Is Social Media Harmful Or Harmful To Us?

In final analysis, social media is increasing day by day for young people which can later cause negative outcomes. Social networks will continue to be harmful, unless parents be aware of how much social media is used among their young kids. If there are no regulations or limitations on social networking the repercussion will accumulate. New communication technologies are changing the lives of everyone around the world, including the way people foster relationships. Yet, from Psychology Today to The New York Times' editorial page, everyone is weighing in on the harmful effects of social media on relationships. Criticisms include the danger of isolation, the loss of social etiquette, and the possibility of being misled by web-based information posted on Internet forums like Facebook. Sam Laird (2012) cites a recent survey indicating that "24% of respondents 存aid they've missed out on enjoying special moments in person because ironically enough they were too busy trying to document their experiences for online sharing." Thus, the critics may have valid points. However, others see social media as beneficial to relationships and a great facilitator. This paper will analyze the effects of social media and show how it may be viewed as both harmful and helpful to today's relationship-building.

It seems as if social media is known for the bad that happens, but I would like to focus on the positives about social media. I believe that social media is a great source for teenagers and children around my age. Not only does social media allow you to meet new people with similar interests as you, it allows you to reach out to famous people or can get out of your comfort zone. Teenagers can also use social media to find out the news. Some people watch the news on TV, but people my age find out what's going on through social media. Teenagers use social media as a source of entertainment such as watching funny Youtube or Facebook videos. Teenagers can also use social media for advice, such as if you don’t know an answer to a homework problem you could just direct message one of your friends for help. People like to think that only bad comes from social media, but that is simply incorrect. Yes bad stuff can happen, but there’s always a chance for something bad to happen. I believe that social media is great for teenagers, and so should you.

Social media is a powerful tool that can allow people from all over the world to strengthen their relationships or on the other hand, destroy them as well within a single stroke of a key. Some people may believe that social media is harmful; however, it is helpful to adolescents and teenagers alike.

There is much controversy over whether or not the risks of social media outweigh the benefits. While it can be used for numerous types of criminal activity, it can also be used to stop these crimes and other criminals. Just a few examples of occurrences that can negatively affect or even inflict physical harm on people through social media usage include things such as cyberbullying, sexual predation, robbery, etc. These things can permanently affect people’s lives or even, in some cases, kill them. Given these risks, there are also many strategies the police utilize to catch criminals, which would not be possible without social media. So, which is it? Does the amount of predators or cyberbullies online and on social media give ample enough reason to consider social media more help than harm, or are there enough good things that result from social media usage to consider social media a valuable asset? Social media can be used as a tool in law enforcement, but there are too many negative factors, like crime and cyberbullying, that were directly caused by social media to consider it much of an asset.

In todays society,social media is detrimental because it causes distractions, create unnecessary drama, and it can open you up to identity theft and fraud. Social media can end up being the death of someone people and social media is no good at all it’s very bad.

Social media has a positive effect on teens because it makes them more responsible.. Amanda Lenhart says “People are looking for a positive , creative , appropriate profile online . When the person you would be going to work for looks at your profile if they don't see that you are positive , creative , and appropriate then they won't give you the job and if you don't have a social media they think that you're trying to hide something . What you have on your digital footprint is important to because if you have things online that you deleted because you thought that you would get into trouble they can see what you posted because what you post and say online stays online

Is social media beneficial, or has it served as a hindrance to our society? This has been a reoccurring topic for quite sometime now and honestly, I believe that it has been both a "blessing" and a "curse". I am guilty of using social media way too much--it's pretty much a drug if you ask me. No matter how many times I tell myself that I am going to stay off for at least a day, I always find myself slipping in a tweet of some random Drake song lyric (that's pretty sad, I know). Besides personal addiction, using networks like Twitter and Instagram have actually expanded my outlook on different issues and trending topics. I do not really watch TV, so I never watch the news, however, though social media I usually find out all that I need to know.

Social media negatively affects our society today as it is slowly ruining our everyday lives. Is it really worth it? It has turned in to an addiction for people of all ages. Susan Tardanico states, nearly 93% of communication today are done so through nonverbal communications. Social media has rapidly transformed our traditional way of communication and relationships, because it has done so it is very difficult to cope that our so called private world is not really private anymore. It has such a negative effect on our society from friends, to work, and even families.

Each day, we ask the same question, is social media good or bad? Everyone has their own opinion whether it is good or bad. Social Media keeps everyone around the world stay connected, it helps solve government solve crimes and keep everyone updated when there is bad news in their local area.

Social media is a new and upcoming part of technology. It is so state-of-the-art that researchers have only recently started noticing the effects and the true impact that it has on society.
