To start off, myths are stories that have been passed throughout many centuries, and are very popular in the world. A myth is a traditional story explaining some natural or social phenomenon usually involving supernatural beings or events. These legends can go from being almost identical to varying so much from each other. Although stories "Bladur" and "The Spirit Bride" seem awfully alike, there are many contrasting things.

When people first hear of the term mythology, he or she normally will associate the word with the Greeks or the Romans because of the well-known myth and specifically the gods and goddesses. For instance, movies like Hercules, Clash of the Titans , 300, and the Percy Jackson and the Olympian are renowned films that people love and since people know these films, they tend to know general information about the background of the Romans and Greek mythology. Furthermore, the planets and days of the week are named after Roman and Greek gods and goddesses. The ancient people worshipped many of these and linked their divine deities with the planets and days and each is named after an individual god or goddesses, except for earth. Moreover, although these civilizations have fascinating myths, it is imperative to note that all cultures have their own unique mythologies. Similarly, the Mayans and Aztecs have their own exceptional take on how the world was created along with the first humans.

Greek mythology, as in past ways humans detailed lives, was used as a way to explain the environment in which everything around us happened and lived. The natural wonders they witnessed and the passing of time through the days, months, and seasons. Myths were also in a way connected to religion and explained where they came from and what are the lives of the gods. Also stated where humanity had come from and what it they should expect after death. It gave almost a rule on the best way to be in a happy life.(History Staff) Myths were used to tell historical events so that people could maintain contact with their ancestors, the wars they fought, and the places they explored. Folk tales are usually told for amusement and people don’t believe in them. Myths are considered sacred and completely true.

Myths influence the beliefs, theories, and the life style of people and their culture. There’s a huge variety of myths around the world belonging to cultures based on how the world started. Australian mythology says the myth of Aborigines believe that during Dreamtime the god Wandjina created the galaxy and earth along with Baiame teaching the humans their morals.

Mythology is a series of stories made by one culture to entertain or to increase the knowledge of their own beliefs to the world. Over the last few centuries, many cultures have created stories to demonstrate their valiant strength or superiority amongst other cultures. Not only that, but, they used these myths to increase faith in their religions. Nevertheless you may find texts confusing because you many think it is about a hero or the importance of religion. On an example, of a myth that has received a large amount of criticism is the mythical story of Beowulf.

The purpose of a myth is to act as a traditional story that explains cultural beliefs and values. Whereas a genre is what classifies these stories and puts them into categories. Over time the concept of myths and culture has been carefully interwoven and tastefully used in stories. People have shaped myths using epic conventions which gives greater meaning to the cultural significance. This allows people to appreciate the cultural motive and theme more-so than they would have if the story would have been told without any epic relativity. Stories such as The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Odyssey, are great examples of how mythic culture is interwoven.

Folktales are comprised of many different forms of myths, such as trickster tales, clan, and creation myth, like in the two short stories The World on the Turtle’s Back by the Iroquois tribe and The Earth on Turtle’s Back by the Onondaga-Northeast Woodlands. Although both of these creation myths are similar, they have subtle differences depending on the tribe that they came from.

All cultures are built off of some type of belief. This belief influences daily life in the culture. It sets common rules and guide lines in which the people should act. The belief also influences activities and architecture. This is true for the Ancient Greek culture. Their culture relied on their Gods. This is also known as Greek Mythology. Greek mythology had a huge influence on the Ancient Greek culture.

Most people are probably familiar with the word myth, and likely use it as a standard term in their conversations. But are they using the word correctly, or is there even a correct usage? The most important sub category is Greek Mythology. It’s more popular because it has been the most widely known form of Folk Lore. The main foundation of Greek Lore is Mythology, because all of the people in greece are religiously bound to this lore, which shapes a lot of their culture. It’s so significant that it has shaped entire cultures around the world. Every culture has been shaped by the oral tradition of Folklore. Storytelling shaped culture by letting an audience know about the history that started their culture they are now living in.
