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The criterion from DSM-5 on PTSD has also helped in determining the correct diagnosis for Katniss. The traumatic event that lead Katniss to develop PTSD was that she was forced to survive by killing foes and comrades alike. Too often she was placed in situations that were either to kill or be killed by other tributes. Situations like those escalated the risk of becoming another survivor of PTSD. As previously mentioned, the symptoms have lasted more than a year and therefore, has created significant distress on Katniss's emotional, cognitive, physical, and social
Neither of these characters expected to be put into the role of care giver for another person but despite the setback they both overcame and did what they had to do to care for those who needed them. In the Hunger Games Katniss is considered something new and unheard of. She stands out as a strong female not afraid to do what she needs to do to strive and care for herself and the needs of others, and make it out of the game. She’s the character in the story that leaves you wanting to know more, “She’s active, she’s strong and she’s the girl who motivates the story.”
Katniss Everdeen is not a normal girl, she is a teenager who had to grow up fast within District Twelve. After losing her father to a mine accident, Katniss had to become an adult and be the sole provider for her family. Her mother detached herself from her role as a parent, which meant Katniss not only had to become the provider but also the nurturer of the family. This gives her the role of being the mother and father to her sister
The presence of true female bravery in many novels and films was very rare, however, the release of the series, ‘The Hunger Games’, has begun the start of the typical female protagonist, by introducing the confident character, Katniss Everdeen. The film focuses on the protagonist of the film, Katniss Everdeen, a 16 year old girl that lives in the poor District 12, which is located in the apocalyptic land Panem. This essay will analyse views towards film heroes, and the protagonist in the film, by recognising gender stereotypes, traditions, values, and beliefs to relate to modern society. In the typical western tradition, the heroes in the films are typically male and reinforce the values of the typical western society, the heroes in the films normally follow a set pattern, and this is relatable to Joseph Campbell’s
She feels like once her dad died she shut her and her sister out and didn’t take very good care of them. Katniss expected her mom to find a job so she would be able to buy the necessities they needed. Finally the relationship with Katniss and her sister is a very good relationship. Like Katniss says “How could I leave Prim, who is the only person in the world I’m certain I love?” (Page 18, Suzanne Collins).
When faced with an unjust government system one strong-willed teenager faces abundant obstacles to ensure the survival of her family and herself. At the age of sixteen Katniss Everdeen is already providing for her family, and breaking the laws enforced by the Capitol every day to do so. Katniss is then thrown into a competition were the penalty for losing is death. While balancing her responsibilities as provider and fighter she must also put on an impressive act as a lover; under the suspecting eyes of President Cornelius Snow. The day that her true struggles begin is that day of which all civilians of District 12 loathe. This is the day of the reaping.
Katniss was always very close to her little sister Prim. Prim meant the world to her and she always did her best to protect her. Katniss loved Prim so much that she even put her own life before hers when she “stepped up to take Prim’s place”(24) as tribute. Katniss’ father was a very influential on her. He taught her how the woods could provide for her but also that they could be dangerous. Even after he had died he was still important to her. After her dad past, Katniss’ mother became drastically depressed and was unable to provide for her children. Katniss never truly forgave her for abandoning them in their time of need. With her mother in a comatose state Katniss decided she would have to protect and provide for Prim. All the hunting, gathering and buying of tesserae was for Prim’s sake. To keep them out of the community home
In The Hunger Games the main character, Katniss Everdeen, is forced to grow-up at a young age. Her father died in an explosion years earlier and left Katniss to become virtually the sole provider for her family that consist of her younger sister Prim, and her mother. When her father died her mother became distant and stopped working forcing Katniss to step up and fill that role for the sake of her sister. She started hunting, gathering, and selling food at the black market. These skills would later help her in the Hunger Games after she volunteered to take Prim’s place after her name was drawn in the reaping. Along with Katniss, Peeta ( a baker's son that helped Katniss after her father died) is chosen to participate in the games. After the
Katniss Everdeen, heroine of the story, faced many challenges during The Hunger Games, but her most grueling challenges involved fighting against the rules and laws of the Capitol to protect the people she cares about. In her district she defied the laws and rules to protect her sister. She went against the Capitol again during the Hunger Games when she protected Rue. Finally, at the end of the games to save Peeta. All of these challenges could have gotten her killed, yet she still conquered them because she knew that the rules and laws of the Capitol were morally wrong.
I would like to meet Katniss Everdeen. I would like to ask her questions of how hard it was in the 76th hunger games. Was it hard rebelling against the capital? In the books she is very inspiring. She is brave and will defend what is right. She loves and cares about her family. She did something that gained the respect of the citizens. I think she would respond in shock. Comparing her response to everyone who held up the three or the mockingjay sign she was astonished. I think she be herself and tell me the truth about how she really felt. I would also hope she would bring Peeta with her so I could speak to
In this essay, the correlations that exist between The Hunger Games trilogy, and the ancient civilizations of Rome and Greece will be discussed. There are certain aspects like characters, situations and events that take place in the series that are similar to characters, situations and events that are Grecian and Roman. There is a clear distinction between the rich, powerful government and the impoverished, subservient citizens, especially since the government, or the Capitol wants the citizens to know their place. The Capitol wants the citizens to be subservient and it seems the Capitol is using the Games as a way to demonstrate and assert their power and control over the citizens. From this objective, many aspects of the Hunger Games trilogy show a similarity to the
Similarly to the second stanza of Invictus, The second verse (lines 5-9) of Fight song illustrates the image of a victim whose plunderers is the fervent doubt; The concept “doubt” is executed through the connotations in (Line 5-6), stating that she is surrendering to discouragement around her and also giving off a sense of weakness. Followed by (line 7), a metaphor about depth of feeling. "Fire" symbolises a common poetic metaphor for intense feeling or passion. Who’s a fan of The Hunger Games Trilogy? Like in Fight song, Fire plays an important role as the main character; Katniss Everdeen is referred as "the girl on fire" numerous times because of her fearlessness and passionate self. Relatively, this links back to not only the classical
In many works of literature, it is often a crucial component for characters to sacrifice opportunities that arise in their lives in order to help loved ones. In Suzanne Collin’s “The Hunger Games,” protagonist Katniss Everdeen sacrifices the chance to live her own life in order for her sister, Primrose Everdeen, to not experience potential death in the arena. Another character that has similar attributes to Katniss Everdeen would be Pari II in Khaled Hosseini’s, “And the Mountains Echoed.” This novel depicts a strong relationship between parents and a daughter that results in missed opportunities due to the health risks that have developed in the parents. The fundamental values of such a character have developed through years of witnessing
One character in the “Hunger Games” that is inhumanely is Mrs.Everdeen. She is inhuman because, after Mr. Everdeen passed away Mrs. Everdeen quit doing her job.
