English 30-1 Research Paper

English 102 is a college level of reading and writing course based on the theme monster. When I started the class, I thought monsters as scary creature in the books and movies. As I progressed in English 102, I found out monsters is more than what I though t is. Monsters can represent the fear of people and society, a problem in a society, something that is keep coming back and coming back(Such as financial crisis), natural hazard and danger. It also can serve as a warning; so, people avoid the same mistakes.

I am interested in taking Honors English 10 because, I thoroughly enjoy reading in my free time and English is my favorite subject. I have a strong passion for writing and I would like to continue my writing at a more rigorous level. Reading and writing are both very significant to me and I believe Honors English 10 will help me explore both of these interests more in depth. I find it important to be challenged and I would very much enjoy being a part of the Honors English program.

“Just follow the rubric and you will do very well during your high school English experience each,” teacher stated. Teachers handed out a rubric at the beginning of each assignment, which detail every single thing that needed to be included in your paper. As long and you followed all of the instruction stated in the rubric, your paper would qualify you to receive an A. At the time, I thought this method was rather effective. I thought I was a stronger writer as result of being able to follow the instruction from the rubric and always receiving an A on each assignment. When I joined the school, I was very weak in English and my most of my studies were in this language. Moreover, I started to learn it by myself. I learnt to go through the Vocab, sentences and Structures by myself before the starting of the course. I used to go to some tutorials of English to help me with my writing and my speaking. There was always essays, summaries and research papers required to each class. Research papers were the most important things that shaped my writing. They were always required at the end of each semester and they were also required for some projects. I was assigned to make a project and provide a research paper and a poster presentation with its prototype each semester. Writing the poster and the research paper of my first project, was the hardest thing I have ever done in my academic assignments. I was still not good enough in English and I had to write that in academic form, so I did my best to learn about rules and forms of writing. I started to learn about types, structures, grammar and using new phrases. Those were the most important steps of gaining my experience with writing. Another thing that helped me to shape my writing was the required presentations. It is true that I have created some realities for myself regarding English, and not all of them may be too great. When I think of English, I think of many reading assignment and essays. This puts me through a lot of stress, but not because I dislike reading and writing. English has been one of my least favorite subjects for pretty much my entire life. I truly do dread taking English. I feel as though I read at the speed of a turtle’s pace and have a reading comprehension comparable to a gold fish. My writing on the other hand is like a sports car without tires. I’ll have several ideas racing through my mind, but I’m just not quite able to get them out on paper or at least clearly out on paper.

Moodle was very helpful in facilitating this process, especially when we didn’t have time to meet. Growing up writing always came easy to me and I've always been able to think and produce more adequately compared to my peers which always came in handy since English has always been a required subject. Writing will enable me to increase my speaking ability with my coworkers, as well as, others in my community, home, church and other organizations I may join.

I know exactly what I want is to perform English skills as well as my ability of mathematics. When I am facing a complicated subject to write, I then test the limit and try to break it.

Throughout junior year of high school, I always wondered why English was my worst subject. I thought to myself, “How can someone, whose first and only language they speak and know, be so horrible at it?” I could easily find the solution of a composed function in my math class, yet I had a difficult time matching words to their definition when the answer was literally right there. I was in a classroom filled with many peers who were at the top of the class as well as prospects for Ivy League schools, if not recognizable universities. Although I spoke to many of them, I was always nervous when they would read my essays in peer reviews. I felt I was too dumb, especially in English Literature.

English was and has been my weakest subject ever since I was introduced to it in Kindergarten, and until this day. I often understand concepts related to math and science, however, vocabulary, spelling, critical analysis, speaking, and reading are skills I find hard to master. In fact, some ideas seem to go through one ear, and out the other. I never understood English’s importance when I was a kid. I thought that grammar, vocabulary, spelling, etc. were not as important as math or science. I was unaware of how important English was when I was younger, causing me to not care much about reading, writing, or speaking. Now that I have a bit more experience in the real world, I understand that English is essential to lead on a successful life. This is due to the fact that English can help someone mentally, physically, and overtime, financially. Due to my late notice, I fell behind in English, which shows through my reading level, writing, and vocabulary. Despite the tough times and headaches that were forced upon me as an English student, I still remain diligent and put in massive amounts of effort into each assignment.
