Many people don't know about winterguard, some don't know about Colorguard. These sports are both amazing and graceful in their own way, whether it be tossing a double on a rifle or spinning the six foot flag. Many people would be surprised on how different these two sports are. This paper will discuss the differences, and similarities, between these two sports of the arts.
Most people don’t know that Winterguard and Colorguard usually dance to different types of music. Colorguard is known to march to the marching band music which does not have lyrics. This is one of the main differences between Color and winterguard. Winterguard usually dances to live or taped music. Most musical pieces are done by a orchestral music, or edited music from things such as movies. The music is used to set the theme and feeling for both Winter and Colorguard. The type of music also leads to the performance quality of the group, such as movement, and the faces of the performers. The performance and music is a big part of both of these sports.
The performance settings are also

For decades the sport of lacrosse has been played around the world. Originating in North America, lacrosse was played by the Native Americans for a variety of reasons. Known as “The Creators Game”, Lacrosse was used as a substitute for war and in spiritual practices as well. Lacrosse began with simple and elegant sticks, but with the use of technology has being adopted lacrosse now uses pads such as helmets and gloves as well as sticks that are made from metal. Throughout the Native Americans history the game was originally played by men and with the same rules, in the current era this has all changed. Throughout its existence, lacrosse was perceived as a brutal and violent sport that was played by savages, but it actually has a expansive history and meaning.
Look at those frosty flakes in the sky! Well, it's winter! In winter, you can do all kinds of fun family things.Winter is the best season because of all of the fun things you can do.
One of the more beautiful things about nature is that it is constantly changing and hold so many mysteries that we don’t understand. Each day brings new beauties and scenes that weren’t there yesterday. Having grown up on the east coast might have caused me to have a greater appreciation for all of the seasons, but one of my favorite things about season is being able to witness the changing over form one to the next. How each plant knows that the change is coming and they all magically start to prepare themselves for the new setting they’re going to create. The romantics capture the mysteries of nature in some of the most beautiful poetry. They delve deep into the possible meanings of what nature could be attempting to tell us or simple what they find beautiful about what they see in nature. One piece that stuck with me this quarter was The Snow Storm by Ralph Waldo Emerson. Winter has always been one of my favorite season since I was a little girl and have always anxiously awaited that first snow fall, dreaming of a white Christmas that year. Ralph Waldo Emerson’s The Snow Storm brought back nostalgic memories of snow filled days in my childhood and made me appreciate having actually experienced snow in real life and the beauty
In the story“Winter Night,” the author Kay Boyle refers to a time before WWII in Germany. A woman was a sitter to a little girl named Felisha, and ironically, this was the third year anniversary of the last time she saw another little girl in the concentration camp. The sitter would be thousands of miles away in another country sitting with Felisha in New York. She made a connection with this little girl as she had years earlier with another little girl that looked similar at the camp. In the story, we find out the mom’s definition of work was a being a prostitute or woman of ill repute. In my opinion, it makes you wonder if all of the hours away from home was worth the money she was bringing home. However, her husband was away at war, and I suppose this was her way of working to pay the bills.

