“The Great Gatsby” is a novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald set in the 1920’s and is a recollection of a man named Nick Carraway's memories of the summer he met Jay Gatsby the person he could not judge. Jay Gatsby changed the most throughout the novel because He started the novel as a rich and extravagant man with a mysterious background, but it was revealed that he didn't start his life this way, James Gatz was a seventeen-year-old fisherman on Lake Superior who had big dreams that he thought he never could make a reality. But he adopted a persona that modelled the ideal person through the eyes of a seventeen-year-old, and met his good companion and friend Mr. Dan Cody. But towards the end of the book the window that is Jay Gatsby is shattered

It deeply saddens me to say we are all gathered here today to remember the life of James Gatz, or better known as Jay Gatsby. When I first moved here to West Egg a few years ago I quickly took notice of Jay and was determined to find out more about him. To my own surprise, Gatsby grew on me and as time progressed our friendship prospered. You see, Gatsby was different from the people of West Egg, he was better and he deserved better than what he got. He also threw the most outstanding parties in history. {chuckles lightly} Day by day, my respect for this extraordinary man grew and grew stronger. Jay had something special about him that many failed to notice and embrace.

I’ve only known Gatsby for a few months, and so I’ll start with my first impression. It was summer, and many people came to enjoy his premises. He held huge parties at his mansion every Saturday.1 They were the most opulent and ostentatious parties, typical of the West Egg. All sorts of people came, from the city or just across the lake, looking to mingle and join the wealthy. They basked in Gatsby’s display of wealth, enjoying the alcohol, the music, and the atmosphere. They enjoyed so much of his parties, yet they never got to meet

In the beginning of this novel everyone seems to know, or at least have heard, about Gatsby. He is talked about a lot and it is manly in a good way. Gatsby appears to be a very powerful person who also has a lot of respect from people. He has a very strange and kind of mysterious personality. For example when he has his party’s, usually on

Gatsby had no home and no money for food, so, he would try to get any job he could find so he had food and somewhere to sleep for the day. Gatsby was also an emotional wreck to a point that it would haunt him in his sleep. After, when the two met, Gatsby’s world changed in front of his eyes, “To young Gatz, resting his oars and looking up at the railed deck, that yacht represented all the beauty and glamour in the world…At any rate Cody asked him a few questions and found that he was quick, and extravagantly ambitious”(Fitzgerald 106). At this moment, a new world flash in Gatsby’s eyes and showed him the world of the rich. After the five years with Dan Cody, Gatsby became a new man with riches and this began his journey of his personal ambition of the American Dream.

Jay Gatsby, the title character of the novel is an incredibly wealthy young man, living in a medieval mansion in West Egg on an imaginary area of Long Island. Gatsby has many laudable traits. For example, he is filled with optimism and the ability to transform his dreams into reality. Jay is also extremely faithful to his true love, Daisy Buchanan, even to the point of death. When we first meet Gatsby, he is the aloof host of the fantastically opulent parties thrown every weekend at his mansion. It appears he is surrounded by wondrous luxury and is courted by beautiful women and the rich and powerful men of the time. Jay is also a very admirable character due to his status of wealth and being a hero of War World I, “In the Argonne Forest I took two machine gun detachments so far forward that there was half a mile gap on either side… I was promoted to be a major, and every Allied government gave me a decoration- even Montenegro”. However, Nick who narrates the book views Gatsby as a flawed man who is dishonest, deceitful, a liar, and a dreamer whom is searching for answers in the past, “he talked a lot about the past, and I gathered that he wanted to recover something, some idea of himself, perhaps, that had gone into loving Daisy… if he could once return to a certain starting place and go over it all slowly, he could find out what that thing was…”

Since he died for taking the wrath of something he did not do. Gatsby is a man who struggled to get what he wants and who much reach a certain status before marrying the woman he is in love with. He was basically an outsider who comes from an uncertain past. Gatsby was able to win the hearts of many of the people around him with his tales of adventures and showing off his wealth. Yet, there is not a view that shows the success of Gatsby. He tries to convince Nick about his upbringings and his heroic exploits. Gatsby’s stories seemed extraordinary to the point where people questioned it but they still believe

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famed novel The Great Gatsby incorporates many dynamic characters and situations into the world of the Roaring Twenties. Given the title, many readers will argue over whether the main character, Jay Gatsby, a mysterious man who throws elaborate parties, was truly great or not. The true definition of great is one who is selfless, pure of any illegal actions, and who doesn’t lie. Gatsby rebelled against all of these characteristics. Gatsby was selfish, committed illegal actions and lied about his overall past. Using these three reasons, one can prove that Jay Gatsby was not as great as some believed him to be.

