Othello semmes to suggest that jealousy is a dangerous emotion that will destroy everything around you. This is shown through various characters throughout the play. One of these character who showed this was Emilia. She had stated “They are not ever jealous for the cause, but are jealous for they are jealous”. This supports my claim as people rarely ever have a reason to be jealous . the simply just are Anote character that agrees with my claim is ironically iago. He stated “Oh , Beware,my lord, of jealousy”. This also shows that jealousy is a dangerous emotion that can drive a man insane as it did ti Othello. Both of these characters which i have mentioned knew this too. However they were unable to stop the events that followed, or maybe did not want to. …show more content…
This is shown but putting Iago in the shadows throughout the comic strip as well as othello's eyes turning green with jealousy when the talk. Thisrefects on our theme of jealousy as sometimes jealousy is not alway visible and can be there for no apparent reason. We intended to surprise our Audience with our plot twist by revealing at the end that Iago never existed. By doing this we made the audience think back o the story and how iago could simply be a personification of Jealousy itself. The interpretation at the end as well as the rawing were designed to achieve this. In the drawing Iago's shadowy figure hinted that he wasn't really there. In addition the fact that when he spoke Othello's eyes turned green also had a symbolic meaning. This is because Jealousy, Iago, is a green eyed
However, Iago has already supplanted jealousy and suspicion into Othello's mind. This causes little amounts of evidence seem like absolute proof and will haunt his mind and memory. Furthermore, proving that jealousy is a dangerous tool used to get into people's heads and make them think differently/ out of proportion. Another example of jealousy causing Othello to destroy himself is after he kills his wife and learns the truth. Othello begs everyone, “Speak of me as I am; nothing extenuate, Nor set down aught in malice: then must you speak of one that loved not wisely but too well; of one not easily jealous, but being wrought Perplex'd in the extreme” (V. ii.
The higher the level of insecurity, the more people are prone to jealousy. Often times in marriage, people are accustomed to believing the silliest things and before they know it, their relationship is ruined. Individuals chose to worry about the fear of being split apart instead of focusing on current ecstasy. In the play, Othello, by William Shakespeare, the main character falls into a state of pure rage and jealousy. This eventually controls and destroys his initial nobility while hurting people along the way. Through evil vengeance and false inevitability, the author significantly conveys Othello’s naivety and displays how jealousy easily corrupts people’s minds.
In the play Othello, Iago describes jealousy as a “green-eyed monster. The “Green” representing the color of envy, and “monster” shows how destructive and vicious it can be. Iago has a manipulative mind causing people to believe him and listen what he has to say about a certain situation. When Iago is telling Othello to be aware of jealousy it causes Othello to become weary of his wife Desdemona. Although, Othello believes his wife is loyal to him. He starts to listen to Iago and becomes jealous of Roderigo who he believes is all for Desdemona.
There are many different emotions like sadness, happiness, and joyfulness just to name a few that people can experience. One of the most powerful and sometimes dangerous emotions is Jealousy. Jealousy is a powerful emotion that most people experience at some point in their life. However, not everyone is affected in the same way. Some people are filled with insecurity. While others are filled with fear. Most people experience anger. In William Shakespeare’s Othello the audience learns through the characterization of Othello and Iago, the symbolism of the handkerchief, and through Othello denying that he is jealous we learn that jealousy can make people behave irrationally in certain circumstances.
Jealousy is a powerful emotion that can blind oneself from identifying the truth. Shakespeare heavily emphasizes this theme throughout the drama Othello, especially through the actions of characters. In the play the heinous antagonist, Iago, uses each character’s jealousy to deceive that person and manipulate the truth. His false promises and deceitfulness bring to the demise of many of the main characters in the play, including the protagonist, Othello. Othello could not have been deceived if it were not for his powerful jealousy. Therefore, Shakespeare is telling us that jealousy is an ugly trait that can hide the truth, which in turn causes many problems between characters in the play.