As world has changed over the last century or so, the ballet world has been changing with it. There are many people who have helped shape that change. The changes in style were mainly influenced by George Balanchine. George Balanchine, a Russian choreographer and ballet dancer, also known as the father of American ballet, was the man who was said to have changed the style of ballet forever. Along with these changes in style came changes in visual design elements, inspirational figures, and changes in what the ballets themselves tend to rely on. Many of the features given to ballet in Russia in the 15th and 16th century still remain to this day, but many features have been altered to fit . Let’s take a closer look at what features truly
The poem Fire and Ice is a poem written by Robert Frost, and published in 1923. This is a nine-line poem:
Once upon a dark and snowy Friday night, a mysterious man named Rabbi Hirsch came out of the dark eeriness of his desolate and abandoned synagogue and asked a boy named Michael Devlin if he could turn on the lights for him. Michael in the book Snow in August by Pete Hamill, at first hesitated, but then he willfully did the task. This started a wonderful friendship between the two Brooklyn residents that brought out the in best each other despite their different backgrounds. However, with the relationship came some physical and emotional turmoil as a result of the Rabbi being Jewish and most of Brooklyn being anti-semitic, meaning that they are hostile towards Jews. This was evident when Frankie McCarthy and his band of best friends named
Murdered. He was murdered. Who? The 5,300 year old human time capsule, whose name is Ötzi. Theories about the death of Otzi are as varied as the ages through which he’s slept . Assassination by an envious, bloodthirsty clan mate seems most plausible. This scenario is likely because of Otzi’s copper axe , the arrowhead which took his life, and a large cave drawing with a shocking story to tell. Ötzi, like all of us, far from invincible, deserves justice.
Another boring assembly was in the making as I walked into my junior high school gymnasium. My best friend at the time, Kelsey, was very excited because the Valencia high school color guard was going to perform one of their routines in an attempt to get people to join the team. She was already on the guard, hence her motivation to attend this assembly. Before this point, I did not know color guard even existed. According to Kelsey, color guard is a performing art in which a team performs a dance routine centered around the use of flags, rifles, and sabers. Both her insistence and the awe-inspiring performance of the guard moved me to join the team my freshman year of high school. Even though we did not win at championships, it was overall
Murder, hunting accident, spiritual ritual, was he killed on the run, or murdered by an acquaintance, all of these are possible results of Ӧtzi the ice man’s death. No one knows the actual reason Ötzi the iceman died, and many intelligent people and people that shirk the responsibility of doing the proper research and background information about the prehistoric mummy and his life. The reason I believe Ӧtzi was killed is based on the well produced, prodigious documentary, made by BBC News. He wasn’t killed on spot, he fought someone and managed to escape the hands of his enemy and in efforts to escape he was shot but stifled the pain and continued on. Forlorned and disgruntled, still stifling the pain, he couldn’t proceed on any longer. That’s when Ötzi took his last breath.
Nothing slows the activity on a homestead down as much as wintertime. The bustle of spring planting and calving, the harvest of summer and fall give way to quieter days of tending livestock, maintaining equipment and feasting on the bounty gleaned from this year’s harvest. However small, or large, the fields, gardens or raised beds on your homestead are, consider allowing a winter cover crop prepare the soil for the next planting season.
“Mon Dieu,” I murmured, glancing at “the sassy, burping cow” that gawked brainlessly from the cover of Home On the Range; its reverse had the words, “Round up the family and get ready for a whole lotta fun with Disney’s hilarious animated comedy Home on the Range,” (Roper). Unfortunately, Disneytends to exaggerate ever so slightly in marketing their products. Competitors— DreamWorks, Blue Sky, and Laika— usually promote film mediocrity under the all-encompassing banner of “the family film.” But animation has changed significantly since Snow White and the Seven Dwarves: Walter Elias Disney, the pioneering, persevering innovator, lowered the floodgates for a burgeoning art, and suddenly, animation created thrillers, adventures, and worlds full
“As history records, Snow White would soon go on to become the most profitable film of all time. When adjusted for inflation, Snow White's gross of more than $1.7bn puts it comfortably ahead of 2013's Frozen.” Snow White was known as a risk for certain Hollywood filmmakers, except Walt Disney and his group. Even Walt Disney’s wife Lillian, thought it would be a flop. Since it was a ninety-minute cartoon referring to a queen murder a princess, seven dwarfs, and prince and princess fantasy love story; however, it was a widespread success in 1937, even till now. What effective potentials Snow White contains that lead to the tremendous
Have you ever been treated unfairly? Have you ever been treated like you have no rights at all? Most people have, but few of them have been treated as badly as Victor and his friends were in “Ice Man” written by Elmore Leonard, just because they are Native Americans.