In the book “The Great Gatsby” there is many things that people say made Gatsby a great or a not so much of a great person. Gatsby was a great man because he became someone with almost everything anybody could and would want but grew up from with nothing, He made all this money from working jobs that were not so great and people envied him for it even though they did not know what he did, and he was just a very mysterious and many people found that very intriguing about him. person For people that didn’t know who he was when he was younger, they all expect him to be old money and get the money from his parents, but as we learn he made his money by working, good or bad jobs he still made money and he was successful and he was proud of it.

In the time that I have grown close to him, I have learned many things, but the most important thing that I have learned is to never give up. Gatsby had recently rekindled his relationship with a former love that he had been pursuing for five years. He had fallen in love with the idea of getting his woman back, and this provided Gatsby with motivation throughout the war and other troubling times. In addition to motivation, this relationship gave him purpose. I observed this once in a casual conversation about him, “Then it had not been merely the stars to which he had aspired on that June night. He came alive to me, delivered suddenly from the womb of his purposeless splendor” (78). Gatsby loved this woman and eventually, his protective and loving nature over her is what got him killed. Anyhow, enough of this, let us now begin to focus on the early stages of Gatsby’s life. He

Okay, so back to the party. I decided to that the faster I talked to Gatsby the better so I went to go find him. I thought the best place to start was out in the garden where I thought he would be conversing with his guests. I walked to the garden avoiding eye contact and feigned conversations with the people around me. As I searched the garden for Gatsby, I quietly listened for all the bits of gossip the partygoers were discussing. Probably the most interesting story was that Gatsby was having an affair with a married woman. The couple believed that the woman was none other than Miss Baker. I knew this rumour wasn’t completely true. Gatsby was indeed having an affair with someone but she wasn’t married and she wasn’t Miss Baker. In fact, you know this person quite well but, I won’t tell you who it is so don’t even think of asking me.

In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby provides the reader with a unique outlook on the life of the newly rich. Gatsby is an enigma and a subject of great curiosity, furthermore, he is content with a lot in life until he strives too hard. His obsession with wealth, his lonely life and his delusion allow the reader to sympathize with him.

Gatsby was able to start from the bottom and work his way up. He represented the American Dream being able to start from nothing to becoming extremely wealthy and successful.

Jay Gatsby, the title character of The Great Gatsby, is really not all that the title might suggest. First of all, his real name is James Gatz. He changed it in an effort to leave behind his old life as a poor boy and create an entirely new identity. He is also a liar and a criminal, having accumulated his wealth and position by dishonest means. But he is still called ‘great,’ and in a sense he is. The topic that is going to be discussed today is was Gatsby really great. I believe the majority of you know or have read the book The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald. This tragic story is set in Roaring Twenties. The narrator Nick Carraway is an American who moves from the West to New York to try his luck as a bond trade. He meets his wealthy and courteous neighbor named Jay Gatsby. Later, Nick gets embroiled in Gatsby’s plan of finding his lost lover named Daisy Buchanan who happens to be Nick’s cousin and Tom Buchanan’s wife. As the story progresses, Gatsby is finally reunited with Daisy and they fall in love again. However, Tom realizes their relationship and he is outraged by the thought that his wife is being unfaithful to him. Tom tries to separate them by announcing that Gatsby is a criminal, he uses dirty and illegal means to obtain his endlessly wealth. It makes Daisy realize the person she truly loves is Tom. When Gatsby and Daisy are driving home from New York, Daisy kills Myrtle who has an affair with Tom by accident while driving Gatsby’s car. Gatsby is frightened, but he is intended to take the blame. Myrtle’s husband George is despondent and tries to find the mutterer. Tom directs him to Gatsby’s house where he kills Gatsby and he then kills
