Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Role In World War Two

On December 7, 1941, tragety struck America when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. During the aftermath of this horror, America declaired war on Japan thus taking a side in world war two. Presedent Franklin Delano Roosevelt presented a speech the next day to inform the nation of his declaration of war on Japan as well as to inspire Americans in to suport the war. Roosevelt used rhetorical devices including repetition, his perspective, and personification to further his point.

Franklin D. Roosevelt became the thirty-second president of the U.S. in 1933. He was one of the most skillful political leaders and it showed as he led the people out of the Great Depression. The U.S. was in a state of depression when Roosevelt took office, but through his New Deal program, the federal government became much more involved socially and economically in peoples' lives in contrast to its traditionally passive role. The government's responsibilities in peoples' lives changed and individuals' responsibilities changed too. The role of the government in peoples' lives expanded greatly during the New Deal era.

He brought in several new government programs to find a solution to problem that American working people were facing. He tried to save banking industry form collapse. FDR promised Americans the government would help them directly- unlike Hoover. FDR had the complete opposite idea of Herbert Hoover. FDR believed the government should help the people. He called it Prime the Pump. Which helped the people first and then it would help the businesses. In his First Hundred Days he enacted many new programs which gave people direct aid and increase the role, size and power of the Federal government. These programs are called the New Deal. They helped Americans a lot. It got people employed and off the streets and back to normal.

Franklin’s predecessor, Herbert Hoover was the first to lead the American people out of the Great Depression but his policies he enforced at that time led to his downfall because of the inability to end the downward economic spiral. Roosevelt is a liberal with the various acts and government involvement enforced by him, and Hoover a conservative with his “hands off method”.

The United States changed during Franklin Roosevelt's presidency by the creation of a new role for the government in the economy, the nature of presidency changing, and the establishment of the social security act, which is an act that set up a pension system for people who have retired, established unemployment insurance, and created insurance for victims who were involved in work related accidents. This act also provided aid for mothers and children who were in poverty, the blind, and the disabled.
