Brief summary of session content (brief content with focus on themes or patterns or emergent concerns) First, I went over the Recording Consent form with the client. After I gave time for questions, he signed the consent form and we started the session. I started the recording by giving a little information about where I am within my education and what the rest of the semester could look like. I then asked Ryan to share a little bit about himself. Ryan said that he is in his third year at UW-Whitewater. He was raised in Janesville and moved to Whitewater when he started his undergraduate career. After he shared a little about his background, I asked if there was any particular subject he wanted to talk about in our few sessions that we had together. Ryan said he did have events he wished to talk about surrounding his recent break-up. The rest of the session was spent talking about the break-up, how it has impacted his relationship with his ex-girlfriend, and how it has impacted his well-being and day-to-day
A norm is a socially expected behavior that may change based on a person, place, or situation. An agency is a freedom of choice. For my ethnographic research, I have to observe a public place in which people commonly interact with each other. A public place that stood out to me was the Lockwood library third floor. I chose this location because it is not similar to a usual library, it is the complete opposite. Libraries enforce strict rules like no eating and no talking. Lockwood floor three says otherwise. The floor is filled with long tables that can seat around twenty people each. Ironically, there are no bookcases on this floor, just tables everywhere. There is one group study room on this floor which can be reserved by students which is the size of an average classroom.
I have a confession: I used to be racist. It wasn’t intentional or conscious in any way; I didn’t even realize it. I was merely an impressionable little girl, and when my parents made sly comments that implied black people are somehow genetically predispositioned for a life of crime and drug addiction, or that Muslims are misogynists and terrorists, or when they spewed any other number of atrocious stereotypes, I considered it fact. At that point in my life, my parents had supreme authority over me. They fed me, clothed me, sheltered me, and so their word was law. If they said black people were criminals, then surely black people must be criminals. If they said Muslims were terrorists, then surely they all were. My parents were basically gods;
My original topic I chose was intended to be the study of the shopping differences between men and women, with other factors being taken into consideration. I had picked this topic because I know in today’s society, women are pictured as over-emotional and over-spending who can’t control themselves. I wanted to somehow prove this wrong. During my four hours researching, I found that no one was buying anything. I decided to switch my question into something that was more applicable: Are people still buying things at the mall? I would watch as groups of people walk past carrying nothing. If no one was buying, why are malls still being built?
This essay is an ethnographic study of Whole Foods Market which is located in Kensington, London. Whole Foods Market is a niche supermarket that sells high quality organic and natural products at high prices. In this essay, I will provide a brief orientation of ethics with regards to the concepts of Corporate Social Responsibility - macroethics and Business Ethics - microethics and the theoretical frameworks of consequentialism, deontology and virtue ethics. I will be using deontology framework in ethics devised by Immanuel Kant to assess if the marketing strategy and the products sold at Whole Foods Market support their principle of ‘organic and natural’.
The article’s determination is to offer an observation on the efficacy of story mapping. Story mapping can be utilized as a method of improving reading comprehension among middle and high school students specifically with learning disabilities. Throughout, one can read reviews on twelve story mapping interventions. These special education research-based interventions showcased story mapping intervention from the years 1975 to 2015. The results state that story mapping teaching is effective and increases reading comprehension skills. Particularly, secondary level students with learning disabilities.
Malak (2013) used a level 4 survey design study. The population used a case control population of 100 pre-service teachers. This correlation study used a survey which measured attitude, belief and opinions identified by the teachers using a Likert Scale. The overall general attitude of special education student teachers revealed positive toward inclusion education. The Pearson Chi-Square (x2) statistic were used to explore dependent variable revealed in the survey, whether or not the respondents having contact with students with disability affected their attitudes (Malak, 2013). There was a significant difference found between the two groups based on the independent variable close contact. The p value p = 0.035 was less than 0.05 which indicated
According to the Government of Indonesia (2004), Indonesian migrant workers are Indonesian citizens who are eligible to work abroad with an employment contract for a set period of time. In Malaysia, over 250,000 Indonesian women are brought to the country to provide domestic services in the private homes of middle-class Malaysians (Killias, 2014). These migrant domestic workers often take up residence with their employers for a minimum contractually defined period of two years (UN Women, 2013). They perform household tasks delegated by their employers, including cleaning the house, cooking family meals and looking after children, the elderly or sick members of the family. This paper discusses, using the occupational rights approach, factors that impact the psychosocial well-being of these transnational domestic workers as a community and briefly proposes
While others claim that photography captures the inner soul of a person, or deliberately defines it as painting or writing with light, but in my case, it is just simply a newfound love hobby. I undeniably adore and look up to expert photographers I encounter down the road may it face-to-face or the other way around. In my heart, I silently desire that someday, with hard work, determination, and perseverance, I will become professional and famous as they are. Since my husband bought a Digital Single-Lens Reflex (DSLR) as an anniversary gift, my penchant for photography commenced and ignited. Let me detail the essential truths behind my passion over photography.
During my High School career, I’ve become involved in many different hobbies/activities to occupy my time whether it be clubs, sports, or things outside of school. The camera has impacted my life greatly throughout my High School years. This interest isn’t only about taking pictures or making simple videos, it begins to open doors for other sparks and interests in your life.
In the study Visual Following and pattern Discrimination of Face-like Stimuli by Newborn Infants lead by Carolyn C. Goren, researchers studied an infants ability to distinguish and perceive faces or face like structures. Their goal was to discover if the visual system in new born infants is completely scattered or if at the time of birth is organized enough to categorize patterns. Forty newborns who has a normal gestational period, eighteen female and twenty-two male, were tested as promptly after birth as was possible.
Throughout the Ethnographic research Project there have been many themes that have come and the first one that seems significant to this group of people, is communication and the idea of gossip. Throughout the observations, I have seen this at least every time because of the job they have and what they do, it even tends to build up sometimes also. For example, “Logan and Larissa were both working and they started talking about how the manager’s office was very messy at the moment, Larissa agreed with him, then she started commented about how most likely her hours will be cut into half of what they are right now.” However, this seems very insignificant, it is something actually very important because it seemed in this instance the gossip grew
The client have a mother who she is forty three years old and very close with. Her and her mother talk almost every day and help each other out of many financial situation. When she was little she and her mother did not get along because of her mother being stressed out from work and the client’s constant bad behavior in school caused a friction in their relationship. Then she finished of high school, going to college, got herself a car and a stable job now they are very close. She believes that because of her mother working a very difficult job and barely making enough to pay the bills caused the friction in their relationship and it did not help that she was acting up in school either. But now that the client is able to take care of herself and help with the bills that she have an understanding of what her mother went through when she was younger and appreciate her mother of what she have done for her and her siblings.
“Note that further oral description will be printed as the client doesn’t approve of in-session note taking”

Ethnography is an individual’s opportunity to engage in research in order to understand another person through their unique lens. The purpose of this paper is to explore how someone adapts to society due to a diagnosis. By the end of this research, I hope to have gained a sense of the experiences when someone is faced with the unexpected, living a life bounded to a simple label. In order for me to understand the life of someone diagnosed with the learning disability, autism, I want to learn about their daily activities, how they create and maintain relationships, how they manage to care for themselves and how they navigate through a society where they are blatantly rejected.
