I feel the electoral college should be abolished and the President of the United States should be elected by the popular vote. The people of the United States will be able to choose their president based on their own opinions with this amendment. Right now, the President of the United States seems to be elected through a system of designated group of people who cast each state’s official vote for the leader of our country (CNN). This group seems to be made up of five hundred thirty eight people and they come from all the states. If one of the candidates reaches two hundred seventy votes, then become the next president, but if it ends up in a tie, then the House of Representatives elects the president and the Senate elects the vice president. …show more content…

“The Electoral College system further distorts the one-person, one-vote principle of democracy because electoral votes are not distributed according to population. Every state gets one electoral vote for each member of its delegation to the House of Representatives and each state also gets two “bonus” electors representing its two senators” (10 reasons why the Electoral College is a problem).Whether they have a high echelon or low one in this country they should be able to have their votes matter. The popular vote allows parties to not have to campaign in lesser known states. “It distorts the presidential campaign, as alluded to yesterday, by incentivizing the parties to write off the more than 40 states (plus the District of Columbia) that they know they either can’t win or can’t lose. If the popular decided who became President of the United States then they people would feel as if they seem to make a difference. The people would get to have a say in who acts as our next leader. The electoral college favors majority parties while the popular vote favors no specific party in particular (Electoral Vote vs Popular Vote).
