Gender Differences In The United States

Introduction
Across the world, it has been noticed that women are the minority in society. The United States (US) is a prime example; women in the US are more likely to have low paying jobs, undergo domestic abuse, and encounter sexual harassment in any situation. Men, on the other hand, are the ideal in the US: higher paying jobs and head of household. Women face many obstacles when trying to achieve due to our social norms. These norms accumulate the different characteristics of the genders; furthermore, it is based off what society perceives as accurate for a male or female in many situations.
There is general agreement that there are gender differences in various things. Many studies have been done on gender differences in: conversational style, education, wages at work, body politics, etc. These studies indicate how females are rapport (indirect) talkers and men are reported (direct) talkers when it comes to having a conversation, how women’s education is focused on English, home economics, and reading, how men and women money face a gap in the work setting, and how women are sexualized in any setting placed. These cross studies conclude that women are striving to change the stereotype, but the social norms will continue to compare and contrast, everything there is to a female, …show more content…

In prior studies, leadership roles have been based off one’s sex instead of gender. According to Park, male gender qualities characterized as; aggressive, independent, objective, logical, rational,analytical, decisive, confident, assertive, ambitious, opportunistic and impersonal are distinguished from female gender qualities described as; emotional, sensitive, expressive, cooperative, intuitive, warm, tactful, receptive to ideas, talkative, gentle, empathetic, and submissive (p. 12). These characteristics brings up the notion of how women pursue being leaders because they are opposite of men who dominates the leadership