In the play Othello, jealousy is shown to be very evident through the actions of the characters. Jealousy is an emotion that everyone shares, and it is ultimately responsible for the tragic ending of the play. Everyone feels jealous at certain times of their lives, and this feeling can cause people to do irrational things. This human emotion also shows people to be weak in the sense that they are never happy with what they have. Shakespeare shows through Othello, Iago, Roderigo, and Brabantio that jealousy is the most corrupt and destructive emotion.
Othello was jealous that he was told his wife was cheating on him because he was older and not as attractive as some of the men interested in her. O.J. was jealous because Nicole, someone he was married to for seventeen years, was partying with different guys. Both of the men’s jealous were caused by insecurities. Othello was insecure because Desdemona had the option to find a younger, handsomer man if she wanted to. Othello’s jealousy turned abnormal after Iago brought him “proof” that his wife was cheating on him and he then planned to kill her.
Jealousy is a powerful drug. When someone is jealous, one can only imagine how far someone would go because of it. In the play Othello by William Shakespeare, there were several characters that went through different ways of processing their jealousy. Iago’s jealousy provokes his idea to get back at the people he felt was not deserving enough of the things they had or their happiness. His plans succeeds but by the end, no one wins. Iago’s jealousy forms at the beginning of the play which causes Othello’s jealousy towards the end and because of it, it results in people hurt mentally and physically.
Another area of jealousy in Othello is when there are accusations of Othello having an affair with Iago’s wife, Emilia. Emilia was a woman who thought her husband was unfaithful, but stayed with him anyway. Along with these rumors, there were also rumors that Cassio had slept with Emilia too. I believe that jealousy is a powerful thing, and it’s hard to overcome rumors and accusations when they involve everyone’s husbands and wives. Not every character handled themselves the same while getting through these accusations of affairs and what not.
It's important to realize, jealousy can drive one’s mind into a state that they are so easily tricked into becoming a madman. Othello’s insecurities make him into a gullible man,
In the 16th century drama puts a big impact to the characters in othello and causes a twisted end to the play. One type of jealousy seen in othello is the jealousy Iago has over Cassio and his position. Othello suffers from the type of jealousy that he already has, he is afraid of losing his wife, Desdemona. Rodrigo Jealousy is wanting something that someone already has, he wants Desdemona. Othello shows the different kinds of jealousy between Othello, desdemona, Iago and Rodrigo, and how jealousy can lead to a tragic end.
Jealousy is originally introduced into the story when Iago becomes upset by Othello’s successful convincing of Desdemona to marry him. His hate for him is further increased by Othello’s other accolades like becoming a general in the Venetian army. In the mind of Iago, he is inferior to Othello in these two areas, which is why he plans to attack him on these points. Iago then makes plans to both make Othello lose his prestigious General position in the military (I,iii,395), and cause mistrust and grief for Othello and Desdemona, eventually causing a rift in their relationship (I,iii,339). Despite Iago’s ideal encapsulation of the “villain” persona, in which his nature is one of very untrustworthy and extremely manipulative, he manages to
In conclusion, jealousy is shown through many aspects of this play. Such as the people, their own doubts and insecurities, and sometimes their overall situations that they create for themselves within this tragedy. This sentiment affects them all especially Othello mainly because he become too trusting of Iago and allows him to manipulate his mind. In which leads to Othello allow himself to lose all control of his emotions and rationality and eventually his overall downfall. Truly this fiercely strong emotion caused all of this destruction and chaos to the characters’ minds and personal situations within it starting feeding off of just one person it spread to the rest of them like horrific disease. So it was really true when Iago said
In the story of Othello, all of the conflict, violence, and harm that occured was a result of jealousy. Iago, one of the victims of jealousy, made a hypocritical statement to Othello where he called jealousy a green-eyed monster. This monster known as jealousy not only consumes the people that it hates, but also consumes the person itself. Jealousy is the culprit for any character that had died in the story. Jealousy fueled each scene to the next in Othello and the more that is added, the more damage it does as seen with its effects on Roderigo, Iago, and Othello.
Jealousy is the sensation to envy someone and have the desire to avenge someone. The infamous play Othello portrays the consequences of jealousy.
