How To Visit To A Metropolitan Museum

Never before have I seen a museum as grand as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. From its architecture to its massive art collection, The Met has a little bit of everything and one is sure to find something that captures his or her interest. Considering that The Met is the United States' largest art museum, it is easy to get lost within its many corridors and wings. My visit to The Met took place during the last week of July. Despite the almost unbearable heat and humidity that hung in the air, visiting museums under these climate conditions is a welcome respite from a suffocating, yet bright summer afternoon.

One pleasant afternoon, my classmates and I decided to visit the Houston Museum of Fine Arts to begin on our museum assignment in world literature class. According to Houston Museum of Fine Art’s staff, MFAH considers as one of the largest museums in the nation and it contains many variety forms of art with more than several thousand years of unique history. Also, I have never been in a museum in a very long time especially as big as MFAH, and my experience about the museum was unique and pleasant. Although I have observed many great types and forms of art in the museum, there were few that interested me the most.

Interestingly, my first visit to the Museum was almost accidental. When I was a freshman, my mother was taking an art class at the College of Staten Island which required a class trip to the Metropolitan Museum, and my brother and I both agreed to accompany her. My Humanities Art Experience took place at the Columbus, GA Museum, located on Wynnton Road. I really enjoyed my experience at the museum. It was my first time visiting an American museum. I saw many pieces of fine art, some of which I will list below.

It was my first time going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Visiting the Met was a visit forced onto me by the class, nonetheless it was a visit I would eventually take as I had always wanted to go to the Met. I went with a friend that had already visited the museum, but went a couple years ago. I was intent on seeing only three periods, and they were Greek and Roman, Renaissance and Baroque art. With my intent on doing Baroque art, I did not want to spend a lot of time in the other periods, but my friend was eager to see everything. Hence, I ended up seeing more, because there were so much art and so many exhibits. The museum was bigger than I expected and I expected a pretty large space. Since I went on a weekend and it was a tremendously beautiful day, the museum was crowded. I think I spent about two hours at the museum and then was exhausted from all the art I saw. It was a pretty memorable experience.

I could not believe how detailed a person could make a mural like that out of a tree. It was truly amazing. I can not imagine the time and dedication that person put into it. I am sure they are proud of where it is being displayed.

Visiting the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian was a great experience. At first walking into the museum we found there to be many artifacts and examples of the Indians used in their daily lives. Walking around the museum it was nice to see all the items we spoke and read about in class. My first impressions were that the museum would be born but seeing and reading about something is very different and being able to capture the real beauty of Indian lives was a great experience.

Visiting the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian was a terrific experience. Seeing the past visually was amazing because I felt that reading the textbook and listening to lectures from the professor were good, but seeing the artifacts brought everything to life. My first impression being at the Mitchell Museum was how the professor presented the information in class was different from seeing pictures of the Indians. Just reading text or listening to a lecture makes it extremely hard to realize how they described the way they really looked and their appearance. Seeing the exhibit taught me more about the Pueblos and the Plains Indians. Those two groups were in They Made Us Many Promises and this gave me the opportunity to learn more about them.

The exhibit that I viewed at the Philadelphia Museum of Art was one about European Art between the years 1100-1500. This was a series of paintings, sculptures, architecture, and tapestry of the Medieval and Early Renaissance as well as objects from the Middle East. This exhibit was an important part of the history of the Philadelphia Museum of Art because for the first time, Italian, Spanish, and Northern European paintings from the John G. Johnson collection were shown. It gave me a good idea of what the paintings were like in these four centuries and reflected ideas of both the east and the west.

This was my first time at the Reynolda House Museum of American Art. I was very impress of the museum because I never thought it was a big museum, and I assume that they had a few collections of paintings. However, I was amazed on how many painting they did had and the variety. Out of all of the painting and sculptures, I selected three paintings: The Spirit of the Storm, Peaceable Kingdom of the Branch, and Lion in the Arena. These paintings impress me the most because of how they made me feel.

I loved that Mr. Bierly presented all the pieces then for a person who was the first time visited a museum, I felt that was the best and even for others then already had been in one .I am very sure, it was better and more instructive. The Smithsonian is known for its realization and absolute beauty shown in the exhibits. Every exhibit of this museum has great detail and precision. Not only was each exhibit filled with things of its nature, but also had the right colors to make you feel the exhibit. For example, the vibes flowing from the ocean hall were incredible. The way they accomplished the feel of actually being in the ocean was a surreal experience to even see through the screen.
