International Expansion Many companies today want to expand their business to the international business, which can bring cost down and profits up. Taking a business internationally means knowing the rules and regulations of the countries you are entering. There can be many issues with going global which include cultural barriers, diversity issues, multicultural issues, political issues, and economical issues. It is very important to know how important expansion is to the company and what implications will come from going global. There is no one way to enter a foreign market and each business must choose the model that is right for them. Each country has different cultures that businesses will run into and in order to do business within the country, the business must know how to deal. Some countries still do not allow women to be in the business field, so it may be more appropriate to have a male worker deal with others in that country. Some countries would allow their workers to take more frequent break for the Call to Prayer; therefore the company must oblige for circumstances like that. Each country has their own rules about workers and just like the US has child labor laws, other countries may have different laws, it is important for businesses to know and follow the laws (International Management, 2000). It is not hard to figure out why diversity has become an important topic for the international arena. There are 196 countries in the world with about 196 different ideas they consider “traditional” or normal. Consider the US where it is a melting pot for many different cultures. The workers within any company can come from a diverse back ground just in the US, take that same business internationally and you have more diversity.
