Group working is an essential skill in university because it is beneficial to understand the work and complete it better. The main point is working in a group always can get more information than working individual. When students working individual, they are always cannot get more ideals or difficult to develop the ideal, the reason of that could be some people may be not enough knowledge about the topic. This cause is very obvious in engineering students because they always get a project that is need to think on the difference way to get the solutions. Burke (2011 :88) also states in his Journal that working in group can get more information because the group member who from difference countries and culture backgrounds also they have difference experience of the topic, therefore the students are available to get more information than a single individual. So,
It is essential to have teamwork within a company. Companies who have embraced the concept of teamwork have reported increased performance in work production, problem solving and it has stimulated new growth. This group project approach has improved employee morale and increased input when managed correctly. The benefits of teamwork can make a positive effect in the company that incorporates this type of teamwork approach.
In today’s complex and ever changing environment, organization continue to experiment with new forms of team development. In this research report, my aim is to have a clear and deep research on teamwork and how it affects businesses so that I can help Tina and Frank who is coming back from overseas to start their own business. In my opinion, group work is a type of cooperative learning that helps people to accomplish a certain task in a faster and more effective manner. Team working also helps to achieve the tasks that are impossible to finish by one individual. However, if people in a group have a lot of conflicts, group work will not be able to achieve as much as we expected. There are many reasons which lead to dissatisfaction in group work such as individualism as well as conflicts in opinion and time.
This plays a part in your classroom also. When the teacher says to work in a group then everyone needs to play a part in getting the work done instead of one person doing it. Also when you use team work you have a better chance of getting your assignments right the first time. This is also where communication plays a part in teamwork. You have to be able to communicate with your group and express your opinions and ideas effectively.
Group work is an important part of work. In many jobs, group work is a function that is required. Therefore it’s important to develop the skills and practices at University. In this essay I critically analyse my own experiences against the literature.
Since much of our time is spend in groups, it is helpful to work in groups because it will give an opportunity to improve their human functioning. Group work helps to develop individual skills in communication, relationship building and asserting oneself
Throughout life there are many instances in which an individual has to work in a group to complete a task/project. The importance of group work is to have teamwork with each member of the group. Humans are driven to connect with each other and by working as a group ideas become much more enriched and the ideas or thoughts that each person ‘brings to the table’ each individual is able to add onto that idea or it can trigger one to think of something completely different.
With the heterogeneous groups the level of discussion and cooperative work is increased, providing benefits for every student partaking. According to Paul Burden and David Byrd (2012), “Having students work in groups generally has a positive effect on their achievement when compared to their work as individuals.” Small-group work and discussions allows for students to improve their communication skill, cooperation skills, and gain new insight and understanding from their peers in a way that could not be achieved working alone.
Group work has been a cornerstone of the social work profession and requires a variety of facilitator skills and awareness of group processes. The SSLDTM Group Program for People with Difficulties in Social Situations (Socialwork1914, 2017) provides an excellent example of a psycho-educational group co-facilitated by two female social workers, Jane and Karen. After viewing the 6th session of this 8-week program, I began to understand how the concepts of group formation/development, interpersonal dynamics, and leadership styles contribute to successful group work outcomes.
“Helpful Tips for Collaboration in Group Work” provides an excellent template of what it looks like to be a part of something greater than one’s self. It articulates in writing things that I have discovered oftentimes through the hard way with things going wrong in group projects. Like many, I share the frustrations of doing 90% of the work in a group project, in my case it was building a lego robot in the 6th grade. My partner and I had a blast dreaming up the possibility of bringing a robot to class for a project about industrial technology, but that same passion was not transferred to the workload. I relate to being the domineering partner also, through many cultural presentation in the 9th grade where I insisted on controlling the direction of everything the group was doing. If my group members had only known how to use humor and directness as described in this article the group as a whole would of been much more productive. I discovered the importance of setting clear attendance expectations when members of the leadership team I was a part of did not consistently show up, and we did not know what to do because there were
Realizing that a group can become a high performance team is important. Accomplishing this goal is invaluable, advantageous and profitable. Once able to operate from a group to the high performing team is a great step into preparation into the big business world. Leaders and members must also realize not only how to accomplish this but that some problems will and can arise from different demographic characteristics and cultural diversity. That is if one is in such a group, which the probability would be quite high.
“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”-Henry Ford. What I think this quote means is that you get things done better in a group. You get new ideas, you get to socialize, you get to be apart of teamwork. I go with group work, and here's why.
Teamwork can be complex and challenging given task and interpersonal issues, level of group motivation and expected performance standards. The concrete experience spoken about in this reflection piece is in reference to the effectiveness of myself as a group member and the group, working to write a report outlining the organisation and structure of Volkswagen. Dennison (2009) applies Kolb’s learning cycle (1981, 1984) which suggests that learning moves through a continuous cycle, between having an experience, and then reflecting on that action. This cycle has been developed from Lewin’s (1951) model for experiential learning. Reflection termed by Boud, Keogh and Walker (1985) ‘is a forum of response to the learner to experience’(p. 18). On reflection, the early set group dynamics was a defining factor in the experience, and how the team conducted themselves throughout the task. Meyerson, Wick and Kramer (1996) note that ‘such rapidly converging groups require methods for developing “swift trust”’ (p. 8), which can explain why initial group dynamics are so important. I took on multiple team roles, including group leader, which could be translated into the team not performing collectively on a high level, however, I could view this as a personal ineffectiveness of my leadership style.
“Group work is a form of voluntary association of members benefiting from cooperative learning that enhances the total output of the activity than when done individually”.
