What is immigration? Immigration is when a person from one country moves to another country with the plan of staying permanently. There are many reasons why someone may want to immigrate to another country such as the United States of America. According to the text around 214.2 million people immigrated in 2010 alone. The positive pulls may be for job opportunities, higher wages, educational opportunities, health care, family and friends (Guest, 2014). The negative pushes for a person to immigrate may be from poverty, famine, natural disasters, war, ethnic conflict, genocide, disease, political or religious reasons, lack of jobs, etc. People usually choose to immigrate for a better state of living. Immigration isn’t always approved of or appreciated by everyone however. Immigrants often face hardships like racism and discrimination by those living in the communities they move to. In the film 9500 Liberty the Mexican population that had moved into the town over the last many years were being attacked by a group of people who thought they were harming the community. The group, being extremely racist, got a policy passed to make immigrants, who they called illegals, move out of their homes and split their families. This hardship brought the community together as an enemy against this hate group and eventually got part of the policy removed that allowed the Mexican immigrants not to be discriminated based on how they look or speak.
