Never assume that if a person belongs to a certain group, they all hold the same preferences and beliefs, as this is not always the case. It is better to involve the person actively and find out what their preferences are. If personal preferences are not respected, then this could not only offend the person, but also they may avoid seeking support when they need it. Sensitivity should be exercised at all times.
1.5 Describe how to identify suitable opportunities for an individual to learn or practice skills for daily living?
People can learn practical living skills on a day-to-day basis. It is important therefore that care workers recognize opportunities and give the appropriate support. If a person is living in a supported living environment, the opportunities to learn life skills can be effectively embedded on a regular basis. For example, while the support workers helping the person to do their shopping use public transport or access a service such as a cinema, there are opportunities to develop communication, organization and numeracy skills. When planning activities the support worker, with the person, should recognize and seize opportunities for that person to develop valuable learning and life skills. Shopping trips can be a useful learning opportunity – for example, when planning what is needed, writing lists, organizing where to go and keeping within

An organization’s current ratio shows how liquid the assets of the agency are by comparison to the short term debts that the agency must pay to continue its operations. This ratio is calculated by taking the assets that can be converted to cash within a year (current assets) and dividing it by the liabilities that are either currently due or will become due within a year (current liabilities). The current ratio, ideally, should be at
Independent and dependent both have their good and bad reasons in Ayn Rand's novel “Anthem” Equality 7-2521 experiences both of these. Equality 7-2521 starts out in this novel as everyone else in his society dependent on each of their brothers on every decision. He then slowly starts to become independent towards the end of the novel. Well Equality was still depending on his brothers he was disobeying the law by working by himself. He had discovered electricity and he then invented the “glass box that was able to hold light,he soon after wanted to show his new invention thinking that it would be life changing to the house of scholars but they rejected him causing him to become completely independent and not rely on any of his brothers.
By vocalising any struggles or concerns, they are able to recognise their own needs, as well as acknowledging their obstacles and determining ways to overcome them, with the help of a professional. For example, some aged carers who have been working for a long time, may feel as though they are able to tackle their obstacles on their own due to the length of time in which they have been working. However, after speaking to someone, they are able to come to terms with their own concerns and better achieve their responsibilities. Information being provided to aged carers by the program is another effective strategy, as it may allow them to better understand their own feelings and thoughts, allowing them to find peace, allowing them to continue working positively. Aged carers are able to access information which assists them in dealing with issues that come from their role as aged carers. By exploring the different ways that they may attend to their own needs, they are able to further enhance their wellbeing. For example, some aged carers may be unaware of how to resolve particular issues, or they may be unaware of the commonality of their issues – information provided may put their doubts to rest, allowing them to meet their own needs. Support Services are an extremely effective strategy to use, as it allows aged carers to access support within their caring roles, to effectively explore how to deal with particular issues, as well as interacting with other carers who may be in the same situation. This effectively enhances their wellbeing as they are reminded that there are various forms of support available. For example, an aged carer may struggle in dealing with a particular issue on their own, therefore may seek assistance from a support service, which will reaffirm them that they are not alone, further improving their
Look at a tree and tell me what you see. I see branches, I see the color green, and I see a brown stout trunk. If I feel pretty inspired, I will tell you I see the phoenix of the plant kingdom with its tall branches reaching out to the magnificent sun for its rays of love and wealth. Now if you tell me to study a person and tell you what I see, I could talk eagerly and most enthusiastically for hours. Believe it or not, there is no such thing as a boring person. People think differently, act differently, and survive differently. Some thrive on social energy and others from a quiet book and personal space, void of any social contact. At the University of Pennsylvania, I hope to study both deceased and living people. I want to major in Medical Anthropology and Global Health in the College of Arts and Science so that I can learn about culture and interaction in the globally interconnected world as a future health professional.
Independence or personal freedom is an aspect that most individuals seek in their lives. Although some individuals may need the help of others in order to gain these features, others are already endowed with autonomous thoughts and reflect it in their behavior. Deci & Ryan (2009) claim that autonomy is one of the basic and universal psychological needs that is necessary for the well-being and flourishing of all people. The development of autonomy comes in different forms for all people. The research discussed throughout this paper will reveal and evaluate how autonomy develops in individuals and whether showing autonomous behavior is positive or negative.
To help promote as much personal and physical independence and choice as possible in the activities of daily living. Apparently according to modern culture, independence means strength. People demand heroines in books and movies who need no man to save them, and cute quotes on social media tell us to believe in ourselves and slay our own dragons. Instead of assuming having friends and community vital for one's well-being, people seem to assume that they have those things only for when they feel lonely or want to have fun. However if one delves deeper into understanding relationships, it may become clear that, as George Bernard Shaw states, “we are all dependent on one another, every soul of us on earth.” While for maturity one needs self-reliance, people still need community and fellowship in order to grow.
At the same time in order for the learning to be effective it needs to engage with the goals of the individual learner in terms of personal development or career development.
Independence could loosely be defined as the state of not relying on others. It is becoming more and more prevalent in modern societies. As a teenager reaches adulthood (in most countries, at the age of 18), he or she faces more responsibilities and more decisions to make on their own. Ideally, the one approaching adulthood comes to possess, through trial and error, the ability to take care of one’s self. In my case, this progress of gaining independence started a bit earlier than usual in relation to the usual customs of my culture. My dad’s philosophy on self-reliance and “manhood” transformed me into an independent teenager which in turn led me to find a more rewarding path studying abroad in the US.
