In the book “The Hunger Games” and “Catching Fire” by Suzanne Collins Katniss Everdeen desperately fights for her life in the arena. She has been chosen as a tribute in the reaping day and promises her sister Primrose Everdeen and later on in part II Rue a district 11 girl who she was allies with. Katniss learns that she must be dependent on others to have a chance to win. The books give a great description with her relationship with Peeta, Rue, Haymitch, the tribute victors, and family and friends she loves. Katniss had to depend on other people for survival an example would be when she was trapped on a tree by the careers. This is where Rue points out the tracker jack nest. When she was with Peeta in the cave healing him they had kissed and received a parachute with a gift from sponsors. “Haymitch couldn’t be sending me a clearer message. One kiss equals one pot of broth (92). This is where Katniss realizes she must act in love and be used by the capitol to survivive. “If the audience really thinks we're in love...I remember how strongly they responded to his confession. Star-Crossed lovers...they eat that stuff up in the capitol” (p.165). She finds out how the power of love will melt the audience's hearts and desire her. Her survival skills in the beginning of “The Hunger Games” were misinterpreted with rebellion her intentions were to have her and Peeta alive. She states this in “Catching Fire” “All I was doing was trying to keep Peeta and myself alive. Any act of rebellion was purely coincidental” (18). In real life parents try to discipline there children and sometimes the law has restrictions and they end up getting in trouble not because they don't love their children but the intention was for the best.
