What do you see as the most valuable aspect(s) of living, learning, and collaborating within a diverse setting? (300-500 words) There are many valuable aspects to living in a diverse community, but the most valuable to me is the wide range of perspectives on world problems, and local situations. With a more diverse student body, People will bring new insights and ideas that others may not have thought of. It can also educate people about cultures, traditions, and backgrounds other than my own. This can be very helpful because with the knowledge of another culture,
1. Diversity is a range of different things, forms, types, ideas, races and cultures. Learning diversity would allow me to be great teacher. Teachers must come to understand the real lived experience of the families and children they teach. Being educated on diversity could help me understand the different circumstances and characteristics of various students. It would make you more aware of different cultures, and better me for cultures and beliefs. As I continue out my career when I come in contact with more diverse students I will be more educate and efficient then I was before. To prepare for diversity you should all ways be opened minded. To realize that we are all on a very diverse campus even with a small population is important because we in a way get a little taste of everything from everyone. To know that Washburn is a diverse campus is important to me because that means there is always going to be something that I can learn about someone else each and everyday. Honestly, before this assignment, I was not too interested in the topic of diversity simply because I did not think too much about it. Afterwards seeing what diversity was all about it really is interesting to know that everyone lives different but we all live in the same world.
Coming from a diversity community and high school allowed me to have different view of points and be open about several topics such as immigration, low wages, and poverty for the worse. Being raised in a low income and diversity community and high school made me have the vision that where ever I go I would adjust to the environment and asotsphere which wasn’t the case when I decided to attend Johnson County Community College. My first semester of college was a but challenging because I was used to communicating with people that I was confortable with, and the group of people I normally interacted with throughout my entire life were Hispanic individuals. Coming to JCCC changed my whole perspective about how I have to adapt and get used to not

With the right dosage, IMRT can slow or even stop mesothelioma from progressing after extrapleural pneumonectomy (EPP), while still maintaining healthy lung function. The key has been to keep the radiation dose to the remaining lung low, while using a higher dose of radiation to treat the surgical area post-op.
Ever since I began my undergraduate education, I have personally observed and benefited from the diversity of my peers. Growing up, diversity was essentially absent from my life. My hometown community is a congregation of white middle class Americans working in mostly white collar careers. I remember coming to Iowa and being blown away with the knowledge, perspective, and new understandings I gained from every interaction with someone who was unlike myself. In the past three and half year, conversations with international students have led to new friends from other countries; exposure to the different upbringing people experience has made me more aware of the benefits diversity offers. I would never have been able to accomplish the milestones I have without having the opportunity to flourish in such a diverse environment. I have complete confidence that I bring new perspectives and will contribute to immensely to the already diverse environment at the University of Minnesota.
I am both a female and Latina thus as a minority, the presence of diversity at a college is indispensable in order for me to feel at home. By becoming a part of your community I would be adding on to the cultural diversity that is already present at your campus. I would immerse myself in these cultures, therefore shaping me into a more knowledgeable human being. I would join your diversity related groups, such as the Latinx Unidos, and become more aware of my background as well as other people’s. Your campus would not only gain another voice advocating diversity but also another representative of the
The campus is the place where many students gather together to continue their educational career. Diversity is a common thing to us. In campus, we can see many differences like the study system, no school uniform, and so on. We meet many people from the different island, ethnic, and culture as well. The reason why diversity is one of the important things because diversity teaches us how to accept and tolerate the other. To be a successful person not only decided by how good is your GPA, but how you tolerate the other also decide your success. From diversity, we can learn new things like the behavior of particular ethnic, their mindset, priority, and so on. As long as we can accept and tolerate it, as
Diversity is how we are all different in our own unique way. The concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect. It is about recognizing our individual differences, and working together to forge a better future. Colleges should aim to establish a climate of diversity and inclusion on school campuses, so that every student, regardless of background, race, religion or language feel safe and a sense of belonging. Colleges with a diverse student body helps improve the academic performance of students and better student collaboration. Queens fostering a diverse community of students, will help in creating a conducive learning environment for students and staff. Diversity may have its challenges but many fail to see the benefits that come along with it. The knowledge and experience that comes along with diversity is priceless in this lifetime. Exposing oneself to culture can be a life changing experience that enriches someone’s life like a college course cannot. Another advantage to encountering diversity in school or the workplace would be that it can open many more doors to showing kindness to someone who comes along a person’s life journey. In my experience, many people avoid people who speak another language or act in a way that is different from their own. Who knows what opportunities can arise when a person becomes a little bit more open minded to different cultures and traditions. When
I believe that by joining the university, I will have contributed to creating a diverse learning environment in a lot of ways; Sharing my African culture with that of the other students through interacting, a higher level of motivation to achieve the best in life, and the ability to be able to have a greater understanding of societal unity from compatibility of cultural differences will be achieved in the students. The experience I have had with people from different cultures, the languages I speak and the fact that I am from another country will help me bring diversity to a group. I enjoy learning from foreign places and hearing what people have to say about the world. The most important thing I can contribute to diversity is having an open mind. I do not have a rigid set of beliefs, I like to hear new ideas and discuss
I’ve always believed that life is about gaining as much knowledge as possible. Thanks to my parents I’ve always been extremely accepting of other cultures and customs. From trying new foods to learning different traditions. My main goal in life is to meet as many people as I can and learn about their part of the world. I know if I can bring nothing else to the community I’ll bring open mindedness and acceptance. The fact that one of the traits you all look for is the ability to benefit from and contribute to a culturally and intellectually diverse community is one of the reasons I choose to apply. A campus with diversity and acceptance is always a win in my book. Having clubs just for certain groups of students who share the same culture or
As a white woman, I am part of both a majority (white) and a minority (female) in the workplace and in most other settings, as well. I am also a Christian, and while that is still a majority in the United States, there are more and more people who are moving away from Christianity or choosing other forms of religion. In the future, being a Christian could put me into the minority. Being a single mother categorizes me, as well. The college town where I live with my daughter is an extremely diverse community. All different kinds of people are represented in that community. This is true not just in the schools, but in the leadership, too. I am not sure if my life is really affected that much by the groups of which I am a part. Many of the groups to which I belong in a societal sense are unchangeable. In other words, I cannot stop being female or white.
I value the diversity that exists at Columbia. Learning isn’t limited to a classroom, and by being around people of different backgrounds, I can learn much more about the world than I would in a place where everyone is just like me. Education is not only defined by what is learned in a classroom, but also by the daily interactions with other people. A culture of diversity spreads tolerance and diminishes prejudice and misunderstandings. By being around this kind of atmosphere, I would be prepared for the world much better than just getting a degree and getting a job. Oftentimes we tend to fall into the trap that all that we see and experience, is all the world is comprised of. But this is obviously not true, and the exposure to a variety of
Cultural diversity affects life outside of college because it lets people hear about the different opinions about certain topics, even if they might not agree. This enables them to see other people’s traditions and customs. People grow from being exposed to these different cultures because it helps them to be better people by learning new things they might not have learned before. It shows how people can adapt to others who are different in their own way and respect their points of view. Also, this can cause changed behaviors and a broader understanding of others.
