My dream was to be with people I love, who love each other, that love me, and I'm finishing it." When Emily died it was very tragic. She finished her life living her dream and it left a door open for Jason to make his own dream. His ambition wasn't to have the most money, or to have the prettiest girl, it was to give back. He decided to use his inheritance money around the world and help people in similar positions as Alexia's and his own. He went on to make houses around the nation that made people feel like it was their home yet they received the medical attention and care they needed. Their loved ones were then able to spend time with them without feeling like they were in a hospital all of the time. Jason obtained the gift of dreams. Even though he didn't start off with his own dream, by the end, his life accomplished one in itself. Jason couldn't have been more grateful for getting to know Emily and her mom. Towards the beginning of the storyline, he took all of the things he had for granted. You couldn't have given him anything in the world that he would've been grateful for. However, once Emily passed on, he achieved gratitude, in most likely, the first time in his life. Emily and Alexia were the best things that ever happened to
The friend that the author Marion Winik thinks is the most important is your Buddies. In Winik’s essay she says “Buddies, for example, are the workhorses of the friendship world” meaning they are the ones
In kindergarten, children gave each other colorful beaded bracelets to symbolize their everlasting friendships. “Best friends forever!” they cheered during recess— ignorant to the tragic reality that they would eventually travel their separate ways. Although friendships are full of happiness and laughter, they also consist of sadness and tears. In fact, the majority of individuals would agree that breaking up with a friend is significantly worse than breaking up with a significant other. With a friend, you develop a In Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle claims that friendship is extremely crucial to life. John Donne’s “No Man is an Island” acknowledges Aristotle’s idea of friendship whereas Paul Simon’s “I am a Rock” refutes it.
“A true friend accepts who you are but also helps you become who you should be seeing what is really inside you.” This quote connects with the book, it shows a real friend can see what really is inside of someone and all the pain they feel, how they try their best to find out what is wrong with that person and find a way to help them, not just leave and give up. In the ‘Only Alien In The Planet” by Kristen D. Randle,Ginny who is the main character of the story meets Smitty who has trouble speaking and communicating with others . In “The Greatest Gift” by Philip Van Doren Stern, the theme of appreciating your life no matter how much or how little someone has is conveyed through tone and characterization throughout the story.
Jason is almost always able to be very empathetic towards other people, you can talk to him about anything, and he will understand your problem. when I was ten my bike broke and I was really distressed by this Jason was able to help me get over it by showing me that he understood why I was upset. This quality makes him extraordinary because it causes people to really enjoy being around him and to converse with
“A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out,” Walter Winchell once said. This quote means that a real friend is there when you are facing a time of sadness, but also a time of happiness. An exploration of how the author of the poem “Always There”, by Erik Gual, and the authors of the novel, “We are still Tornadoes”, by Michael Kun and Susan Mullen, portrayed their interpretation of friendship shows how crucial having a friend can be. While similar, they have their differences. Erik Gual, the author of “Always There”, gets to the theme by using exaggeration and a metaphor, but Michael Kun and Susan Mullen get to the theme by using repetition and a characters dialect.
Jason has not sought psychological treatment. Emilia told us Jason was still in his bedroom.
(GENERAL STATEMENTS) He had to deal with the sadness of living in the AIDs epidemic. He also had to live with the pain of abuse. His father beat him and he had to keep it a secret. This caused him to have the burden of the emotions his father gave him. Jason had to also live with not fitting in. He had a hard time getting friends because of the lifestyle he grew up in. He did not have the same discipline as the other kids. (CLINCHER) Though these things had a negative effect on Jason, it developed him into who he is
There are many different types of friendship, Lewis argues, such as companionship and friendship among romantic lovers. A true friend is found when individuals “discover that they have in common some insight or interest or taste which others do not share… [which
In discussions of The Ultimate Gift one controversial issue has been when Jason will receive his gift. On the one had, Red argues Jason must be patience and learn the value of hard work and he will be rewarded. On the other hand, Jason contends to know the gift he is working towards. In chapter three after Jason has a fit about Reds video, he flies out to Gus ranch to learn how to work. Jason overslept and Gus is already not happy with his attitude and work ethic so tears the fence post down to nonverbally show Jason he is disappointed. Jason understands Gus negative message so he starts putting in effort in and doing a good job. As Gus goes to get Jason he sees that the fence is put together well. Being a friend shows that you care for others. This theme is based on two different stories, The Lion And The Mouse, by Rob John, and Holes, By Louis Sachar. In both stories, the characters have strong friendships. They took risks, sacrifices, and thoughtful thinking to be what they are now. Showing that you care makes a true friendship.
In discussions of The Ultimate Gift, a controversial issue has been Jason's behavior and attitude. When it comes to the topic of Jason's up bringing, most would readily agree that he expects things to be handed to him. Red agrees when he writes, "There does seem to be some spark of something in you. For that reason, I am not making you an instant millionaire for the rest of your life" (Stovall 2001 pg. 23). In other words, Red is telling Jason his grandson, that he is not to young to change his attitude and behavior. My own view is that it took Red almost his entire life to realize money cant make you happy, and he wants to teach that to Jason. Basically, Red is having Mr.Hamlton withhold the inheritance to teach Jason many life lessons. I
A true friend will always be there for you. No matter how immense or diminutive the problem may be, true friends will be the first ones there. If somebody is having trouble understanding their homework, a friend will be there to help that person understand that material. When someone is feeling down and not having a great day, a friend will try to cheer you up by acting silly. A great friend will always try to be the first ones there, regardless of the situation. This is what separates a friend from a genuine friend.
The movie, The Ultimate Gift, is a moving example of how one man, who while in search for the “ultimate gift,” actually learned and gained many more precious gifts along the way. Jason Stevens was a man on a mission to get to the big pay-off at the end of his quest but thanks to his wise grandfather Jason gained much more than just money. Throughout his journey in the movie Jason was taught and given the gift of hard work, the gift of love, the gift of friendship, etc. After learning and receiving these gifts, it was only then that Jason would receive and truly be able to appreciate the ultimate gift that his grandfather had waiting for him. Jason struggled to complete the tasks, but with the completion of each task, he then was motivated to move on to the next task. This motivation to achieve certain “gifts” and then move on to the next one is explained in Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Maslow believed that people are motivated to achieve certain needs and then when the need is actualized then they will move on to the next one. The stages in Maslow’s Hierarchy are psychological, safety, social, esteem, and self- actualization. In The Ultimate Gift, Jason, in order to receive his grand prize, goes through stages within his missions that are very much like the steps in Maslow’s hierarchy of Needs.
