HIPAA Security Rule The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPAA) is a national act that was signed into law by President Bill Clinton. The Act was meant to establish standards that are to be applied nationally in dealing with the medical records and also other personal health care information by all the stakeholders. The rule calls for proper care in disseminating medical health information and sets minimum requirements that must be adhered to before the documents can be transmitted. It also set the scope of information that can be distributed without prior authorization by the patient. In most cases, the need for modifications arises from the change in the health status of a customer. The insurance companies in most cases are responsible for making the payment. The construction company needs to assess the health condition of the patient through the medical records. This will help them to come up with an ideal design that will fit the clients' needs. The documents are availed either by the insurance company or by the families. In the transition period, the company is required to receive, store and process protected health information (PHI). In such situations, the company is thus required to comply with the HIPAA (American Health Information Management Association, 2004). A point to note is that the rule requires the authorization of the patient for the information to be disseminated through the telephones. Thus, the field agents must seek the patients' consents while transmitting the information from the field offices to the operation centers and as well to the construction sites. Caution should be taken by all the relevant personnel so as to avoid incidences where the information may land in the wrong hands.
